Open call to any and all music gaming fans for entries
Come rock what you've got at the second annual Mind Shock! Rock Band competition at WYOU! The show combines the popular music game program Rock Band with a live television contest show, similar to the wildly popular 'American Idol' and other successful television contests. The current iteration of Rock Band, Rock Band 2 allows you to create your own personal rock artist image and style, while "performing" popular rock songs as the game tracks your motions as you play on the game's "instruments."
Craig Meyer, originator of Mind Shock! Rock Band, aims to use his regular spot on WYOU to bring more people into the studio and get more people to watch WYOU as he invites contestants to live out their rock star fantasies. The event consists of a series of televised Rock Band competitions; winners will place first, second and third by a combination of live judging and game scores. All competitions will air on WYOU, which is currently cablecast in Madison and greater Dane County by Charter Communications, on channels 95 analog and 991 digital, and streaming live at www.wyou.org.
Last year's second place band leader, James Malone, has now joined forces with Meyer to produce this year's Mind Shock! Rock Band competition, to do it "bigger and better than before." After winning a year's membership to WYOU from last year's contest, James Malone formed "Second Place Productions," which has produced its own feature and short length films throughout this past year, all aired on WYOU. So far they have aired two short length movies, "Hangups: The Rise and Fall of Rutger Hayer and the $2500 Phone" and "Well, Goodnight." A third movie is currently in pre-production. James Malone's "band" will also reunite at this year's Mind Shock! Rock Band competition, for its grand finale at High Noon Saloon.
Malone and Meyer have decided to produce this year's show with a clear mind to benefit Madison's first and only community television station WYOU, whose future currently is yet unknown and under construction as a result of recent funding withdrawals by the City of Madison and Charter Cable communications. Proceeds from the contest registration and grand finale High Noon Saloon performance will go to support WYOU community television. To contribute further, Mind Shock! Rock Band has received financial sponsorship, gift prizes and volunteer hosts from local and national businesses, such as Game Stop, OXM (Original Xbox Magazine), Good N Loud, Gallant Knight Limousines and WYOU, with prizes added daily. This year's event does indeed look like its steady on the path to "bigger and better."
Potential contestants and competition viewers should know that the initial show takes place on April 29 at the WYOU television station, and following shows will air on May 6 and 13, at 8 pm. The final round will climax in a live public performance at the High Noon Saloon on May 18 at 7 pm. Contestants will pay an entry fee of $20 per band (4 members) or a WYOU membership of $40. Tickets for the live finale show at High Noon Saloon are $5, all ages welcome.
Competitors can register by contacting James Malone at jamesmaloneiii@gmail.com. Thanks to Malone and Meyer, the Madison area community will once again know how hard it rocks with Mind Shock! Rock Band Competition, good fun for all ages.
