Microsoft has announced a new "Game of the Year" edition for its Xbox 360 Elite console. In addition to its top-of-the-line model, the bundle includes Halo 3 and Fable II (X-Play's Game of the Year for 2008 (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/691623/XPlay_Best_of_2008_Winners_List.html)).
In today's press release, Microsoft stated:
"Beginning in May, fans can enjoy the premium experience of Xbox 360 Elite with two highly-acclaimed Xbox 360 exclusive games, including 'Halo 3,' the thrilling conclusion of Master Chief’s epic fight against the Covenant and 'Fable II,' the masterful role-playing sequel with limitless choices and consequences. The Xbox 360 Game Of The Year Bundle will be available for a limited time and will come at no additional cost, estimated retail price at $399 (U.S.).
In addition to providing two of Xbox 360’s biggest blockbuster titles, the Xbox 360 Game Of The Year Bundle provides an incredible value with 120 GB of storage, a wireless controller, a wireless headset, an HDMI cable and a free Netflix trial."
If you happen to need a new Xbox 360 and haven't played these two excellent games then the Game of the Year Bundle is a fantastic way to go. That said, I'd bet that most Xbox 360 gamers that were interested in either title have already given them a shot, so this deal is most likely intended for new customers. The package is a great way for Microsoft to leverage a hugely popular brand like Halo to sell its most expensive model.
Last month I wrote about a rumor that Microsoft will be halting the production of the Xbox 360 Elite. (http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/693806/Xbox-360-Elite-Going-Bye-Bye.html) The rumor suggested that the company would be done with the model this quarter. A package like the Game of the Year Bundle works towards expunging existing inventory. Curious, hey?
