Do you rock out for real, do you find odd switching from real to a plastic controller?
Whats your bands name, played any good gigs lately. Post Your artwork. That sort of thing.

My last "band" epic failed in the practice stage because people claimed to be able to play instrument they couldn't really play...
just because you own a bass doesn't mean you can play it.
But I think me and someone else are putting something together. I play guitar, bass, and I do vocals... any tips on getting started from someone here who has (I know theres a Zine article, but any stories?)

I'm looking to get into a band. I can play the drums well enough to actually play some songs that aren't uber easy. I can also play a little bit of guitar but I'm pretty weak at it. My brother also plays the drums and is probably on the same skill level as me. I have loads of friends who can play either guitar or drums, few bass players. I'm not sure how to go about vocals. I would like to actually take some vocal lessons to make my singing better but the vocal instructor at my area's local music place is a forty-something woman who probably hasn't listened to a lick of heavy metal. I digress.

They always do... does it seem like the amount of metal bands in high schools is out of control? I love metal..... but c'mon...

Since when did I say that the band was metal?
Anyway, the singer sounds worse than the Jonas Brothers...trust me, you do NOT want to know. x_X

There are two bands at my school, and both are horrible "pop-punk"(the stupidest genre ever) with no musical talent or ability to hold a steady beat for half a minute.
They play nothing but songs from Rock Band. Because those are the only songs they've ever heard.
Everybody in the school loves them.
I've been playing guitar since summer last year, and even though I can play a bunch of songs and I can improvise a decent solo on the spot, I've only spent my time jamming with my cousin. I would form a band if anybody I knew knew how to play an instrument that isn't guitar.

Yes, I am in a band called Beneath The Shadows. We're hard rock/metalcore/alternative metal/nu-metal i guess. I am the lead guitarist and backing vocalist. I do find it odd to play the chord progressions in RB without moving off the first 5 frets of the guitar, whereas on a real guitar, chords are more spread out more. Also, the odd chord shapes in RB are annoying. The green, red, yellow chord is odd to play coming from a real guitarists perspective since that is not a usual chord shape on a real guitar.

If you're in high school, I would try joining the jazz band or something. A buddy of mine (who was in our band at the time, but not anymore), met our guitarist though a guitar workshop class, and I met our bassist through jazz band.

I know what you mean. My friend who will playing bass (actually play, not the kid who didn't know anything) is always a high chair in the jazz band with his stand-up bass. He plays an eletric just as well

I've tried SEVERAL times to start one up but it always falls through. Seems I'm the only one with any sort of motivation. Our last singer was doing it to get chicks (he left after he realized we weren't becoming famous immediately) our last "bassist" couldn't play bass, our last drummer was 12 so he could never get together with us (he was REALLY good though). it was pretty miserable. I've got a two man project going right now that looks like it'll be alright, two guitarists and a drum machine :p We've done a lot of Senses Fail covers and written 5 or 6 songs, so that's several steps further than we usually get lol
Lately i've been recording some covers solo (lots of layering in audacity) but i can never seem to write original material when I'm alone. I have to get together with people and pool ideas for anything good to come.
Just today I recorded Lazy Eye lol the solos are actually really easy, but they kept tripping me up (I was just kinda reading from a tab i found as the song played. didn't feel like investing the time to learn it by ear)

Haven't seen any famous bands in here yet - I think those who are stating their band in the poll as "Famous" are referring to how famous they are at their local high school.
Although my former band played for 15 years across NA, we never broke that ceiling that got us the recognition we hoped for, and dreamt of since we were kids.
But we still jam to this day, although none of us have the desire to deal with the BS of playing live anymore. After losing our singer to a car accident, it took the wind out of our sails. I'm just happy jammin' with my family and my students, and watching the next generation of hopefuls pull out all the stops.

Some dude from Indiana (700 miles away from us, and we've never played there) told me he randomly heard some kids in his high school walking down the hall talking about my band.
Does that push us into the "Famous" category? ;)

Well, I'm in a band, but it's nothing serious. We've only played one or two gigs as of yet. I'd get my solo project going but space is tight and I don't have any decent recording equipment.
