Show some love for your favorite guitar god on Camp Freddy's latest poll! I really WANTED to support the mighty gusano311, but the Wyld Stallyns are just too awesome not to vote for. Sorry Ron! :p

I guess I'll kick off this week's Freddy dlc reviews.

Umm.....Look you can probably avoid this week's stuff if you want to. I won't even talk about whether or not the music itself is any good, except to say that its a mess. In places its an awesome mess, but its still a mess.

So, the charts: Bass is TERRIBLE. I mean just awful. If you asked me yesterday what the all time worse song on bass was, I would have told you Motley Crue's Without You. Not so anymore! Chinese Democracy has not one, not two, but three songs that are actually MORE boring than Without You. Good news Nikki Sixx, you're off the hook! If you enjoy doing nothing in a song but holding long sustained notes for upwards of 15 minutes per note then I suggest you go out and buy Sorry, This I Love, and Prostitute immediately. Even the songs that aren't as dull as these three are nothing special. If you're primarily a bass player avoid Gnr like the plague.

Guitar was ok, I guess. The songs all seem to follow a pretty basic pattern of not being very hard, then there's a solo that's kind of hard but not too awful, then more easiness, than another solo where Buckethead jumps out of your tv and beats you to death with your own rb strat. The ones I was able to get through I liked alright, but there were plenty I got owned on. Your mileage may vary depending on your skill level, which is most likely far above mine.

All that said, I had a lot of fun with the drums. They reminded me of the drum charts on the Dr. Feelgood album: almost insultingly easy, but still enjoyable in spite of this. The basic beats are simple, but there's lots of fills, and stuff based off drum loops, and a few patterns that were kind of unique. Honestly Id recommend these tracks to anyone new to expert drums. You'll get plenty of practice for beats and fills that show up in tougher songs, but they're slow enough that you can get used to them before you play songs that are genuinely difficult.

I wouldn't say we needed a whole album of Chinese Democracy material, but I think a three pack of Better, If The World, and There Was A Time would have been pretty killer. At least on drums it would have been anyway.

choice is so hard between Hendrix and Gus raaaah. i'd like to suggest another vote: do fisshead and fukdiggity need an alarm clock to be on time at the morning session?

The options for the vote could be:
a)yes
b)absolutely
c)most definitely
and d)more like five or six alarm clocks :D

warbeast update.....
ok my first beast i ot use to. it has many quirks but i got use to them. i got used to the noise, the dropping green note and yellow notes.the dongle that needs to be replugged to sync 20 times. i did improve my scores drastically. then a sunday morn i go to jam poof dongle dont work. i never seen a dongle not work. tried to get dongle from dreamgear makers of warbeast but i think i could levitate before they pick up the phone . then luckily i called walmart they expressed me a whole beast where i just needed dongle . meanwhile dreamgear called said no issues ever with warbeast ha. try googling i said. every single problem people had i got them all. dreamgear will gladly replace under 120 days but you pay 4 shipping. so screw it walmart was 2 go .the new beast is quieter then 1st one no dropping of notes im happy. till i whammy it will whammy everything but od notes. i have to wrestle it to budge. though im happy ill deal with. i pack up old beast to return to walmart.

pt 3 i go to jam today and new beast is dead . will not power on 2 broken warbeasts . in 3 weeks time. so i take new neck put it on old body that works 4 now to who knows when .
warbeast is a great concept but poorly made .
i will never buy dreamgear product again. bc rich should take there name off this horrible product.
do not buy one there not worth it . rb2 strat is the king and they should make a full size yeah baby.

