My family plans on getting me rock band for Christmas, which is cool, except the warranty. I've been wondering, if they buy this, say today, would the warranty start when I open the box or when the box is bought? I'd hate to only have a 10 day warranty to literally "break" my flawed peripherals.

Yeah, unfortunately, you're just going to have to get your family to give it to you now, so you can start playtesting those instruments. Now get rocking!

I don't think I was even asked when I got the game. They don't really seem to be keeping to that 60 day thing all that strictly. (Nor should they, since there's obvious problems that were released.)

You should be fine.

I told them and they said they'd just cancel the payment on the credit card. Would that be enough?

Today's December 4th, and you have (at the very least) a 60 day warranty. It wouldn't expire until February. I say at least because it seems like they're unofficially extending it to get people working instruments.

I'm also getting it for Christmas, but I plan on sending in for the replacements anyway, just to get the most reliable stuff. The person getting it for me appears to have gotten it from Amazon, and it probably has the initial crappy batch of stuff. We'll see, but either way, there'll be enough time.

In general, retailers are pretty good about understanding about gifts around the holidays with the warranty starting when something is gifted. Just don't open it and register it early and you should be fine.

I also have to believe that the 60 day warranty on these parts are out the window for now. I am sure they have no interest in creating a bigger PR problem than they have with the current problems.

This is correct...MOST trustworthy retailers understand that most products around this time have a lax policy on at least returns and exchanges. I just happen to work for the biggest online e-tailer and I know that our return/replacement policy is very lax in the month of January. Provided that there's a receipt of some sort for proof of purchase from our company.

I'm not sure about the manufacturer warranty...so I'd even try to contact the mnfr regarding this issue, otherwise, it's just speculation on our part.

Not that I know anything or would wish to put words in anyone's mouth... but the warranty program seems like it's going out of it's way to take care of its customers. Even going so far as to offer freebies for the inconvenience.

I think the last thing that they'd want to do would be undermining their reputation by acting ticky-tacky on a warranty issue.

In short, if I personally was giving RB as a gift, I'd still have a measure of confidence.
