View Full Version : Versus Mode: Competitive Play

The great thing about the music and rhythm games is that you can compete against yourself (personal high score) and against someone else at the same time (more points at that moment).
That being said, I have not seen any comments on a versus mode implementation for the game.
Face-Off?
Pro Face-Off?
Can a 2nd set of drums be connected for Drum vs. Drum Face-Off?
Likewise for the guitars and microphone.
Is this feature being planned?
Online competition is great, but talking trash and throwing food at someone in the same room as you is great as well.
Side note: If indeed these modes are playable, have you considered the additions to the modes that GH3 is promising? Broken string or something, etc. ?

Check Dan's blog (http://www.rockband.com/index.php?do=/public/blog/view/id_315/) for the answers to some of these questions.

So, there's massive amounts of footage of the game online now and we've announced 16 songs, including the first of our albums and our Metallica deal. But, did you notice:
* That at the end of the EA press conference, Alex places the (real) drumsticks into a handy drumstick holder at the top of the kit?
* That we announced head-to-head competition for all instruments?
* That Joystiq currently has an awesome video of a room full of jaded journalists singing along to "Wanted Dead or Alive"?
* That all the Harmonix employees brought their own wardrobe? That's why it's handy having the majority of the people working here in real life bands.
E3 was massive, and even though we were expecting to make a big impact, it doesn't really sink in until you're watching TV footage of Peter Moore standing in an ampitheater playing bass with people you work with every day, or watching video of thirty journalists coming into a private hotel room in order to play some more Rock Band after the show has finished for the day, or watching Morgan Webb fall to her knees in an evening dress while rocking out on a Strat.
It's incredibly surreal.
We're slaving away getting the game ready to ship right now. I'm working on the Band World Tour, balancing the various economies and statistics that you need when simulating a band experience, as well as working with our awesome lead audio guy Eric Brosius (yes, that Eric Brosius) on working out a difficulty curve for the Solo Tour.
I have a question for you though, dear Internet - where are you pre-ordering your copies of Rock Band? While we're lucky here at Harmonix to be getting our own copies of the game and controllers, my friends are looking for a place to pre-order that will put them in a "first pre-ordered, first serverd" queue, but won't be jerks if the real price is different from the guesstimate prices. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the info, that is great news. I was under the impression that the game wasn't as far along as the blog states. That is great news.
Hmxsean, are you a developer, forum mod, or a mixture of both? Thank you for all the upfront information and posts.

I am the manager of community development. I used to be a tech artist and before that QA.

Please no, that stuff looks not very good, and detracts from the core music game experience.
Dan announced head-to-head, presumably offline and online, for all instruments, and that is everything I could ask for.

I still think there should be like a dodge button to dodge bottles that are thrown at you if you are sucking.
Or possibly an Axl Rose inspired fighting mini-game.