lil bit late with gunners review ok alotta late lol. i wanted to spend time with guns roses. i knew at 1st the music was going to make me angry which it did. though there are many songs i like to play and not to listen to is why i needed time with this.
ok did we really need need 14 of these songs no. i would have enjoyed a 5 pack. i was expecting crazier guitar charts. riads song was the hardest 4 me. i enjoyed the charts for the most part. better chinese and scraped (total buckethead track) are the best for guitar. bass the first 6 songs awesome. then wtf 3 of the worst bass charts ever finish out the album. silver is more active then these songs. bigfish said drums where fun lil bit boring. ok vocals these are eddie vedder style rants raves ooooos ahhs but if eddie had his nuts in a vice grip . this you either hating it or loving it . scale 1 to 10 as full album imo 5. guitars are what shine here and vox gets tortured. while thats happening drummer and bass have time to piont and laugh lol. enjoy

this weeks dlc
hautework band of mystery. there charts are easy havent tried vox. there music is really growing on me. if you want a challenge stay away. perfect to learn expert on .
reo speedwagon um i liked 2 of the guitar charts all of the bass charts. ill leave it at. reo is a band i loathe.
styx these records are awesome. guitar charts where FUNNNNN! bass charts easy but fun vocals are kool. funk got drums. i really enjoyed being tommy shaws girlfriend as he abused me. axl should hired him one tommy shaw = axls 57 guitar players i just saved axl 1 mill lol
cant stop rockin like the ideajust weak song weak charts till end solo punches you in the taint . scale 1 to 10 i give this week 7 .

Haha Nice reviews! Gusano I agree with pretty much everything. except Hautewerk. How anyone willingly listens to that drivel is beyond me. On to the Freddy daily recap.

Had a real nice jam with Gus eating riffs like PB&J Sammiches. Funk making sweet sweet love to his yellow cymbal on the disco beats while i quietly laugh and make fun of his manhood. I snoozed through a few songs on bass, Gus decided not to torture me today with anything difficult. Newcomer sothrowed4438 needs to call a plumber to come check out those pipes! Nice job on the vox with some awesome sightreads on the new DLC and a challenging dead track. everyone look forward to playing with him! 5 Gold Stars all around!

This week's dlc gets a big giant MEH from me. Track for track the bass charts bored me to tears. It wasn't gnr bad by any means, but it all left an awful lot to be desired. I wasn't real thrilled about the guitars either. The REO/Styx stuff all felt kind of samey: pretty easy rhythm guitar stuff, solos that are trickier than I expected them to be, not much here that makes one song feel very different from the others.

Drums are somewhat better. Riding The Storm Out or whatever its called is great. If you're only getting one song this week I'd recommend that one. You're pretty much doing bass kicks constantly, and it really adds an extra bit of awesome to what would normally be just a terrible REO Speedwagon song. The Styx songs aren't hard, but some of the patterns and fills are a little different than most of what you find in the game. They also all feature disco beats, but the're really easy, really basic disco beats, packaged in nice little triplets. If you want a few songs that will let you ease in to playing these things, Styx is as good a place to start as any, I guess. The less said about Can't Stop Rockin the better. That may be my new least favorite song to listen to in the entire game.

Hautework I'm kind of on the fence on. They're easy fc's/gold stars for drums, and Stop Start Again is one of those really simple songs that has a distinctive enough chart that I like playing it anyway. But its not like these tracks are fun overall or anything. They're just kind of there. I'm not sure what they're doing in the game at all, really.

This is another week you could probably skip pretty much everything and not miss anything essential or exceptionally enjoyable. Unless you're a Styx/REO fan, in which case I don't even understand you.

Only got 2 bucks? Skip dinner on the value menu and get yourself the one RockBand DLC that everyone should have! I will be posting a weekly editorial highlighting the weeks biggest catch!

This Week -
Roll With the Changes - REO Speedwagon
It was a tough race this week with several runners up in consideration as these are all some great classic rock and roll songs. But Roll With the Changes is the stand out for overall enjoyment on all instruments. Here is why.....

Guitar - A bit of a strumfest, but very manageable, with some awesome licks thrown in between as filler that make you feel like you are doing more than pushing plastic. Awesome solos that are just hard enough to provide challenge, but not make you wanna cry yourself to sleep. Not to mention they sound friggin awesome.

