Guitar compatibility is great, but is there any hope of the upcoming patch fixing the broken "Players Met" feature?

That and voice chat--both of which are built into PSN--would be ideal, but I'd be really surprised if it happens at this point: it would have to have been on the drawing board at the time the game went gold.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. With how quickly the guys at Harmonix responded to the GH3 guitar issue, I'd be surprised if this wasn't at least on their list of things to look at in the future. Whether that's in the next month or next six months, I don't know.

Guess it's all a matter of "what's the most important issue that can be done within reasonable time". I'm sure it's on their list but it all depends on the work involved.

By voice chat, do you mean being able to hear the other people sing or having a headset separate from your instrument that allows you to communicate with other players?
Is the 360 version also having these issues?

did i miss something? they didnt release a patch for the ps3 version, allowing the gh3 guitar to work did they? or are you just commenting on how fast they acknowledged an issue

Ability to chat via a headset, like you do in FPS games. 360 is not having that issue (I think it's actually impossible to get your game certified on the XBox without it).
Voice chat is part of the Sony OS just like it's part of the XBox OS, it's just that Microsoft forces game developers to make it available, and Sony doesn't. For some reason, Harmonix didn't use it.
xlr8shun - Yeah, cool, huh? Hopefully it'll be out very soon. My guess is that it got stuck in Sony's distribution pipeline somehow, though that's really a complete guess.

What is the deal with the patch that was supposed to come today? They decide to tell us all hours ago, and yet we still sit here waiting without any update.
At the very least they should give us an update about when it might be out, if it all today.

I think that inital post that the PS3 patch would be out "today" (2 days ago) should have come on April 1. That was a very mean trick :(
(Yes I understand that they meant well, and stuff happens. At least we got an update on the situation.)

I just checked the PlayStation store - wasn't updated yet.
Half of North America seems to think that Home Beta will be out today. Since the store hasn't updated yet there might actually be hope for it.
I'm not holdin my breath for it though. Apparently Sony doesn't think more beta testers using the product will be beneficial.

I wasn't being pessimistic--I was being realistic, from a software development perspective.
If Harmonix wasn't already well on the way to getting Voice Chat and Players Met implemented before the game went gold, and they didn't have it ready as part of the 1.01 patch, it would really surprise me to find out it is implemented in this new patch. The word out of HMX only specifies that it's a "routine patch" and that it "handles controller compatibility issues." I think it's stretching it to expect even a handful of new features will be implemented.

oh, well, yeah, I didn't expect it to be in *this* patch, I just think it's likely they'll try to get it in another patch sometime hopefully in the next couple of months.

I know the HMX guys scan these threads, and I just want to say that you converted at least one upset fan (me) with your timely 'jumping on the ball' of the controller issues.
And I don't mind not having the patch exactly yet, now that we know it's at least coming.
Folks who are impatient, chill out, we *know* they are working on it, which is shades better than wondering if they *are* working on it.
C Wut I Meen?
that is all.

The compatibility patch is a touchy issue right now because we're trying to figure out exactly what is going on. We don't want people to get nervous or to freak out or anything :p so we've been locking up those threads until we have some official word.
Stick to Demon_Slayer's original topic please:

Voice Chat is almost an imperative with this game if you are a vocalist. I can't tell you how many times I've had to drop out of on-line play due to players picking a song that I did not know. It's not that I didn't want to play, it's that I didn't want to kill off the on-line band by trying to get through a song that I just didn't know.
On-line chat would remedy that.
As for Players Met - I agree this should also have been implemented. I can't tell you how many FANTASTIC players I've jammed with on-line only to forget to write down their user ID so that I could add them to my friends/invite list.
In regards to the compatibility patch I don't understand why HMX has gone all CIA on this? What's the big secret that makes this so volitale? It's just a "routine patch".

While the PS3 version is good, they missed a lot of stuff. Voice chat, Players Met, ability to back-up the save file. Seem likes they got a bit lazy or ran out of time for the PS3 version. Luckily, it can always be patched.

Perhaps Sony is bringing some pressure towards the developers? I mean, if you had the choice now to purchase this game for the Xbox or for the PS3 which would you have gone with??????
I LOVE my PS3 and I don't care for the XBox since most of the titles are "M"'s.
Personally, I think the console creators that have their act most together is Nintendo. They watch EVERYTHING like hawks and are VERY picky about what they will allow on their system AND they won't allow games to be released until all of the bugs have been worked out - for example the over 6 month delay in releasing Super Smash Brothers Brawl. I'll take the delay over getting a game that doesn't fully function any day.

Umm, Smash Bros. is a totally different scenario. That is developed by Nintendo. Rock Band is not developed by Sony.

As I am a software developer, I understand exactly why they're doing this. It's common practice because customers are demanding and you don't promise something that you can't deliver.
It's clear that they are working on a patch. A last-minute bug was probably found, which means they need to do their whole QA process over again. If another bug is found, it will be delayed again.
The cardinal rule here is to underpromise and overdeliver, instead of the reverse. Customers are ruthless (just look at this board) if their expectations are not met.
Give HMX a break. They'll get a patch out, everyone's Les Paul will work, and everyone will be happy.

Except that they already promised it. Either way, we should stay away from that topic as it will surely get this thread locked if we continue to discuss it.

As much as I love Rock Band and am impressed with their willingness to jump on the Les Paul issue, I do have to agree that they missed the boat on feature parity for the PS3.
Those social aspects are what everyone applauds the XBox for, but how can the PS3 compete if the devs don't use the tools the PS3 gives them? All that stuff is implemented in the PS3 OS just like it is on the XBox. The only difference is that Microsoft won't allow you to get certified without them and Sony will.
Given that this is primarily a multiplayer, party game, such social features should have been very high on the priority list. I don't understand how Harmonix let them slip like that.
I, too, am hoping for a patch to implement this stuff soon.

If they do indeed patch the main issue I have had (Les Paul), or a combination of any other requests about fixing the game, I will be the first to post a full apology to HMX for stating they dont care. Until I am proven wrong, however, I still regard them as no better than used car salesmen who states nothing definitively informative, useful, and perhaps even true.
Go ahead and lock this now becuase we express issues with your PR practices, or lack thereof.

There's no need to be so harsh. They're not locking threads because we express dissatisfaction with their PR practices. They lock threads because speculation and misinformation run wild and there's really nothing more to say until we hear from Harmonix.
They made a mistake in that they announced the patch before it was definitively available. However, I would not say that they were lying, simply ran into unexpected problems.
This thread is not about that patch. It's about the other missing features that we want Harmonix to support on the PS3, namely
Voice Chat in online multiplayer
Players Met feature
backing up our game save data
And probably some other things we haven't thought of yet :)

This is an interesting post to consider as a thread is coming close to completion. You made an unconstructive and inflammatory statement, the exact kind of thing that typically adds up to a thread closure, but the you follow it with a non sequitor about the the thread being closed because of your criticism.
If I went to the park and started talking about how my freedom of expression was being suppressed and finished by kicking a little kid in the shins. When the cops came and arrested me, does it really mean that my freedom of expression was suppressed, or does it mean I'm a jerk for kicking a kid in the shins. I'm betting on jerk.
Most of this thread is great conversation, but it's just a little more suited to the General thread. I encourage someone to restart a similar discussion there, I'm going to leave this one in place. (Albeit, closed.)
