Ive been wanting to get a game that my wife can play (wants to play). Since I already have a guitar from Guitar Hero 3, I figure I can get Rock Band and buy a USB mic. My wife doesnt want me to spend the extra money anyway on the bundle. Does anyone know if the Rock Band microphone that comes with the set has anything special about it? I read that if you hit the mic on certain songs, it acts as a cowbell. Do you need a special mic for this? I was thinking about getting this one

ALSO, I know this game is a "party game", but do you think it worth getting just for (2) people to play?

You and your wife can just do drums and guitar constantly and if you guys get tired of your instrument just swap with each other

If you want to sing that of course works too but to be honest you cant do the singing too well unless you actually know how the song goes and know the lyrics

Edit : You can use any USB microphone

If your getting it for PS3 get the bundle because your guitar hero controller won't work

I highly reccomend the bundle... the drums is a great addition to the game

I am not getting the bundle, just using the GH3 guitar and buying a mic.

YES. Me and my wife are doing BWT atm and its great. Main profile (leader) is vocals since we both love singing in the game and that way the second profile can play the other instruments.

Sorry I didn't read your post at 1st I just read the title

But you better be using Xbox 360 because the PS3 Guitar hero controller doesn't work :(

The microphone has nothing special about it. To do th tambourine or cowbell, you just have to make a noise. Breathing can set it off too.

RB is a great game for a couple. I assume it's even better with a full band, but being as there are no standalone guitars available for PS3 I really wouldn't know. My wife and I play RB pretty much every day with her on guitar and myself on drums, and we are even cracking the top 1k bands (well real close and rising everyday).

You can use any USB microphone. However, of note, that microphone you linked looks exactly like the Rock Band microphone, just white instead of black and without the Rock Band branding.

I bought the game thinking it would be great fun for a guy that always wanted to learn how to play the drums (me) and would be fun when my wife's kids come into town for the holidays. I also have a musician brother that I would play with occasionally as well. Given that, my wife and I play daily and I can honestly say she is more 'addicted' to the game than I am. She thought it would be 'silly' and wasn't sure about it until she tried it. Now she's hooked, loves the drums, and considers it my smartest purchase for the PS3 to date. Who knew...

Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I can alway buy the drums later. The game by itself is easier to find, plus my wife really doesnt want the drums (bulky).

Someone mentioned being ranked. Does matter if you are playing with 2 people or 4 people? How do you get scored on drums if you are not playing the drums?

I don't know how rankings will work exactly, but the computer/AI will pick up any instrument parts not picked up by live band members. This allows you to accomodate anything from solo play up to 4 players. One of the 'featured' modes, Band World Tour does require 2 people at a minimum though.

Sounds like the standalone game and that USB mic would suit your needs. Be advised though that for the PS3 version of the game, the GH3 guitar is currently not compatible. It would work just find for the Xbox version though.

What system are you using - xbox or ps3? I might give you a sweet deal on a PS3 game (unopened) and mic by splitting a package I can get here locally. I'm interested in an extra guitar and drum kit so it would work out perfectly for both of us. PM me if interested.

Nevermind - just caught that you had an Xbox mic link in your example. That obviously doesn't work - and makes sense given you said you had the guitar. Anyway, good luck with it. I'm sure you and your significant other will enjoy it!

My wife and I rock out on BWT. Sometimes her little brother comes over and rocks with
us. RB is pretty much the only game she plays with me on the 360. :D

I was thinking of just getting the game as well... But now I know I need to get the whole bundle..
If you buy this in parts, it is going to cost you a lot more then just getting the bundle.
My girl loves the drums!! She played 12 hours straight the other day...

But if I decide on getting the drums, it would probaby come out cheaper or about the same.

$59.99 game, $30 mic, $50ish for the drums later?

Yeah, agree with others here. My wife and I are doing a BWT right now and having a lot of fun. I am playing guitar and she is playing bass. Good times.
