Pretty much if it were pronounced in any way but "gauge (geyj)", I might like it, like "gag" or "gawg" or "gaggy" or "gauzhe" would be cool, but if you meant "gauge" or anything pronounced "gauge" then, yeah it's a bad name.

I don't think it's a stupid name. I knew a girl in highschool named Gage and she got lots of compliments for it.

But yeah it depends on what you're naming. If it's a pet, I wouldn't worry....for a child...hmm...put some thought into it.