Bass - A really solid bassline with some nice HOPO sections, and requiring some tricky quick hits on the strumbar. You probably won't FC it the first time through, but you'll feel really good about it when it does happen.

Drums - This is a long song with a very steady stream of hits coming at you, none of it is too fast, but you will feel like a rockstar doing it. A few off beat kicks but nothing too serious. The first time you nail all the snare hits when the music breaks might just give you a little wood and make you twirl your sticks. It won't be a challenge for the extreme RockBand drummer(yeah i'm looking at you Funk) but it will sure make you look cool to any passerby watching. Invite some girls over and wait for the undergarments to fly!

Vocals - Grow some lungs and buy a coffee table that can support your fat ass. Lots of fun. This one makes you wanna move around and belt it out. NO HUMMING ALLOWED! You know you sing along whenever you hear it on the radio or in the bar. So have another beer and grow some cohones. Let's hear what you got!

Party - If you have people over often this will end up in frequent rotation. A group of highly skilled expert players and a vocalist with some stage presence will bring the house down with this one. One of those songs that might make someone pick up the mic that is otherwise too shy.

Hope you enjoy the first edition of the $2 catch of the week. See you next week with my Jane's Addiction pick! Remember mileage may vary per user, all opinions welcome. Please discuss.

I'm not a Styx or REO fan by any means. but i had a pretty good time with all these songs. With the exception of Riding the Storm Out, maybe solid on drums, but arguably the worst of the main six. Couldn't agree with you more on Hautewerk and the REO/Styx collaboration. At least they didn't give us Come Sail Away or (dare I say it) Mr roboto!

here is the second round AC tourny summary. I wouldn't say we were robbed of winning, we never stood a chance of winning when we found out who was going to be playing against us, If any of the freddys check band scores on the ps3 you will usually see our band Dead Mans Hand near the top. but any who the first band to go up were all xbox players doing tangled up in blue this band was sponsered and flown in from all over the country there band name is ice mage all were bad asses and yes the singer sung the song 100% their score was 2.59 mill pretty damn good, the second band were the ones who should have been dq for the singer humming down with the sickness but their drummer and guitar players were extremely great having a score of 2.62 i believe, the third band featured dogfoodnyc and gurnkiller <<like the 3rd best drummer on xbox we were pulling for them to win but they came short on down with the sickness by 40k or so putting up a 2.61 million, then it was our turn to go up and play knowing we would not even get close to those scores we just played a song for the crowd carry on my wayward son scoring a whopping 600k but our guitarist left the stage in the middle of the song to take a walk in the crowd strumming away while not looking at the tv, and our singer bouncing and jumping around sliding like he was in a mosh pit and me laughing non stop trying to drum and ms greyghost on bass playing med <normally our lead singer we just decided to flip the script since we knew we werent going to win> but over all a great time met some new friends and got plenty of videos once dogfood posts them i will put the link here so yall can enjoy the chaos that insued.

and here is the offical second review of the Ion drum set following up on funks post,

a must have for anybody really wanting to learn more on the drums the pads are bigger and much more slient, you can now wail away on them with out them breaking, the big metal kick pedal is great, I find myself hitting the bass notes easier now and it comes more naturally while playing, I also sit at an angle to the drums with the red pad inbetween my legs like most snare drums would be, and the yellow in line with my right leg at the 45 degree angle that i sit, at first it was weird getting used to the location of the pads and cymbols it took about 2 weeks and then it was on like donky kong, and after you sit behind one and have to go back and play on the rb drumset well its just not as fun or the same feels week, so overall I give it 5 stars out of 5.

Hey everyone.. Welcome to eRock's Blast from the past. I Picked YYZ this week because it is one of my fav's. I take this job seriously so I flew out to Canada to see what info I could dig up and ended up passed out in the bar. I flew back home with no info whatsoever and paid $5 to a homeless guy in a alley for any info. He told me to go to wikipedia.. Best 5 bucks I ever spent...

