View Full Version : Cross-System Play

Has anyone brought up Cross-System online play? I mean, FFXI did it and it went pretty well...atleast until X-Box 360 [no offence to players, it's cuz of the mic thing] But between 360 and PS3 there won't be any problems with that cuz the game is the same thing. Also, wouldn't this bring more people together and end these ravaged console wars?

This has been brought up before. I think it would be a great idea. It could bring a lot of people together, and make creating a band even easier. The more people playing this game and competition you have, the more fun this game is going to be.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, when they create this game...the only thing that they may be able to make after this would be like...an 80's version with a synth board or something, ya know? The more people playing this together the funner it's gonna be. It would have to be some sort of lobby hosted by the creators not X-Box or PS3 that everyone would have to go through first instead of X-Boxs or PS3s lobbys. All I'm saying is it must be done even if it comes later in an update or something...if that is possible...

Yeah, but Microsoft and Sony hate eachother. Say they created cross-play. Now if your friend wants a PS3 and you have a 360, he can buy it without care thanks to cross-play. But Microsoft wouldn't want that, so buy keeping cross-play out, he would be forced into purchasing an Xbox instead.

The thing with FFXI was that xbox 360 owners still had to pay a monthly fee even though they have xbox live. in fact you could still play that game online without xbox live....just paying the 13 bucks a month for fees. That is the only way you can see cross platform play for two different consoles...if the servers are privately owned by the company that makes the game, not sony or microsoft

I don't think cross-play is even technologically possible at this point. Xbox Live and the PlayStation Online Network are two distinct systems and unless they somehow merged services, I don't see this as viable.

But what if my friend has a PS3 and I want a 360? It's a two-way street that could hurt or help sales of either system.

Which is why I say that they should make a Rock Band specific lobby which PS3 and X-Box people could log into and find others to play with on there.

cross-platform play between the consoles wouldn't actually be all that hard technologically...it would take some work of course, but that is beyond the point honestly.
Microsoft has Live locked down hard and is very strict about the content and such that is on it, while Sony seems to be lasse-fair about their online component (if a game dev wants dedicated servers, the game dev has to supply them, or the players have to host on their own lines...which is still better than Live since MS nor the devs that I know of supply any dedicated servers for gaming)
Sony MIGHT be willing to do something (as it can only help their sales), but Micromonopoly...they'll never ever never ever in a million years even consider such a thing.
So why not make Rock Band for PC then we could cross-platform at least with Xbox360 (though honestly, that is a total joke right now also)

We won't be able to support cross-platform play. The obvious issues have been covered - the two systems online structures aren't interoperable. I can't say with any authority that it is impossible to do but it is close enough to impossible that we won't be able to do it with this game.

here's the hitch, XBL uses P2P game hosting supportted by MS itself. PSN uses servers supportted by the game makers(at their cost as well). It's two very different systems.

Oh hell yeah. I think a lot of Harmonix folks are going to have online bands. I, for one, will be starting up two bands (at least) - 2 Busy 2 Blog (that'll be the one where I sing and get three people from the site to fill out the rest of the band) and my fake emo band Emasculated Tear. I can't wait to use the character creator for that. ;)

It's too bad there isn't cross platform potential, but that is more than understandable. I can't wait to play with/against Harmonix people in Rock Band though, thats going to be fun, just another reason to get this game.

I think that most certainly is one, it has a picture of each instrument in a circle...I hope that rockband.com starts selling merchandise!

BAH! I don't need to school those PS3 troublemakers anyways. This just hit me, is there going to be two ratings at the end of each song? Like one for each member and one for the over all band? You know, poke fun at the weakest link and all that?

Doesn't cross-play require the devs to provide their own online equipment and not Microsofts? Isn't that why the PS2 got so much heat?
Actually interestingly enough one of the only people that had the cash to support PS2 online was EA. Hmm...

you can join our band "Self-Cutting Pizza" or some such nonsense (my friends love making fun of the emo's)
you'll have to fight my girlfriend to sing though (though you got to be better than her haha)
