All three of these genres are sorely missing from Rock Band, which doesn't make much sense, in my opinion - why can we create characters with the Goth style, but have not a single song in the soundtrack to go along with said character's vibe? Here is a list of my suggestions to rectify this problem.
Lene Lovich: "New Toy" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7VgDSNxlGU (This would be great for a keytar part a la Freezepop.) | "Lucky Number" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nu2QX3GU-U&feature=related
The Cure: "Fascination Street" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_nSETaWNzY
The Rezillos: "Top of the Pops" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQqpqnc9Ac4
Adam and the Ants: "Stand and Deliver" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPgHbt0ODr4 (I'd really prefer "You're so Physical", but I couldn't find a good video for that song.)
Sisters of Mercy: "This Corrosion" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boinZ5BIlkw | "Lucretia, my Reflection" -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuezNswtRfo&feature=related
The Smiths: "Bigmouth Strikes Again" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpOpcsCXzCw
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult: "Sex on Wheelz" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJOsSNlUbYk (A blast playing the bass and singing to this one.)
XTC: "Making Plans for Nigel" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C6bVckO_CM
Echo and the Bunnymen: "Lips Like Sugar" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV3IsQlZsiM
Depeche Mode: "New Life" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKs-GUcKMDo (Another really great keytar song, with both lead and rhythm lines.)
The Waitresses: "I Know What Boys Like" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCEVLaqoC7E
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts: "Crimson and Clover" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdhonK8NMm8
The B-52s: "Private Idaho" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFyBH-z6c1w
Pixies: "Debaser" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mCoOlUjhlc
Faster Pussycat: "You're so Vain" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP-1G0iha_s (Yeah, it isn't New Wave, post-punk, or goth, but damn....I really like this cover of the Carly Simon original.)
Green Jello: "Three Little Pigs" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm9W4Ts-tw0 (Again, needed to toss this one in, because of it's hilarity. Vocals + primitive guitar noodling = amazing.)
Bauhaus: "Bela Lugosi's Dead" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq2RXSboWMs | "Telegram Sam" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JUeAQ_urW4&feature=related

Dude, you're right on the money there!
List of songs for Rock Band that I'd like to see from these genres.
Elvis Costello - Watching the Detectives" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxfWuneXWhY&feature=related), "(I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjYTgwDizbk), "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love, and Understanding" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJkOyc_phy4&feature=related)
Joe Jackson - "Is She Really Going out with Him (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RWyFX3UO_E)
Graham Parker - Local Girls, White Honey
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (Yes, they were New Wave) - "Refugee" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-8qyoVssNQ), Rockin' Around With You... Actually anything by Tom Petty would be cool, recent or old.
Bauhaus - "She's in Parties" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VyWNDxQQxM)
Tuxedomoon - "No Tears" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5BZOF8t80k&feature=related)
I Should just stop now, I Could write a book on the New Wave/Post-Punk/Goth songs I'd love to see in Rock Band...

Nice suggestions! Elvis Costello and Graham Parker are quintessential 80s. I'd love to sing "Local Girls", or play the drums to "Chelsea". For Joe Jackson, I wouldn't mind seeing "Got the Time", either - although the whole Look Sharp! album deserves to be added in it's entirety. And I have a feeling we are going to get some Tom Petty added into the game, sooner or later. A lot of people have been requesting songs like "Runnin' Down a Dream" for quite some time now on the boards.
I've never heard of Tuxedomoon before, but I watched the video and think that song would be perfect for RB.

Some good stuff on there, particularly in regards to suggesting the Sisters, Cure, and the Smiths. Oh, and for suggesting Debaser, I have to give you thumbs up.
I agree with suggesting the B52s, but I'd choose Rock Lobster for the song instead, both because it would be fun, and because it's deceptively difficult.

Thanks, Patrick and HP! I considered placing Rock Lobster on my list, but I tried to go for less obvious choices - everyone knows Rock Lobster, which is great, but I think RB is an excellent venue for introducing people to music they wouldn't normally listen to, hence the selection of Private Idaho. In all seriousness, though, I'd be very happy if they put anything by B-52s (or anything on my list for that matter) as DLC.