The pronunciation of the title tends to follow the Canadian (and British) dialect form for the letter "Z", thus: "Why" "Why" "Zed", rather than "Why" "Why" "Zee"

YYZ is the IATA airport identification code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Air_Transport_Association_airport_co de) for Toronto Pearson International Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Pearson_International_Airport), of Rush's native area of Toronto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto). It is common practice for air navigation aids to broadcast their identifier code in Morse Code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_Code) using VHF omnidirectional range (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHF_omnidirectional_range) (VOR). A plane using VOR equipment would then always know it's tracking the right station. The song's introduction, played in a time signature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_signature) of 5/4, repeatedly renders the letters "Y-Y-Z" in Morse Code using various musical arrangements.
Drummer and lyricist Neil Peart has said, in reference to the airport code, "It's always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags."

The song has been covered in whole or in part by Tuesday's Coming (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tuesday%27s_Coming&action=edit&redlink=1), Godsmack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godsmack) (in "Batalla De Los Tambores" on the Changes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changes_%28DVD%29) live DVD), Primus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primus_%28band%29) (in the performance of "John the Fisherman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Fisherman)" released on their 1989 live album Suck on This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suck_on_This) and in full during other concerts), Umphrey's McGee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umphrey%27s_McGee), and Dream Theater (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_Theater) (as Majesty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majesty_demos)). The metal band Atheist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheist_%28band%29) has stated that their upcoming album will include a cover of "YYZ".

"YYZ" was nominated for a Grammy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy) in the Best Rock Instrumental (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Rock_Instrumental_Performanc e) category in 1982 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Awards_of_1982). YYZ lost to "Behind My Camel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behind_My_Camel)", by The Police (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Police), from their album Zenyatta Mondatta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenyatta_Mondatta).

Watch video for drum solo.

OK now for the review..

This is a hard song all around.. The beginning is pretty straight forward and easy to master. You really need to master hammer on's and pull off's for this song both on bass and guitar. Drum's hmmmm it's Neil Peart: need I say any more. Vocals are the hardest because you will have to stay awake watching everyone else play..

My only disappointment would be that they did not include any drum solo. Even a trimmed down version would have been awesome. Maybe they will put a live version on DLC someday..

This is eRock the Bassinator wishing you a rockin week.

One of my favorite songs to play is Like a Fool by Shaimus. When I first heard the song, I started groovin'. I like it because it's peppy and easy to dance to. I even like playing it on the game. (even though I can't 5 star it on bass yet) It just leaves me feelin' good.

So, this weeks Cherry pick is Like a Fool by Shaimus.

once a week im going suggest some dlc for rockband . i will suggest a song ,album, and band enjoy.
my band pick is
The Supersuckers:Saving Rock & Roll andCountry in one fell swoop
these fellas would be so much fun.they even do a rock cover version of hey ya. if you never heard of them check them out.
song pick stars by hum this a epic song that would be fun for all instruments
album pick 311 self titled plenty of groovin songs there. i know bigfish would hate it. it would have some of the funnest bass charts p nut is amazing , killer on vocals and i would learn to drum just to do the patented 311 snare pop.the guitar charts would have rock and reggae style to them.the party songs would be down , purpose, all mixed up, t &a combo and brodel would all be hits .
discuss enjoy and always rock it as a freddyite !

Why?
Because BC said so!

I love this song. I love how jazzy the verses sound. Or at least they sound jazzy to my untrained ear. Whatever. Its an awesome track. If you request it every time we jam together you'll make me the happiest drummer in fredtopia.

This was an awesome week for dlc. I'm not a huge Jane's Addiction fan. Really they're a band that I can pretty much take 'em or leave 'em, but in terms of gameplay they seem to be a group whose music is really well suited to music games. What I really loved about this album was that these songs were good at evening each other out. Every song but one was fun on at least two instruments, most on all three. So if there was a song I wasn't digging on drums, it didn't matter, because the bass and guitar charts more than made up for it. Jane Says is the only clunker of the bunch. I know Thank You Boys is kind of ridiculous, but its a fun chart, its unique sounding compared to other material in the game, and the length isn't that different from some of the shorter Pixies songs, so whatever. Hardly a classic, but fun enough for what it is.

