Metallica is overrated....
Megadeth is leagues better, Dave has better subject matter.

Dave has a much better Metal voice, especially now. Dave is a better guitarist than James, and all the other guitarists MEgadeth has had can easily outdo Kirk.

Every Megadeth drummer blows Lars away, especially Gar. When it comes to early Metal Gar is the only drummer who could come close to Dave Lombardo.

Only thing Metallica EVERY had on Megadeth was Cliff.

Did I mention that Kirk IMO uses a terrible tone? I can't stand it, given guitar tones I might like Metallica more if James was the lead guitarist

Please, Dave's voice is horrible. You can't say his voice sounds metal when it sounds like he just woke up from a long nap. Jame's voice has changed from what it used to be, but it's still better than Dave's.

Anyway, Megadeth is constantly changing line ups. Complain all you want about how you can find better guitarist and drummers, at least Metallica likes to stick to a group as often as possible. If Metallica is a family then Megadeth is a broken home.

Doesn't make them a better band.
Fall Out Boy is better than Metallica by that logic

Second of all, you prefer James voice why?
I like Dave's because it's more rough IMO it fits Megadeth's sound very well too.

Seriously? How does that fit my logic? Mustaine searches everywhere for new people, just so he can stay in the limelight. I'm 100% sure Metallica has heard criticism of their music, I'm sure James could have dropped Kirk and Lars a long time ago, but they've stuck together through everything and each time they piss Dave off just a little more. And for this they work together much better than if James searched for new drummers and guitarist every two years.

I like James voice because it has somewhat of a blues tone to it. Dave's voice is like a shredder playing in the background of a wailing guitar.

I sense a flame-fest in the near future... But yeah. I voted Megadeth.

Please note, I love both of these bands. I think both bands have quite a bit of talent (going against the "Metallica isn't talented" standard) and I enjoy BOTH Mustaine's and Hetfield's singing.

An instrumental Megadeth may be pretty cool. Dave can finally make a song and not have to worry where to put a solo.

Heh, you clearly have no clue about Megadeth.
James and Dave have actually made up, they're actually good friends now, at a Megadeth concert Dave saw a sign saying "**** Metallica" and Dave stopped the show and asked them to put it down or leave.

Second of all, working well together and making good music are two different things. IMO Megadeth has made better music overall there are two Metallica albums I enjoy, Ride the Lightning and Kill Em All. I enjoy from Megadeth

UA, Countdown to Extinction, Rust in Peace, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, Killing is my Business and Business is Good and Youthanasia..

That was clearly a joke-as for some kid bringing up the **** Metallica poster and Dave stopping it, I never heard of that-But I will believe you.

I guess what it comes down is that you like more Megadeth and I like more Metallica.

I like Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, Black Album and Death Magnetic and a couple of bootlegs I downloaded (Cliff's Last Gig in Stockholm is awesome.)

And I only like two Megadeth albums Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? (Which I bought immediately and praised when it was announced-really good job HMX, we need more of these.) and Rust in Peace (Which would also be awesome for album DLC, their best album IMO.)

I've come to the conclusion over the years that Metallica and Megadeth have evened each other out. When Metallica first started with Kill Em' All through to The Black Album, Metallica was better than Megadeth. When Metallica released Load through to St. Anger, Megadeth was better during that time. Now, Death Magnetic was better than United Abominations (minus the bad quality). So, overall, I couldn't pick which one is better since I love them both.

If this was solely based on musical talent(s), it would be a very close contest. Megadeth would have a pretty good chance of winning.

If it is solely based on historical popularity/fanbase/sales, Metallica would win in a landslide.

If it was based on who has alientated the least number of fans (due to lots of factors...including, ironically, their popularity), Megadeth walks away easy.

Since we are on the RB forums (whom Megadeth has clearly chosen to "partner-up" with, so to speak), Megadeth will make a pretty good showing -- or even win this little poll.

How about a four night festival? Each band headlines their own night and choose the bands that open for them that day.

1st Night: Anthrax with Enter bands here
2nd Night: Slayer with Enter bands here
3rd Night: Megadeth with Enter bands here
4th Night: Metallica with Enter bands here

Change order as you see fit.

That may work, there's no way you can have those 4 bands play one night together. It would have to be a huge venue, like MSG or something. The way you have it could work. That'll be pretty damn cool to see.

That, and it's almost impossible to open up for Slayer. As much as I like the other acts Slayer's fans are total hardcore and would be shouting Slayer throughout the entire set list. (I'm sure that would piss a lot of people off.) The 4 day schedule is good too because you can always take a day off. Don't like Anthrax? Don't go to the first show.

This reminds me of the thread that touted Deep Purple to be superior to Led Zeppelin.

Someone had a very articulate (and lengthy) list of supporting evidence, but in the end, I still suspected that it had more to do with Led Zeppelin "being stingy" with their music (especially when it comes to rhythm games)....like Metallica has been known to be.

seriously, about the whole "lars is a bad drummer!!!oneone11" thing, two points:

if lars is such a "sucky" drummer, do this for me, get your drumset, play a couple of songs on video, put them on youtube, i want to see them, if you are hands down, better than lars, then sure, your point is valid. if not, stfu. [excluding JohnTheDrummer, i know he's better than lars :p]

second, lars is the best drummer metallica could have. lars works with metallica so well, and if it were'nt for him and cliff, metallica would most likely not be where they are today. you need to remember, metallica is a metal band/hard rock band, and lars' drums fit perfectly with every song they put out. if you were to add crazy ass fills and crazy double bass to a metallica song [excluding the few that do have crazy fills/double bass] it wouldn't sound right imo.

so next time you wanna talk shiz about lars, i wanna see you start a band and have them be as successful as metallica, just like lars did, then i will bow to you and your opinion will be vaild in my eyes.

As a pretty die-hard Metallica fan, I am perfectly willing to concede that instrument-for-instrument, Megadeth could be easily argued as superior....except for vocals.

I know a lot of people think that Dave's lyrics are 'more meaningful' or 'more socially pertinent', and I suppose I wouldn't argue with that. But, to me, he ends up sounding 'overly wordy'....like he is sacrificing rhyme-scheme and/or melody in favor of blunt and over-literate lyrics.

Metallica lyrics = poetry (usually, let's not talk about Frantic, mmmkay)
Megadeth lyrics = chemistry thesis - accurate and concise, but not really fun to listen to, IMHO, of course.

However, to see so many people say "Metallica sucks" is just asinine. I don't have a problem with people preferring Megadeth, but come on now. They definitely got back to their roots with Death Magnetic; it's not their best work IMO, but it's pretty darn good. I would support a Punk contest...

Dead Kennedy's are my favorite, and it would really pain me if they went up against a more influential band like The Clash or Ramones :(
