hey guys,
hows it going?? i just wanted to introduce myself, and im glad to know that i found this forum...
totally excited! very FIRST post, anyways...i just got rock band not too long ago, because its seems its been a VERY popular game and now that things have become more 'interactive' i guess , from the wii and all that sort of stuff i decided i'd get into playing rock band. previously i played it at my cousins house and saw how fun it looked
ive never played any sort of musical instrument whatsoever, so i found it very difficult at the beginning, LOL! i think i'm actually pretty un-co at it to put it straight.
i couldnt do the guitar any justice, but i've had a little bit of success at playing drums, and have decided to stick at it, once again still un-co and also NO sense of rythm...LOL!
i want to be able to get REALLY good at this, and i'm sure that i can, i think i really need to get a deeper understanding of music i guess to really get a gist of things. if there's anything out there that you guys can suggest...other than practice would be AWESOME! ive thought about going into music instrument shops and watching other people play real drums and see if i cant get anything from them to become better at this, aswell as even getting some music lessons if i need to.
i know its only a game, and its ALL about fun, at the same time, i wanna be good at this..
anyways, thanks So much
hope to hear from you guys soon

Welcome to RB and the forums! :)
As for getting better, that will come as you play more. And playing more is easy because the game is so addictive.

Welcome. :)
Some good advice for when you start reaching the harder songs is to crank the TV up and play to the music. Just let the visuals guide your hands and feet, but it's a lot easier to play to the audio, especially when you start getting into rolls on the drums.
Some people will tell you to stick it out on a difficulty until you can pass each song incredibly well, but my advice is to get to about feeling comfortable on tier 4 (where the difficulty bubbles have 4 dots filled in, like this (http://www.myrockbandsongs.com/manager/images/4.png)), then ramp it up to the next difficulty and start at tier zero (completely black, these ones (http://www.myrockbandsongs.com/manager/images/0.png)). For drums, you won't do much learning outside of limb independence on the lower difficulties. I'd say 80% of the songs on Hard don't prepare you for what they're going to be like on Expert (the most common example being Everlong - Hard Everlong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuApaLGbfls), Expert Everlong (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gt_z72hkH0)), so the sooner you get to Expert to do the "real learning," in my opinion, the better.
I was stuck at around a tier 3-4 range on Expert for a long time. I feel at that point it just takes a lot of practice and mastery of the standard beats, and various non-standard or off-beat patterns to eventually carry over into what you'll find in the more difficult tier 4s up through tier 6s (the top tier, devil horns (http://www.myrockbandsongs.com/manager/images/6.png)). One piece of advice I have for getting better is play with a band that will keep you alive and struggling, rather than playing a song solo only to hit a wall and fail every time. You'll do more learning experiencing the beat and working on the muscle memory than just becoming frustrated and dying immediately when the "hard part" shows up and not getting to experience riding through it, albeit painfully.

Hey welcome to the forums - definitely make use of practice mode while you're getting started - also, ask friends that you play with for their tips and tricks. Sometimes watching someone do something in person goes a looong way towards helping you figure out how to change or better your own techniques.

You don't need musical knowledge to do well at Rock Band. I mean, it helps a bit to have a sense of timing, if on vocals a sense of pitch, and so on. But you can easily develop those over time just by playing the game.
One thing I'd recommend is to make sure your game is properly calibrated. If it's not calibrated, you could be hitting things on time (according to the audio) but it might count as a miss because the video is off, or vice versa. There's a great video on YouTube that shows how to get the best calibration, a papercraft vid. Someone can link to it if they haven't already.
Welcome to the forums for the greatest full band rhythm game ever.
