so here's the deal
i want to learn to play the drums, and i'd like my own drum set
im going to go by a long&mcquade in brampton in a little but im having doubts..i dont know what genre i like best!

like i love the drumming in Rush, but i also love the drumming in Zeppelin, Sabbath, Incubus, Foo Fighters, The Who, Rage Against the Machine, and lots of others

i can't narrow it down to one so would this matter in my purchase or in whatever style i want to learn when i take lessons??

or am i just overthinking it..

overthinking.
i got drums around Thanksgiving because of Rock Band. I picked it up pretty easily, although the rate at which drum sticks break is frustratingly annoying.

I have a Pearl Forum 5-piece with a Paiste hi-hat and Paiste crash/ride... total cost was about $650. It's a good kit with the exception of the snare, which has some serious overtone even when tuned. I did have it tuned well at one point, but it won't go back <='[

you are overthinking it.
you can play any style you want, on one drumset, lol.

just buy lots of sticks, and of course the set, and you'll be...um... set!
:D

oh and btw, i'm a drummer for a alternative metal band, and i use a Ludwig (http://www.ludwig-drums.com/drumkits/accent.php), and Zildjian crashes/hi-hat.

Buy what ever drum set you are comfortble behind. You can adapt what ever style you want to play to pretty much any set.

im just most worried because i dont know if i were to take lessons, they'd ask what type of drumming i wanna learn..if there's a difference..i mean obviously theres a difference between blues beats and megadeth

well i've never taken drum lessons, but i doubt that they will ask you that,
they will most likely teach you common drumming basics.

This.

Your drumming style will come from the bands you listen to and your influences.

Whenever I play drums, playing beats on a hi-hat and snare with bass pedal, I often do the same beats. I need to tell myself to switch it up. Lol.

lol, i used to do that too. just try learning songs from your favorite bands, by ear, and from there form your own drumming style. :D

i actually recorded me playing drums, and it's on my computer, but I just woke up, I look hideous-er than usual, and the camera moved a LOT. Not sure why. Must have been playing too hard.

I might upload it, though. I impressed myself. In fact, lemme watch it NAO!
