View Full Version : Holiday DLC Idea

Considering the large amount of musicians working at Harmonix, I wonder if they'd consider doing some holiday DLC inhouse either for free or for a very low price?

Some rockin' christmas songs would be cheap to license (since everyone and their brother has covered them at some point, they can't be expensive), you could record them with inhouse staff, they'd be a lot of fun to play over the holidays, a great way to introduce people that otherwise wouldn't be interested to Rock Band (Grandma ain't gonna sing Ride the Lightning but she'd be willing to take a whack at Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree), and a pretty slick PR move.

Christmas songs, the Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel song, Auld Lang Syne...could have a lot of fun with this. Throw in some free downloadable holiday outfits (Santa hats, reindeer antlers, jingle bell belts, etc.). Maybe even a North Pole venue.

Just a thought.

I thought this would be cool too. My wife wouldn't get as annoyed when I play, she loves Christmas music :) She'd probably even play outside of my Rock Band parties then!

I couldn't think of a good way to find songs that would work, but didn't even think of some of the HMX house bands potentially doing it. This would be a great Christmas/Holiday present :)

I second this as well. I thought about it as well:)

Man, I wish Trans-Siberian Orchestra had vocals... That would rock!!!

Maybe for that "other" game though- although Rockband hasnt left my PS3 since I got it.

Shouldn't just be music, either. Give holiday outfits, like a Santa hat!

I like that idea better than seasonal music, which would be out of season 11 months out of the year. ;)

That's why I included it in my original post. ;)

A lot of TSO songs have vocals.

And yes, I think a "Christmas classics" pack would be great.

I have Christmas music on iTunes but I only download it to my iPod when Thanksgiving rolls around, then clear it off in January. Doesn't bother me to have it on my drive for the rest of the year, though.

My only concern would be getting "Rockin around the Christmas tree" in BWT in May. They'd have to have a way to keep DLC from showing up in BWT or something before this would really rock.

But I'd get it, heck ... I'd buy it for a reasonable MSP point.

If I ever have to put up with Snoopy's Christmas in my BWT setlist, people are going to start to get hurt!

Seriously, would you want these to regularly appear in your setlists outside of Christmas?

Uh... A Santa hat would also be out of season 11 months out of the year.

I would like to reiterate my request for a Vagiant performance of Have yourself a merry f*cking Christmas

Oh god...the guitar note chart for Wizards in Winter would be scales until your hands fall off.

And I'd love every minute of it.

I think this is a great idea, and would be a wonderful vehicle for the reuniting of the Guitar Hero legends, Monkey Steals the Peach. Without their fire to light the way, this world has been dark for far too long. What better way to bring peace and joy unto us all than by re-lighting that wonderful, bright burning fire of pure rock?

That's what Star Power's for, indeed.

it would infact be awesome to get some christmas tunes for the season.. i just realized though, if they release it on christmas then it'll pretty much be "past the season" in about a week haha.. they should've released it at the beginning of december so we have all month to get ready for the holidays

Cool.

...except...

I don't know about the 360, but on the PS3, the DLC are not visible as any sort of separate song file. I honestly have no idea where they are on my drive (and I know how to navigate my PS3 pretty darned well), so as far as I can tell, there's no way to delete them.

for the 360 im pretty sure it comes up on the memory so u can delete ur DLC there...also it remembers what u bought so u can re-download it

but like u said PS3 might be different

This has got to be the 20th holiday DLC thread. Can a mod put this in the DLC forum and merge them all together?

I do think it's a good idea, but the threads are everywhere.:o

Well, we can definitely re-download on the PS3. It just doesn't look like we can delete them.

For PS3, I believe it saves it directly to the one game file. So if you wanted to get rid of it, you'd have to delete your game file, but you'd have to re-download everything you've gotten as DLC.

I'm not sure about that, either, because after I got seven of the songs from the first DLC--a total of about 200MB of content--the file of installed assets was still somewhere around 6MB.

I'll have to check if my save game file has expanded, but at last look, I don't remember it being anywhere near that size, either. And come to think of it, deleting my save game file just to clear out some DLC isn't an acceptable option, anyway.

I would download without hesitation any Holiday songs. I don't care if they are not in style the rest of the season, it would be fun.
The best option would also be good ol' Trans-Siberian Orchestra (any song really). I can't think of a more appropriate and fitting group for RB.

Wouldn't mind seeing Carol of the Bells either.

Wizards in Winter - TSO (fantastic guitar work)
Run Run Rudolph - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Jackson 5 (nice bass line and drum beat)
Jingle Bell Rock - various versions could be used

.... there are a ton of good Christmas rock songs that would fit in with the game. I do wonder how you would do BWT though, without deleting the songs though....

I think it would be awesome. They also need to make exclusive items for this year only because of us getting the game so early. I mean still put out more stuff but maybe a santa hat exclusive to us 2007ers. I mean that would be coolieo.