For the first time in what feels like 300 years, I enjoyed playing bass. None of these songs are terribly hard (though a couple of them are just crazy-go-nuts, like Standing In the Shower), and in fact they're mostly pretty repetitive. But that's ok, because really they're all just about finding a groove and staying in it, and that can be fun if its a well charted groove as these songs are.

Gusano is dead on about this being a guitar player's pack. You get to do a little bit of everything. Difficulty wise, I don't think these songs are too bad. I averaged 3 or 4 stars on all these songs, and if I can stumble and button mash my way through this stuff, then normal guitar players should be just fine. The solos strike me as tricky, but again, not impossible. These songs are great, not so easy that you'll get bored with them, but not so hard that you want to step on Dave Navarro's fingers either. Good middle of the road stuff, mostly.

If nothing else, this album is worth it for the drums. There are three songs on here that I would say are ALMOST as awesome to play as Funk 49, which most of us drummers can agree is the best drum chart in the game. Did you catch that? THREE songs nearly as great as James Gang, all in the same week, and all in the same pack (Had A Dad, Idiots Rule, and Pigs In Zen, for the record). That's huge. Two more songs are way above average, definitely worth buying, if not going bananas over (Ocean Size and Standing In The Shower, for those keeping score). And of course there's Ted Just Admit It, a fairly challenging, though not impossible red tiered track. Jane Says is completely forgettable, and Thank You Boys is fun, if you can get over the fact that its a big stupid joke of a song. What's left are a couple songs that are boring, but enjoyable enough on guitar/bass to still be worth your money. Really drummers, its dumb not to buy this. At least do yourself a favor and cherry pick a few of them.

Jane's Addiction is ridiculously strong on three instruments, almost constantly. I've had a couple singers tell me this stuff is garbage, so I guess if you like vocals you're out of luck this week. Non singing freddyites can look forward to having a great time though.

“Eminence Front”
Song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song) by The Who (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Who)
Album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album) It's Hard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Hard)
Released 1982
Length 5:39

"Eminence Front" is a song written and sung by Pete Townshend of The Who; The single reached #68 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the only song from the album that the band has opted to play live after its initial tours directly after releasing the album. Lead singer Roger Daltrey, vocally critical of the album, described "Eminence Front" as the only song on it that he felt was worthy of being released.

The song itself focuses on the hedonistic lifestyle that was prevalent during the 1980s. The lyrics concern a party in which people ignore their problems and merely try to hide behind a facade — an "eminence front." Townshend has introduced the song in live performances with the words, "this song is about what happens when you take too much white powder. It's called 'Eminence Front'.

There is a rumor that the lyrics/title was originally "Everything's F**ked, and they called it Eminence Front to get it approved, and get radio airplay. I have not seen anything giving credence to this so it is still a rumor...

Gameplay:

Vocals: Repetitive but can be difficult because you will have to change pitch for the same words.

Drums: Repetitive and fairly easy being a Kieth Moon set.

Bass: Beginning is a bit boring but the last half of the song picks up and is quite challenging and will keep you awake.

Guitar: You need some nimble fingers and speed to get through the beginning of this song and it will frustrate a few people but keep at it and you can make it. The meat of the song is repetitive but you have to keep focused or you wont hit all the notes. Great solo in the song to break it up a bit.

This is eRock the Bassinator
May all your notes be of perfect tone...

Correction: Kieth moon did not perform on Eminence Front. Kenney Jones played drums on the album.. Thanks Funk for the info

Only got 2 bucks? Skip dinner on the value menu and get yourself the one RockBand DLC that everyone should have! I will be posting a weekly editorial highlighting the weeks biggest catch!

