Ren had about the worst luck you can get with this system. A supercell formed ahead of the line and just fed off of the moist air that the line hadn't gobbled up yet. Basically, this one storm was able to soak up all the fuel that would have kept the line going instead, but focused all into this single cell. The tornado was likely EF4 judging from the damage, which is unheard of in Tennessee. This is the kind of storm that you usually don't see anywhere but in Oklahoma.

When hurricane Charley was around in Orlando (one of the first of many a few years back), we lost power for about two weeks, because the roads were all blocked off with branches and debris. Some kids were coming to school and they didn't have power yet, once schools were reopened

Actually Hiro, you need to be on the lookout. You're under a Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch, which means strong tornadoes aren't just possible, they're likely with any storms that move through tonight.

Don't use my weather thread, there's so many warnings right now I gave up tracking them all. Keep a TV or radio on, make sure you know where you are on a map and which counties are directly east of you, hunker down at home and wait for the storms to pass.

Geez , I take Good Friday off to chill at home with the kids and a damn storm had to go and interrupt my viewing of the Pokemon Movie on Cartoon Network !

Last you heard from me in the WAYDRN , I was getting mad that my car was getting pelted with hail. After my last post I went outside to try and figure out a way to squeeze it into my mess of a garage . . . when I got outside , I looked up and saw this thing was forming right over my house !

. . . so yeah , I went back inside.
(I went to post about it but the power died mid-post! lol)

We found out later in the afternoon that it touched down within a minute of our house and took out many houses and trees.

We haven't had power all day , and it just came back on in the last 30 minutes. Cell phones also didn't work because emergency workers were using the lines , so it was probably a lot more scary for friends and family (and the RockBand forums) who couldn't get ahold of us.

We were fine most of the day , and it only really got rough in the last hour when all the DS's and I-pod's in the house ran out of juice. :p

(it was total chaos fighting over the last DS)

But really , thanks for caring , and for all your well wishes for a bland guy like me and my family.

So what'd I miss today ? :p

ps - I love you too bmaninc :D

Did you get any close calls? There was a good hour or two last night where Atlanta was just surrounded by tornadic storms.

Was under a Tornado warning for a little while, and under a sever thunderstorm warning for a long time. The wind was so strong, the rain could be hear really loudly through the brick wall, just pelting up against it.

Not much damage at all, though, luckily.

Glad to hear it. Those were some nasty storms. I got winged by one of the weak ones and still got caught in some hail. Made for a funny video though, since I was standing outside taking pictures of the storm that I thought had missed me when the hail started. I switched to video about 10 seconds before the hail got bigger. Penny sized hail kind of stings, you know?

hawkofva

Sorry to bump a dead thread, but the prelim results from the damage survey are in. The tornado was about 1/2 mile wide and a strong EF3, maybe an EF4 when it crossed the Interstate going through the town.

2 people were killed, and 42 injured by this one twister. It was on the ground sporadically for about 35 minutes, and left a damage path over 20 miles long. 15 homes were completely destroyed, and several dozen sustained significant damage.

The real miracle here is that the numbers are as low as they are. Had the tornado's path been shifted just a half-mile to the right, it would've struck the center of the city and more than four times as many people would've been in it's path.

Damage Path (http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs022.snc1/3072_76325686668_580176668_2155319_562999_n.jpg)
