If I read that correctly, it just mentions that they're unveiling the single on Rock Band which has already been mentioned.

“There are a couple of things we’ve committed to, one of them with Metallica for example. They’ve reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game.”

Do you know for sure that the new Metallica stuff uses that damned "empty drum" sounding snare? I'm not a Metallica fan anymore, but there were a number of tracks that I felt like could have grown on me if I didn't absolutely hate the sound he made with his snare.

We want an OLD album, not their new crap.. Their new music sounds horrible... and if they are on the same line as their last 5 or 6 albums it is going to suck real bad...

Bull ****... "Not the end" has some awesome riffage

Plus we all can't possibly know any more than 2 of the songs off the new album so how can you really judge it like that yet?

I'm not sure, so I guess I'm still just so disapointed from St. Anger. Even if Load/Reload weren't my fav CD's I could still listen through them but I tried listening to Anger a few times trying to make myself finish it but just couldn't. So I guess I'm with you on the drum sound, maybe the new producer can convince him to burn that drum?

I'm sure they'd fix that for the album.

He should go back to his voice coach and ask for a refund.

I still believe that his singing, prior to voice lessons, contributed to a lot of the feeling in their earlier material. Their later material sounds a lot cleaner, either due to voice lessons or even a better recording studio or what not.

Sort of like the argument between the vinyl EP and a CD, or solid-state amps and their vacuum tube counterparts. Either the cleaner sound makes them sound worse, or the direction of their music style changed.

LOL still hard to believe that the screeching kid singing in Whiplash, and the guy singing in this clip are the same guy.

That is the new stuff

Ill remind you all that that is a LIVE recording and not studio

They will fancy up his voice with machines / make him sing it 50,000 times till he gets it right for the CD

What can't it be Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets or the Black album. Metallica's new stuff is audio vomit. Drat!

Screw that. Promoting crap music in lieu of classic tracks makes me sad. We need some more classic Metallica tracks.

That's a live recording. James always sounded off in live performances, most singers do.

But I agree, I'd prefer the older stuff. Really, Metallica shouldn't even bother making new stuff, just keep touring playing their old stuff (Reload and prior) and they'd keep a big fan base.

Let me let you all know that the song in the youtube video in the first page called "The New Song" and "The other New song" are NOT going to be in the album at all.... As ive stated before they are playing in the old style of regular tuning as opposed of st angers crappy d tune.... Rick rubin strictly stated that he wants a Master of Puppets two... he is no Bob rock to be delivering bull****

I read in an interview that their new album is supposed to be more like Master of Puppets as far as how the songs are structured. This sounds more like St. Anger style riffs in the style of Reload. So far I'm not really digging this song. I find the title ironic. This just may be "the end" for them. After St. Anger I said I'll give them one more chance. The interview I read sounded promising. This however does not.

sorry, my vote is for MOP or black, with "one" still hopefully on the way......
black album was pretty mainstream and would make ALOT of people happy, and it was an amazing album from all angles. I just personally like master of puppet's sound and speed.

as long as the new content isn't taking the place of some older material, bring it.
(i'd just have to DL the album to get a feel for the new material B4 pumping out more $$$ for DLC w/o previews of some kind)

We're definitely in the same boat.

I was a die hard Metallica fan until Load. My first ever concert was Metallica at the Hampton Coliseum, April 91 and I saw them 8 times since (ending with their Reload tour). I didn't even mind the beginning of the commercialization with the Black Album, but I always considered MOP to be the pinnacle of Metallica's career and AJFA only slightly lower than MOP.

Load and Reload did absolutely nothing for me.
Garage, Inc I liked because I had the 5.98 EP on Vinyl, but the newer covers were meh.

Then S&M came along and some of my faith was restored... until they DESTROYED it by releasing the utter piece of crap known as St. Anger. Seriously, did they record the same sections and then just loop them? Because it sure sounds like it. The drums and lyrics were a major ear-sore.

I'm really hoping this next album gets back to pre-Black Album roots, but only time will tell I suppose.

I was hoping for Kill 'em All, but I figured Master of Puppets would be the DLC album. I never thought it would be this new album.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I was a die hard fan as well. I even liked some songs from Load and Reload and realized that their setlist needed some slower songs. They are getting older and when they play live they need a few songs that will give Lars a rest on the drums lol. I try to forget St. Anger exists. At least they still play their old stuff on tour.

I doubt they were talking about the new album when they mentioned a full Metallica album as DLC. I love Master of Puppets and will be thrilled if that is what it is. Although, I think the Black album would be more fun to play on Rock Band. The drumming is fun, yet doesn't involve any double bass that I can think of. Many songs on Master of Puppets would be a nightmare on the drums lol. Then entire album would fall under impossible songs with the exception of maybe Orion. I'd also enjoy the vocals more on the Black album. It just seems that the Black album would be more fun for every instrument. I would love playing My Friend of Misery with a full band.

they are passed that St.Anger sounding bull**** rick rubin, metallicas new producer... wants it in regular tuning.. not D tune.

only one song on St anger was in Dropped D tuning (Purify), the rest were in Dropped C except for invisible kid, which was Dropped G (Baritone). lets also not forget The Thing That Should Not Be and Sad But True (2 awesome songs) are in D standard.

I dunno what that one dude is *****ing about Drop D for...90% of most metal is in that tuning...so that argument is just stupid.

I still don't understand why people hate Load and Reload. I thought they were great, but I like all the old stuff too. I am with ya'll on St. Anger though. I half way liked it but it's not something I am going to listen to over and over.

Personally, I don't care what tuning they use as long as the songs are great. I like to play in standard tuning a half step down, but that is just my preference. Some things are just easier to play in different tunings so what does it matter if it sounds great.

This was taken from an interview with Lars:

Are the songs punchier, four or five minutes long? "Well, the most of the intros are four to five minutes," he says. "I don't know — Metallica and short songs just don't go that well together. But whereas 'St. Anger' was an exercise in over-pummelling the listener, these new songs echo some of our stuff from the '80s — long, epic journeys through different musical landscapes, heavier, but a lot more melodic."

I think this is a good time to put this new 'tallica single for a buck like they were talking about doing in the future.

Think about it. This is something new. Never heard. This is basically promotion. Give it for cheap. We buy it, we're like "d00d, this is awesomz0r!!" and then we buy the album.

This probably won't be used for Metallica, because how huge they are. But other bands, putting out new albums and wanting one of their new songs for DLC, should get the 1 dollar treatment.