Off the top of my head:
Joy Division - Transmission
The Cure - A Forest
XTC - Senses Working Overtime
Echo & The Bunnymen - The Cutter
Bauhaus - Third Uncle
The Undertones - Teenage Kicks
Gary Numan - Cars
Pop Will Eat Itself - Can U Dig It? (a bit of a stretch)
New Order - Temptation
Siouxsie & The Banshees - Israel

There isn't a single bad song on this list. But yes, "Cars" and most songs by PWEI (as awesome as they were) wouldn't really fit into RB. If they wanted to put a song by Gary Numan in, I'd say "Are 'Friends' Electric?" would be the best choice. Otherwise, I'd even settle for the Foo Fighters surprisingly decent cover of Numan's "Down in the Park"...I think it was on the X-Files soundtrack.

Yep, definitely need some goth/punk in there. My picks would be:
Peter Murphy - Cuts You Up
Bauhaus - Telegram Sam, Passion of Lovers
The Cure - Too many to name, but could start with Just Like Heaven or Boys Don't Cry
Sisters of Mercy - Temple of Love, Lucretia
Fields of the Nephilim - Moonchild
Skeletal Family - Promised Land
Siouxsie - Passenger, Dear Prudence, and Fireworks
Misfits - Hybrid Moment
The Bolshoi - A Way
Children on Stun - Hollow
Gene Loves Jezebel - Desire
Rosetta Stone - Leave Me For Dead, Adrenaline
Southern Death Cult - Fatman, Moya
There's alot more, but that's all I could think of right now.

Oh, of course. Although Nightwish and Within Temptation are probably closer symphonic metal than goth metal. ;) Also, add in Type 0 Negative to the gothic metal list.
To Clash77: Thumbs up for including Fields of the Nephilim in your list! I'd personally love to play Chord of Souls, from The Nephilim - it wasn't one of their singles, but it is probably my favorite song of theirs. I could imagine how difficult it would be to emulate the vocalist's guttural sound. Also, I liked the nod to The Cult's early days.

Wow I haven't heard Rosetta Stone in forever. Fun stuff.
Sisters of Mercy would be great. Personally I'd love to play "Ribbons".
Siouxsie is a must.
Bauhaus would be awesome.
I never thought of suggesting Elvis Costello - "Watching the Detectives", but the idea is awesome.

Was going to post a request for PWEI (Pop Will Eat Itself), but figured I'd bump this thread as well.
In particular:
PWEI: Ich Bin Ein Auslander (Can U Dig It? would be cool too but any PWEI Harmonix can get would make this Poppie happy)
I'd love to see any number of the other bands listed here make it onto Rock Band, especially Bauhaus!
A couple of other bands that would rock...
Jesus & Mary Chain
Love & Rockets

Agreed with the OP that it's crazy that "Goth" is an attitude choice and yet there's only the NIN content to cover that genre of actual music.
My own preferences include avoiding covers, so much as I love Siouxsie's "The Passenger" or Bauhaus' "Third Uncle" (give us the Eno original!), I'd rather go with stuff that's definitively from the artists in question. Given my druthers, I'd hear:
Bauhaus - In The Flat Field, She's In Parties, Bela Lugosi's Dead (Okay, repetitive, but it's a classic)
Love And Rockets - It Could Be Sunshine, Holiday on the Moon, No New Tale to Tell, So Alive (probably the pick since it's their only "big" single)
Sisters of Mercy - Alice, Temple of Love, Body Electric (but
I'll take the "bigger" club hits from Floodland and Vision Thing as necessary -- beggars can't be choosy. ;-))
Fields of the Nephilim - Last Exit For The Lost, Blue Water, Watchman, For Her Light
The Cure - (They're ridiculously mainstream -- we should at least get some of them) Lovesong and Just Like Heaven are obvious, but I'd love to see a mix of other fun -- A Forest was a great suggestion, but I'd also dig A Night Like This, Watching Me Fall... Okay, just about -anything- from the Cure would make me happy.
Siouxsie - Cities In Dust must be made to happen.
I'll skip right past asking for Christian Death. I recognize some things just don't happen. ;-) But I won't cry if Spiritual Cramp or Figurative Theater show up.
The Mission UK - Tower of Strength would be nice.
Joy Division - Just give me a song off of Closer. She's Lost Control would also be keen.
I realize it's a small genre with niche appeal, but at least toss us some Cure and Siouxsie. Bauhaus would be bonus and just about anything more would be amazing. Just show the music some love alongside the attitude, I beg. :)

