i'm lucky enough to have both a 360 and a ps3, and wanted to know which of them had ran better/had extra features. the wirelessness of the stuff's doesn't mean much to me. thanks.

Both versions are identical. The only difference is that the 360 works with Guitar Hero 360 controllers. Though, a patch will be out soon to do the same for PS3.

I'd go with xbox 360, since 360 seems to be more popular, and Xbox Live is more polished then PS3's online.

I'm just as lucky as you (even luckier if you count the Wii) and I chose to go with 360 version. Xbox Live and Achievements were the main factors. Plus I'm not 100% sure I would have been able to play my friends who also have the 360 version if I had gone with the PS3 version.

Coming from an owner of the PS3 version of the game, I can see that the 360 version is better. There's no way to communicate to other players online with the PS3 version of the game. Not even with a keyboard interface or anything. The sole advantage the PS3 version might have over the 360 version is the wireless Strat, but that will be coming soon for the 360 version anyway. With the 360 version, you'll also get new DLC available two days before the PS3 users get it.
They're mostly identical though in all other aspects.

yeah im pswii60 too. I don't really care much for the achievements, and I'm unsure of whether or not I should renew my XBL (expires late Jan) 'cause the only thing I play online atm is CoD4 and I could play RB on PSN if I bought it for PS3. Playing with your friends on XBL is a very good point though... I know 2 ppl with PS3 and like 30 with 360. Thanks for the input guys. 360 it is (unless its out of stock, cuz I'm not waiting weeks for new shipments).

360 all the way.....my PS3 is a dust collector atm. I also have the Wii (for VC games pretty much)
Like others said, LIVE is the deciding factor......

i'm pleasantly surprised to see this thread hasn't turned into a console war lol
i dont have a ps3 so i couldnt tell you what that version is like.. i'd assume its real similar though, but yeah the lack of the extra guitar in the meantime might persuade you to play the 360 version
i love the 360 version personally though.. me and my brother play co-op on xbox live from time to time, and everybody seems to be real down to earth and cool so the experience never turns into a trash talking session like halo 3's online.. plus the DLC is great!

If you're tight on cash, I'd recommend getting the PS3 since PSN is free. On the other hand Live is a lot more stable but for a fee, of course.
Besides, 70% of the time online in music games, you don't chat with others since you/others are focused on hitting the notes, unless you're talented. I am in no hurry for voice chat for the PS3 version.

I was in the same boat, I thought long and hard, but I opted for the PS3 version because I have my PS3 in a more public and social part of my apartment (larger room, main TV). I will say the lack of 360 achievements is a bummer, but the existing PS3 guitars are wireless and as long as you have any PS3 other than the 40gig, you have 4 USB ports rather than having to use a powered USB hub like with the 360, but I don't see that as a big deal really. Also, I have a lot more hard-drive space available on my PS3 for downloads than I do on my 360.
I played online with a friend of mine the other day, and we chatted on the phone because he didn't have any form of headset for his PS3. Little did I know that it wouldn't have helped if he did - I didn't know that there was no 'chatting' in the PS3 version game. BIG mistake!
Does the 360 version have a 'group chat' feature, where you can all be online playing and tell someone "Nice drum fill!" or "Dude hang on, we'll save you!" like you do when you all play in person? That's a big part of the game!
I want a PS3 patch for group communication!
I really don't want to incite a console war, but the more I use my PS3, the more I prefer it to my 360. It has been a long time coming, I assure you! Mostly "folding@home" while the 360 was busy with Crackdown and Rainbow 6. Sony just needs to get their online tighter. 360 is still the best purchase in my eyes, but I'm just sayin'...

If you are buying today its 360 hands down:
- GH guitar compatability (may not be an issue in a few days)
- DLC comes out 2 days sooner
- MS Points are given away free every so often and occasionally are also on sale at brick and mortar stores which reduces the cost of DLC (also no CC required which matters to some)
Minor things:
- Achievements
- If you already have Live it is more reliable than PSN
- voice chat

Just wanted to highlight the fact that this is the first time I've seen a thread like this not degrade into a console war. I'm officially impressed with the Rock Band community.

Both Consoles are great. But the 360 seems more flexible with this game. and the only downside to the PS3 I see is Controller Capability and slight lag sometimes. (360 gets them too, but doesn't seem as much.)
Just buy the version of whatever console you own or like the most. For me, it happens to be the 360. In the end, who really cares as long as you get the weekly DLC. ^_^

I have all 3 systems also but I opted for the PS3 version. The 360 is usually my console of choice but as I live in Ireland and the 360 version was region locked I went for the PS3 version

If you have both, there's very little differentiating factors. XBox has voice chat, but Harmonix can add that really easily to the PS3 as well (it's just like in xbox - they just need to enable it from the OS.... the reason not all games do is that Sony doesn't force the developer to do it, unlike microsoft who does).
360 has achievements, PS3 doesn't. *shrug* Both rock.
If you have a non-40 gig ps3 you won't need a hub to play, which is nice.

I would personally go with these factors:
1) Which one do all my friends have?
2) do I care about wireless (which you said you don't already)
3) Is Online a Factor?
4) If Online is a factor, is Voice Chat a factor?
5) Do you own GH for PS3 or XB360?
6) If you own GH for PS3, are you willing to wait for the Les Paul Patch for RB?

Just for reference - they announced a fix for this last night, and are just trying to get it through the pipeline.... they thought it would get out last night, but hit a snag. My guess is that it'll be out today. So this is very shortly going to be a non-issue for PS3 users! :D
I think what's most important is what systems your friends have, because you're going to want to play with them, and there's no cross platform playing, unfortunately.

