I'm pretty sure most people here should like at least one musical and the soundtrack and story that goes along with it. I absolutely love, Wicked, Sweeney Todd, and Man of the Mancha. Defying gavity, Epiphany, and to dram the impossible dream are all epic tracks. what do you guys think? What are your favorites?

I was more or less raised on musical theater, so I've got kind of a lot to list. For the work of Stephen Sondheim, there's "Into the Woods", "Assasins", "A Little Night Music", "Company", and, of course, "Sweeney Todd" (the original broadway cast, not the film soundtrack). Then, there's William Finn's "In Trousers", "A New Brain", and "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", and the Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill collaborations, specifically "The Threepenny Opera" and "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny". I also really like the original off-broadway cast recordings of "Hair" and [Title of Show], a more recent musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical.

edit: OH! and "1776"

I'm not much or a Musical guy, but I love the Music Man. I played the Bass singer in the Barbershop quartet in the high school play.

Then go and watch a good musical.

And I forgot to mention, I saw Wicked twice. Once at the El Capitan in LA and another time on Broadway.

Anything by Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter, John Barry or John Williams.

Also Trevor Jones' and Randy Edelman's score for Last Of The Mohicans.

Les Miserables is probably my favourite musical. Do you hear the people sing?

Grease, Rocky Horror, Hedwig - those are probably the ones I genuinely like and listen to with some regularity. Cry Baby. The Hairspray musical was not bad, John Waters should make all his early work into musicals.

The Parker/Stone stuff is all pretty funny, South Park, Cannibal the Musical, Team America (not truly a musical).

I was in children's theater as a little one, never had a real part but I did Wizard of Oz, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Music Man so some of those songs grab me.

Not sure if it was real but the Silence the Lambs musical was a riot.

Sure I left some stuff out.

Cabaret!!! Especially with Liza as Sally, but I liked the revival, as well. I saw it with Leah Thompson and Natasha Richardson, years ago, both were fabulous (Natasha, I feel, stole the role from Liza, she was so good. If she were a better singer, she would have redefined the role). I also love Chess and Mamma Mia, but I also love Abba, so that's understandable. Chicago has a great soundtrack as well, I have some tracks with Bebe Neuworth as Velma that are just amazing. Of course, you have to love Hair, it's sorta the law if you're a hippy into musical theatre. You can say that about Jesus Christ Superstar, too, but I draw the line at Joseph and the Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat. I normally don't get into anything that's *too* broadway (or west end). Unfortunately, most recent musicals have been rubbish. A month or so ago, I really got into the soundtrack for Repo:the Genetic Opera, which isn't as good as you wish it were but has a couple of very catchy tunes. And, like a good geek, I can randomly burst out into any part of "Once more with feeling", the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical (I think this post's mostly filler).

The above is quite possibly one of the ****** posts I have ever made. :)

EDIT: I forgot Hedwig and Crybaby. Great tunes! And the censored word is g@yest. I believe that the censors should look at context, and if they find the word Fabulous in the text, they should let it pass.

I've heard good things about it from my mom, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet.