This Week -
Ocean Size - Jane's Addiction
I agree with nearly everything stated by my bandmates regarding the full album. It's instrumentally one of the best full album releases to date and this was a tough decision. It may not be the best single guitar track, bass track, drum track or vocal track of the new releases. But all combined this one shines above the rest, if only slightly. Here is why.....

Guitar - A nice HO/PO intro. Some stretches of chord strumming to save your OD for and jack up your score. And 4, count 'em, 4 solos! The first one, most will ace on sightread, but don't get too comfortable. The last ones are scorchers. Not long enough to fail you out but you might just sweat for a minute. These are superfun solos and probably one of the best guitar charts i've seen in a while.

Bass - As basslines go, yes they can be repetitive and it is all about finding the groove and enjoying being in it. This one is a pretty simple pattern with a few change ups later on in the song. The good thing is that it's not so easy that you will fall asleep playing it!

Drums - As Funk noted, one of the more solid drum tracks on the album. The beat is slow enough to handle for the average joe drummer with enough off beat kicks so you still look good doing it. Which always scores points in my book!

Vocals - Yes Perry is a pain to sing, and even worse to listen to but this is one of the more manageable and enjoyable tracks. Many of the notes are held out, so if you can find it, just stay on it and belt it out. The pitch isn't hard to match, but don't try to hit the original octave unless you are Perry Farrel, or a pre-pubescent boy, or both.

Party - The obvious choice this week would have been Jane Says, just from brand recognition, but honestly it's just sooooooo boring on all fronts. Most people won't recognize this Ocean Size at a party, but the anthemic feel throughout makes it instantly enjoyable. A vocal party tip - shotgun a beer, drop down to hard difficulty, flip Perry the bird, and make this song your own. You WILL draw a crowd.

Hope you enjoy this weeks edition of the $2 catch of the week. See you next week with my pick! With all the randomness next week, it should be real interesting! Remember mileage may vary per user, all opinions welcome. Please discuss.

I Stand Alone by Godsmack is an easy and fun song to play. I really enjoy playing this song on bass. And I enjoy singing it too. And I'm not a drummer, but by golly, it's fun on drums too. I think I'll go play it on guitar (as soon as I'm finished playing Eminence Front for the 100th time). haha. But, any instrument, this song is fun to play. So, have fun Freddyites. I Stand Alone by Godsmack is the Cherry Pick of the week.

This weeks review is Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival..

Single by
Creedence Clearwater Revival

from the album
Willy and the Poor Boys A-side Down on the Corner

Released November 2, 1969
Recorded Fall 1969
Genre Rock
Length 2:21
Label Fantasy
Writer(s) John Fogerty Producer John Fogerty

A compliation of other comments by Fogerty on "Fortunate Son" is included in Craig Werner's oral history of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Up Around the Bend:
When I wrote "Fortunate Son," Julie Nixon was hanging around with David Eisenhower. And you just had the feeling that none of those people were going to be involved with the war. In 1969, the majority of the country thought morale was great among the troops, and like eighty percent of them were in favor of the war. But to some of us who were watching closely, we just knew we were headed for trouble ... It was written, of course, during the Nixon era, and, well, let's say I was very nonsupportive of Mr. Nixon There just seemed to be this trickle down to the offspring of people like him. You got the impression that these people got preferential treatment, and the whole idea of being born wealthy or being born powerful seemed to really be coming to the fore in the late-sixties' confrontation of cultures. I was twenty-three years old, I think. I was mad at the specter of the ordinary kid who had to serve in an army in a war that he was very much against. Yet the sons of the well-to-do and powerful didn't have to worry about those things. They were fortunate. I thought, all these guys were running around saying, "It's good for America" — Nixon or whoever was saying this. Yet their kids ain't going.
To head off some obvious questions, we'll note that John Fogerty himself was drafted in 1966 but, in his words, he "was able to finagle [his] way into an [Army] reserve unit" instead because he had "contacted them before before [he] got drafted." He served at Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, and Fort Lee, with a total of six months on active duty. David Eisenhower (for whom the presidential retreat known as Camp David is named) enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1970 and served three years on active duty, most of it as an officer aboard the USS Albany in the Mediterranean Sea.

