Iron Maiden - First Five Albums Are Amazing, Priest got off to a slow start but, they still are amazing, just not as good as Maiden

Maiden for me. I, personally, prefer Priest's early stuff (especially Stained Class) over their '80s material. Maiden, however, has been very consistent and has been churning out awesome material for 30 years straight.

Straight Up, Hell Bent For Leather is amazing though

Maiden. Priest is probably more accomplished as a band, but I simply like Maiden more.
Also, how do you have a "Band X or Band Y" poll and allow for multiple options to be chosen?

this is something ive thought over alot before, and looking at it all, I simply cant decide, I voted for both.

Maiden for me, I like most of their stuff. As for Priest, I really know only the stuff in RB, and one other song (Heading Out to the Highway).

I like them equally. The have had some stinkers here and there (i.e. Turbo, Virtual XI), but they have generally good careers.

I'd say Maiden is more accomplished than Priest
Iron Maiden Killers Number Of The Beast Piece Of Mind Powerslave Caught Somewhere In Time Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Out of these there really isn't too weak of a release, even though some just overshadow others

I would have to say Iron Maiden. Well, since you can vote for both bands in this poll, you should only be able to vote for one or the other since the point was Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.

I messed up the poll a little, but maybe its good, its hard to decide, so vote for both if u can't decide, its not just about the poll, I wanna hear what you guys have to say

Kinda hard choice, but I chose Maiden because I think Maiden has more good songs than Priest, I think that Painkiller is an amazing album but Iron Maiden has a more balanced career.

Iron Maiden easily takes the cake due to Iron Maiden-Seventh Son of a Seventh Son days. But Judas Priest's Painkiller album owns all the 90's Maiden albums combined.

Pfft. "Sign of the Cross" alone beats all of Priest's albums put together.
(I'm just saying that for the sake of arguing with you and defending Maiden haha)

You people need to seriously check out JP's '70s output, it's spectacularly good.
Having said that, null vote. 2 of my favorite bands.

i posted this same poll a few months back, but its a good battle to revisit nonetheless. these are two of my favorite bands, but i have to give the edge to priest. british steel, screaming for vengeance, defenders of the faith, and painkiller are all essential metal albums, and thats not counting their 70s output which is good as well (unleashed in the east is a great live album that basically reads like a greatest hits of their 70s material). thats not to discredit maiden, who has plenty of classic albums under their belt as well, number of the beast, powerslave, seventh son, etc. close call in any case, but priest wins for me.

Yeah......Though I have gone of rants about Iron Maiden, they do have like ten good tunes.
I just dig the Priest a lot more.

In terms of consistency Iron Maiden wins for sure fear of the dark is about half good songs half bad songs and the Blaze albums are a little lacking but aside from that they have 11 great albums. I thought that Point of entry, Turbo, Ram it Down, and the ripper stuff were all very weak and Screaming for Vengeance and British Steel had a lot of filler.
Putting that aside everything up until Hell Bent for Leather was extremely creative an interesting. The high points of SfV and British Steel were great and Defenders of the Faith and Painkiller were more or less flawless. Angel of Retribution and Nostradamus are good but not quite there if you ask me, Nostradamus also has a lot of songs that feel forced for the sake of making a big concept album.
Iron Maiden's first two albums are absolutely in a league of their own, they are the most energetic things I've ever heard and every single song on them are extremely compelling- the live versions are even better. Number of the Beast through Seventh Son give up the raw energy of the past albums to an extent for a more epic and grand feeling and more or less had five more albums with a small handful of tracks that could be considered anything less than great. The 90s albums were a bit of a slump and fear of the dark had some genuinely bad songs the other 3 albums were okay but lacking. The three most recent albums lost a bit of the excitement but are very well thought out complexed songs, I wouldn't put them up with the old albums but they are still great.
Overall I'd say Maiden has a much stronger set of songs but priest in the beginning at least had songs that were extremely creative and unexpected which Maiden never really risked in that way. In addition I think priest generally had more interesting live sets where as Maiden although putting on a great show generally only plays their hits with a few unexpected songs.

Changes come over her body...
No matter how awesome Maiden is, Victim of Changes is just so much more epic then their entire discography.

This poll gets done every couple of weeks, it seems like.
Anyways, Priest hands down. Maiden is a joke.

I've heard a few albums from Priest, and the first 5 from Maiden. I prefer Maiden, though I love both.
I plan to listen to "Somewhere in Time" tonight. The version I have doesn't go very loud, unfortunately :(

I'm curious about what you thought of it. It's one of my favorite Maiden albums. However, it took me a very long time to really get into. I used to think "Alexander the Great" was one of their weakest songs but that's changed a lot since I first heard it.

I find the lyrics in Maiden far superior to that of Judas Priest.