Honestly, I am loving my PS3 version. I had a 360 for a while, but I never felt like I was getting my money's worth with Live. Sure, PSN is new and does not yet have as many features, however, those who say PSN is unstable have no played using it lately. At launch it was up and down, anymore it's always up. The only time I've been disconnected is when a firmware/store update is being pushed out. Here is my list of reasons I love the PS3 verson.
1) The hub is a bit of a pain in the butt as it requires another electrical outlet.
2) PSN is free.
3) Wireless guitar controller didn't seem like a big deal to me at first, now I can't live without it.
4) The PS3 bundle can be a lot easier to find.
5) DLC delay is a blessing in disguise. Those two days allow for people on these forums to discuss how good/fun/etc. the DLC songs are.
6) My PS3 won't RROD. I don't mean to incite a console war, but I don't think I could live a day without Rock Band.

Free and/or cheaper MS points??? Since when? I've been on Live for three months and have not seen this anywhere. I'm always checking prices onlie and whenever I'm ina store that sells console gear. I wish there were free/cheaper points.

I too have never had problems with PSN being unstable (this is in 5 months of use), and being free is a big bonus. The store has crapped out on me once however, but that could just have easily been my ISP (America has crappy DSL).
1) You can get ones powered through the PS3. For example this one: Belkin 4 Port USB Hub (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=367680). Only costs 14.99 as well.
2) Yep, I hated paying for Live and never felt I got my moneys worth but this is definitely debatable. I just don't play that much online.
3) Again, absolutely agree. Wireless guitar is so nice. Friends coming over and picking up guitar and just moving around where they want to play from without cords getting all tangled up.
5) This is true as well, and I don't see how 2 days is such a big deal to wait anyway. I also figure if any major problems creep up in the songs (not sure what that would be, but guess could be possible) then may not make it to the PS3 at all.
This had some great points on the PS3 so wanted to second them. Ultimately I think it comes down to two things:
1) Which one will your friends have?
2) Do you want to pay for Live all the time? (unless you already have live)
I prefer my free online to live. Plus while it may be a long time coming, PSN Home should be out sometime next year that will add a lot of features.

Like several of you, I have both systems and got the 360 version mainly because I have more room and a better place where the 360 is. Didn't want to leave the drums set, guitar, etc laying aroung in the family room (PS3). This thing just rocks! I'm sure the PS3 version is just as much fun.

I have both PS3 & 360 and the deciding factor for me was that I already owned Guitar Hero 2 & GH3 for the 360 (and the reason I got GH3 for 360 because I already had GH2 & TWO X-plorer guitars). I also have the wireless Les Paul guitar for the 360, so it was really a no-brainer to get Rock Band for the 360. Especially since the RB bundle only comes with one guitar and I didn't want to have to go out and buy yet another guitar in order to play as a 4 piece band (at the time I didn't even know that the GH guitars were incomputable with RB on the PS3, although this will supposedly be fixed with a soon to be released patch). On top of that I also own 2 guitar controllers for the PS2 for GH1 & GH 80's (total of 6 guitars now if you're keeping count), so if I even thought about getting the PS3 version and had to go out and buy a 7th guitar, I'm pretty sure my wife would file for a divorce (or she might just insist I see a psychiatrist).
With all that said, I must say that I do love my PS3 though (no dust on it whatsoever). Just a matter of which version would work with my existing controllers.

I know you have Live and achievments with the 360, but the PSN will have HOME which will have achievments as well. And the environmant will be a 3D interactive (Chat rooms in 3D more or less).
I picked up the Playstation because of the fact that the online features are FREE, and I knew HOME was comming out for it.
I don't know; I just can't justify in my mind paying to play online... It's like having to pay for a second ISP such as Cable or DSL + paying for a full AOL or MSN account.
And needing to use a credit card is kinda moot, since you can pick up a pre-paid credit card practicly anywhere.
I wouldn't view the wireless aspect of the guitars as a blessing personaly... I just don't like that dongle; it can be a source for lag issues.
All in all I love the PS3, and its capabilities. There are some amazing games comming out for it shortly now too that will just blow your mind. Take a look into LittleBigPlanet when you get a chance.

My only negative comment about the 360 version and this goes for pretty much any 360 game that is heavily dependent on DLC, if your machine RRoD's you won't be able to play those DLC songs offline or on other profiles besides the one that bought the song while being connected to Xbox Live.
This is a huge negative to me and since I've personally had this experience with my 360, I bought a PS3 and Rock Band PS3 just to avoid it in the future.

I also own both a 360 and ps3. But I went with the ps3 because of the wireless guitars and here's why:
I own a bar in Pennsylvania and I play the game with my customers. The wireless guitars are a must and that's why I went with th ps3 version. I actually bought two ps3 bundles so that I can have two guitars and spare drums.
And let me say one more thing.....this is by far the best game to play in a bar. People will be playing this game and there will be a small crowd of peple watching them play. My customers have been playing Guitar Hero in my bar for two years and they couldn't wait for Rock Band to come out.
I love this game and it plays great on the ps3. As you can tell, I'm not worried about achievements and online play so Xbox Live wasn't a deciding factor for me.....the wireless guitars were.
Enjoy the game!!!

That's not what I was referring to at all. If you're doing band quickplay online, you can't even communicate with your fellow players about choosing songs or anything. It's essentially like playing with robots who choose random songs and random difficulties.
