I'm a little curios if you guys will support people who has an electronic drum set so we can use it as a controller, perhaps through a midi to 360/PS3/Wii converter? Not being able to do it feels like a limitation, concidering a certain other game brand have been able to support this for several years with the Yamaha sets.

Would this be perhaps, Drummania? :P

I first played that while in Michigan at an arcade, and was addicted, I bought the drum pad from play asia (after waiting months for it to be back in stock), and found a stepmania-esqe game to use it, but it's just not the same since the timing is usually off on the fake programs, and I was actually thinking about buying a japanese ps2 and drummania games, then great news came: rockband

Yay!

Third-party drum sets like that probably won't work.

well HMX admitted they considered it. No word since then. It's possible since there's many usb midi interfaces. The trick is getting teh 360 reckonize them and then coding the game to work with them all. Midi is a great way fo getting music intruments to work together but it isn't renowned for it's ease of use. Especially when you're not using a PC as the brain.

Why bump a dead topic?

I was thinking about this just yesterday. There was A LOT of talk about midi support back in april/may, then it just died out. Even with 100's of new users who joined after E3 then PAX I have seen very little mention (maybe even none?).

I would hope that the game will support midi drunk kits. I don't own one, but depending on how addicted I get to drum game play I would seriously consider spending big bucks to get one (not just for RB but to learn some real drumming techniques too)

I bought a Roland electronic drum kit so I can play without disturbing people around me and also to have something that sounds professional (hook it up to headphones or speakers and it sounds great).

I would love to see MIDI drum support for Rock Band. Even if Harmonix doesn't get around to it, I hope some third-party company comes out with an adapter of some sort. It would certainly save me some cash and especially space in my room!

Should be an easy hack. Here's how I'd do it:
MIDI drums to PIC-based (or any other micro) MIDI interpreter. Find the button mappings for the drum, then pop open a controller. Solder the outputs of the MIDI interpreter to the buttons on the controller (in parallel, ideally). Close it back up and you've got a fully functional drumset+RB controller.

Of course, this requires some electronics and coding knowledge. I'm sure somebody will do it eventually. Of course, I don't see the point when you consider that you've mapped 4 colors to 6+ pads, some duplicates, and some in different locations. Be a beast to play, but you'd be famous on the internets ;)

Way to necro on a post whose last reply was almost 3 years ago with a contribution that was completely pointless.... >_<
