View Full Version : WORKING SOLUTION: To "Can't join offline session" error on PS3!!!

I was plagued with this problem for MONTHS, until a fellow member of my GH tour group got in touch with Activision, as this was also an issue with GHWT and GH:M. I notice that there's also a thread (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9807) on these tech support forums that's been going for over a year, with no solution... THAT IS UNTIL NOW!!!!
Various suggestions of "fixes" offered by Harmonix or Sony have resulted in people getting nowhere, and being given the run around. Harmonix would refer you to Sony, Sony would refer you to your ISP. Even those who have put their PS3 in their DMZ, or have "NAT 2" showing up in their PS3, were still having this issue.
I recently lost the ability to play with certain friends, and trying to join an online session would result in an error message saying either the session was "offline" or "no longer available". This was happening in both Rock Band, Guitar Hero: Metallica and Guitar Hero World Tour.
Even if I got another friend to host for us, it would only allow ONE of us to connect to his session, and it was whoever connected to his session first.
Once I opened up these ports (which I couldn't find any reference to in any previous post), I was able to directly connect to my friend in Rock Band and GHWT.
Full credit goes to Ikeusmc in my PS3 Guitar Heroes (http://community.guitarhero.com/tour_groups/633) tour group.
For those who don't know how to open ports on your router, check http://portforward.com/, and it will have full detailed instructions for your router (if it's listed).
Without further adieu, here is the information below.
"OK So if anyone else was having the invite/ "Session is no longer available" crap that has been ****ing me off for some time now I HAVE THE WORKING SOLUTION! I was not able to change my NAT Type 3 down to a 2 OR 1 so I got the right ports from Activision regarding GH:Metallica. IF you open your router and put these in it will allow things to work perfectly. It still will not allow you to have a Type 2 or 1 but it will work none the less.
TCP: 80, 443, 3074, 5223
UDP: 3074, 3478
Now once you plug these into your router you need to save then turn off your router and your PS3. Wait a few minutes and then turn on your router let it fire up then turn on your PS3. I spent a lot of time trying the other junk in different forums NONE worked for me. So when I spoke with Activision they gave me those port numbers (which were different from the forums) and it works great now! All of the other crap and digging through forums a simple email to Activision for the correct port #'s and it took me about 15 minutes for everything. I blew 5 hours messing around for nothing. I hope this helps anyone else with the problem!"

When I power down the router, do I unplug it? How far do I go? Same for the PS3. Is turning it off meaning the switch in the back or just with the red light on?

You actually shouldn't need to power off your ps3 for the changes to take effect...
For some routers you don't need to reset to apply the changes, but it depends on the brand of your router... You shouldn't need to do a reset for the majority of Linksys and Netgear routers...
You don't need to unplug the router although that will do the trick... most routers will have a hard reset button, or reset functionality in the configuration interface.

So has this been working?

Also when I go to my router's directions, the UDP and TCP numbers are different. Do I use the ones they suggest or the above?

Just worked through this and no joy I still can't link to some friends and yet can to others. Of course I am computer illiterate and had never headrd of parts or DMZs until I tried this so could have done it wrong - any further advice?

Jim,
Did you put the numbers he put above or the ones that were in the guide that he linked us too? So far I only tried the numbers in the guide, not the above. The only change I saw was that one of my friends wasn't receiving my messages but he now is. I had one friend that I could never play with but I haven't seen him online.

Also, are the friends that you play with doing the same?

Well I was on the phone with afriend of mine who I can't link to yesterday for about ab hour with him opening the various ports and it wouldn't work even when I was in the DMZ.
What do you play by the way - we coulod see if we can link up?

LOL. Drums. :) But if you'd like add me in case one of us hits guitar. I rarely have time for the other instruments. FYI I added this thread to my sig to bring some awareness to see if this works for others.

I've seen a lot of posts about this issue and several posts giving solutions but I've yet to see a post saying someone used a suggested solution and it worked (bar the one that started this thread). The whole thing is so random - I've linked to many people off these forums and with some it works and some it doesn't. Generally it seems if I link to someone randomly online then add them as a friend I am able to still link to them so it is not the friend status that has an impact there just must be lots of people I can't link to randomly at all. Also sometimes if I try to sub in a band nothing happens so I assume this is the same issue and I am unabke to link to the people it has randomly found. I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been stickied as it seems to be a continuing problem for many people and the solution given does not seem to be effective.

That's because the majority only go to Rock Band section. Hopefully Sony will get their heads out of their you know where, mate.

I'm sorry, I'm really lolfail with this opening ports stuff. I'm at the page and all I see after clicking my router model is a list of games. Help would be appreciated....
And if anyone wants to jam, my PSNID is BloodyEddie and I have like 300+ DLC.

Try Playstation Network or PS3 NAT Type 3 to 2

Try Playstation Network or PS3 NAT Type 3 to 2
I may look a bit dumb here but what does this mean - looks like its something I haven't tried yet. I've worked out what opening ports and putting the PS3 within the DMZ is but not sure what NAT type 3 to 2 means?

Where it asks you which game they have a link to Playstation Network and one to NAT Type 3 to 2. You'll probably use the NAT link when your PS3 uses NAT Type 3 instead of 2. You'll see this in your PS3 internet connection settings. Apparently 2 is preferred. So if you're PS3 is using NAT 2 then try the link that says Playstation Network. Or just enter in the digits that the OP provided above.