Fogerty performed the song in front of President Bill Clinton and a national TV audience on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the "America's Millennium" show on December 31, 1999.

Rolling Stone ranked the song #99 on their list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

On Fogerty's 2007 album Revival, the song "I Can't Take It No More," which speaks out against the Iraq War, implicitly links the Iraq and Vietnam wars by referring to George W. Bush as a fortunate son.

Vox: Is a pretty straight forward there are some pitch changes and the lyrics are awesome. just have some fun with it.

Drums: Nothing fancy and fairly easy. There are some fills to have fun with. For the majority of the song you'll be doing a basic hi-hat and snare 4/4 beat, with a bass beat changing ever so slightly throughout the course of the tune.

Guitar: Fairly easy. it does have a moderate pace and does keep from getting boring to much. There are some fun HO/PO's and the guitar is my favorite instrument for this song.

Bass: Really easy on the bass.. pretty much long stretches of notes with changes here and there. It's all about how you use overdive for scoring here.

This is a cover song but one of the best covers on Rockband.

Bass Off. We should have some close scores this week. Use your overdrive wisely!

eRock out.. May the best Bass win...

Only got 2 bucks? Skip dinner on the value menu and get yourself the one RockBand DLC that everyone should have! I will be posting a weekly editorial highlighting the weeks biggest catch!

This Week -
Blue Sky - The Allman Brothers
If I thought it was difficult to choose the best single track from an entire album, it was even tougher to choose the best of 10 from such varying genres of music. Most of the tracks this week have a little something to offer and at least 4 of them were in serious consideration. Blue Sky is not without it's downside, but it's the best of the bunch. Here is why.....

Guitar - Easily the best part of this song. A solo that is probably about 50% of the song, but ooooh so satisfying. This is the solo that you wish was in Green Grass and High Tides. They charted the guitar melody in favor of the rhythm throughout the song as well. Thank God! There are some tricky HO/PO chords on the blue and orange keys. Very clever charting.

Bass - Fantastic Bass chart! No it's not overly difficult, and there is an underlying pattern there but the pattern alters itself just a little and in different ways with each new cycle. It never really feels like you are playing the exact same bass phrase twice. Typically, as soon as the guitar solo hits the bassline is restricted to a simple underlying pattern over and over so that the guitarist is spotlighted, but not here. This is where it really gets good and you are cutting a sweet groove right along with the solo.

Drums - This is a little tough for me to call as i'm not as skilled a drummer as i would like to be. It's an endurance run to be sure, and like the bassline, the underlying pattern is there but it seems to throw little switches at you so arbitrarily that you just can't predict what is coming. It owned me on expert, but not because it was too difficult of a beat. I failed for not having the endurance and stamina to pound that thing for the required length of time. Kind of like my x -girlfriend. I dropped it down to Hard and found it challenging and quite enjoyable. I'm sure the true expert drummers out there will let me know if my take on this is off.

Vocals - The shortcoming of the song here. If you like the song at all you won't mind it, but I'm thinking true RockBand vocalists will hate this one. It's not difficult at all and there is percussion for the entire guitar solo. Think 1% per every 2-3 hits and that is well over 200 smacks of the fake tambourine. The last 4 hits are slightly off beat as well. That's the toughest part of the vocal track and worth mentioning.

Party - This won't be a huge party hit, but may appeal to some older players if you are trying to get them into it. It's family friendly and has that universal classic rock appeal. There were definitely some more easily recognizable tracks this week that would play better at a party, but we all know that doesn't really make it fun to play. If you are vocalizing try and show that you can actually sing with this one. Guitarists will impress bystanders with the solo as it looks harder than it actually is.

Hope you enjoy this weeks edition of the $2 catch of the week. See you next week with my pick! A lot of variety next week as well. Kudos HMX! Remember mileage may vary per user, all opinions welcome. Please discuss.
