I find sometimes overdrive just.. well .. happens - no tipping the guitar no nothing.

Maybe I am being stupid here, but does it go off automatically when you reach the top of your energy bar and get a new bunch of energy, or is there something wrong with my controller?

Your controller is overly sensitive. Overdrive never activates automatically.

aha - ty..

maybe it's my slouchy couch position that sets it off... truth be told, I am quite pleased with it - it can be irritating doing the whole tipping up thing when you are laying on back and going with the flow.

i bet that is it since it is based on a motion sensor if its not, at the set position it might not respond correctly

Do you rest any of your fingers on the select button?

I used to wonder why I was having random overdrives, turns out the select button is really sensitive.

I recall reading that what ever position you turn the guitar on at is automatically set to the 'neutral' position. So if your guitar is tilted upward or downward when you turn it on the tilt sensor will automatically go off. Try turning it off and back on while you have it in your normal playing position and see if that helps.

That's actually a good theory. Does that also apply to the Les Pauls?

I got a replacement for this same reason and with the new one arriving today, still the same problem. It's definitely not set based on a "starting" position and the way it's designed is crap. You can hear the ball bearings move and that sets off the overdrive.
My guitar must be pointed about 10 degrees toward the floor for the "normal" position, and you can hear the bearings move at about 10 degrees up. The position of the sensor is basically parallel with the guitar neck. so unless you're playing with the neck slightly down overdrive goes off by itself. Or if it doesn't I have to point it down before coming back up to get it to go. If they positioned it so that it went off at 45 degrees there would not be a problem with the slouching either, unless you have it turned so the face is rotated back past a flat position. I could draw some sweet MS Paint diagrams showing how gravity affects ball bearings, though I won't but maybe that's what harmonix needs to get this straightened out. This is the only guitar I've played with that has done this, from the original GH1,2 and some 3rd party ones.

There is an easy fix:

If you play with your left hand higher (even a little) than your right this will happen. You have to play with the guitar neck more parallel to the ground to avoid this.

It should be set up so that you can play with the neck angled slightly up. No one plays guitar with the neck parallel to the ground it's just not comfortable.