Definently! And, to be quite honest, NiN isn't even vaguely close to goth - alternative rock or "light" industrial, maybe. Even Trent Reznor himself (for all of his genius) dislikes being categorized as goth. Granted, Andrew Eldritch of the Sisters of Mercy doesn't consider SoM a "goth" band either, but still! The point of my original post was to somehow convince HMX to put in a few songs from a highly neglected genre, both in RB /and/ the GH series. Encore: Rocks the 80s didn't have a single goth (they skimped on the post-punk/new wave also, including only Oingo Boingo and A Flock of Seagulls) song in it, from a decade that is often considered the birth and the commercial/mainstream peak of all three of these genres.
Anyways, you're choices are spot on. Although, why no mention of Kundalini Express for L&R? ;) That song would be a perfect example of not only goth and post-punk, but psychedelia as well, another genre that is missing from the RB-GH series.

Well, I definitely agree that NIN isn't goth, but most folks lump goth/industrial together and even though NIN doesn't fit industrial perfectly either (particularly these days), I think some might point to them as being our token representation.
As for Eldritch disclaiming the "goth" title, he's welcome to. It seems like most bands of the era did -- Siouxsie, the Cure, Bauhaus -- none of them felt like being pigeonholed. But he's a standard bearer, like it or not. I always hated the way he not only avoided the tag, but seemed to sneer at the adoring fans who wanted to give it to him. But lots of jerks are great musicians -- heck, I just downloaded the Oasis pack after all. ;-)
As for the lack of Kundalini Express, just a matter of personal preference. It never caught me the way It Could Be Sunshine and Holiday on the Moon did. Of course, that's academic as I think their most likely singles to get on would be either So Alive or their cover of Ball of Confusion, with a slight chance of No New Tale to Tell (which I danced to on Saturday night and would be happy to play).
Great topic though. Glad to know the genre's still kicking even if there aren't a lot of recent bands to give it life.

Yeah. Although goth and industrial have similar origins, the only people who lump them together are usually the ones who think MCR is "OMG so gawth and emo!" or clueless music critics. ;) I love both genres equally as much, though, and despite how I might have sounded in my previous post, am very glad that they decided to release a NiN pack. Certainly gives me hope for a goth genre pack in the near future!
That is true, about Eldritch. He is a little bit egotistical, and while I understand why he didn't like being pigeonholed, I never fully understood why he so vehemently denied being lumped together (in terms of similar genre and influence) with other great bands like Siouxsie and Bauhaus. It could be much worse, though - at least he isn't the Gallagher brothers. :) (I'm an unabashed purchaser of the Oasis pack, too. While I may not like the band as human beings, I have to admit that Noel is a highly talented songwriter.)
True about the L&R point. I'd be happy if ANY L&R made it to the game, regardless of what song it was. :) Beggars can't be choosers in my case! While goth may be deader than disco, a DLC pack may help remedy this situation somewhat, up to the point where "Oh, you're so gawth!" or "Oh, you're so emo!" are no longer tossed around as generic insults the moment you decide to put a little bit of black into your clothing. The public's perception of goth and emo music really irks me.

Dissapointed that this week's DLC didn't include any goth songs, but to HMX's credit, they did pick three great songs from three different bands. How about a little more variety in the bands, though?
Bump.
