Why are there no videos of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic?
monkeyfish
11-02-2009, 11:56 PM
Lotta videos are missing right now, but that's not saying much since the game isn't even officially released yet. Youtube doesn't want to work for me at the moment, anyways...
On a completely offtopic note: what happened to Flawless? The lovable little scamp was banned for something...?

Europe was metal, why is that funny?
They might be considered glam/hair metal, but glam metal's relation to actual metal is similar to nu-metal's.
Their sound bears no relation to metal, and if their song is filed under metal you might as well put Bon Jovi songs in there too. In fact, I'd say both of them would be best suited in pop-rock, because that's what they are.
EDIT: They put A-Punk under just "rock", too? hahaha oh wow.

You make sacrifices when your game is missing a hair metal genre. There's worse genre issues, move on.

Personally I've never even noticed that repeated single note being played throughout the chorus (though I don't dispute it's there), and I think it was a poor decision to chart it rather than the more prominent and more interesting other guitar.

It sounds to me like guitar and bass playing the same thing.

Now I want this song to actually be in Rock Band at some point, for the reason pointed out in the comments section of the video (the 2:46 mark sounds like music from Pokemon Stadium and other Pokemon games). Being a huge Pokemon junkie and all.

I don't think it's only bass. If you look at live recordings (and I know bands often play things differently live so it's not definitive proof) the guitar and bass both play that part, and they omit the single note that's charted in L:RB

It could very well be an accident. A file from next week's DLC got updated with the wrong date. Heck, it could be a song from RBN that got put in the wrong category too.
If this song was in game, it would've been found by now. But the game has always been billed as "45 songs", which to me means no hidden tracks. When there's a hidden track, it's usually included in the final song count but simply left out in track listings (ex: "The End")

There may have been certain small print with the relicensing of these songs initially for the export onto RB2... it may not be as simple as the songs were "not" deemed family friendly

Maybe because the Tom Petty line isn't used more than once. The Killers line is said during every chorus. There was something similar for the usage of "damn" between El Scorcho and a Fall Out Boy song.

It could be ten, but then again, I can't remember half an hour since a quarter to four.
Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa, and you leave me with my jaw on the floor.
But here it goes again.
Oh, here it goes again.
It starts out easy, something simple, something sleazy, something inching past the edge of reserve.
Now through the lines of the cheap venetian blinds your car is pulling off of the curb.
Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa, and you leave me, yeah, you leave me.
Suggestive one-night stand much?

The OK Go song also features Jesus as a cuss word (but Jesus, when it rains, how it pours);
Orange Crush has adult lyrics (high on the booze in a tent paved with blood; all this here country, hell ANY country);
New PORNOGRAPHERS (nuff said);
"When You Were Young" --- dunno....could be objections to religious imagery (he doesn't look a thing like Jesus; the devil's water ain't so sweet); or it could just be simply a non sequitur (8-year olds singing about when they were young....lawlz)
"Learn to Fly" -- probably "I need a devil to help me get things right"

Countered: "Loves Jesus and America too" -- Free Fallin', LRB disc.
This is why the conversation is pointless. There could be any number of things going on.
Songs may not be finished getting approved, certain songs may have hit licensing issues. Who knows.
But there's no clear-cut "No-no" when it comes to what is keeping songs out. It's not simply "One talks about violence or mentions Jesus", it's the context wrapped around the song...taken into consideration with the ENTIRE set of lyrics.

If you ask me, several on-disc songs contain lyrics/themes that some seemingly harmless DLC was possibly cut for. We just have no idea what's going on, really.

Just checked the Lego Rock Band page at Xbox.com and all of this week's DLC has passed the filter.

Those tiers are for LEGO only. If you export them the tiers change to the RB2 format. You can check them out on the http://www.rockband.com/music page.
EDIT* Here's the link to "You Give Love a Bad Name" link (http://www.rockband.com/songs/yougiveloveabadname)
Notice how the tiering is different.

Hopefully this will change, but I'm a little disheartened that only one Offspring song was deemed family friendly, and none of the Green Day songs were either.
Apparently the 2 kings of pop punk aren't pop enough.

That song is on there. Casto21 scraped the list again last night. Let me go get it.
Edit: 351 total songs as of today. That's not including any Country/Metal track pack exclusives or RB1 export tracks.
Body I Occupy appeared between the time I posted and when you did. It's now at 342 songs, at least for me.

Looking at the tiers, Lego Rock Band lowers the thresholds pretty silly. Rio gets labeled as Impossible tier Guitar and Drums. At least My Generation is no longer undertiered on Bass.
Sadly I won't buy this because it's a stand-alone isolated game for Wii.

Yeah, that is unfortunate and the only reason I have not bought The Beatles. It’s too bad the group who is converting the game to the Wii can’t figure out how to get the songs onto the card…

See, I'd rather the game have been delayed than have same-day release without DLC support.

No matter. If the PS3 has any way at all to delete exported songs, this one is out of there no matter how much work it might take.

Isn't it great when you go to the retailer and they have all these used GH games and RB track packs? You know, the ones that the people export and then return to the store immediately?
I can't wait until retailers get tired of that.

We Will Rock You" is a classic Queen track. But the bass line and drums are literally the same three notes repeated and the guitar doesn't even come in until the last 30 seconds.
They chart the thumping to guitar.

IGN is biased about as badly as a site can be. They have a "music" section for rhythm games but only Guitar Hero products are featured. Thus, you can add about one point to that to get a fair review and subtrack about 0.5 from Band Hero to get a fair score...

I think it's a fair review. This game is very flawed. With no online, or leaderboards, and only 45 songs, it's not a great value compared to Band Hero.
Keep in mind IGN also gave Guitar Hero Van Halen a 4.9.

They said that Band Hero had great animations. Since this is the same engine as GH5, I have to disagree, as GH5 has rather Uncanny Valley-esque animations.

There's really not that much value to L:RB. You're paying $50 for a game with 45 songs on disc. Plus, its obviously targeted to the people that already own Rock Band 2 since its a disc only product. You need to already own the peripherals. Therefore, the DLC importing into this game doesn't add much value.

There's actually a lot of value.
45 new songs, support for a large cross-section of DLC, and new customization features making use of the LEGO franchise.
It's unfortunate that people want to try and write this off as some kind of Track Pack just to justify their attempts to steal an export code.

45 new songs, support for a large cross-section of DLC, and new customization features making use of the LEGO franchise.
No, there really isn't.
-it has no online features
-you can't play all your dlc in it
-only 45 songs
-no challenges
-it's literally a skin swap of RB2
-doesn't include features added in Beatles: RB (such as pause countdown)
-certain songs can't be played in playlists with others (songs by featured artists)
by contrast, Band Hero includes everything new in GH5, is fully featured and has 20 more songs.

There's really not that much value to L:RB.
Well if you think of it in terms of DLC, you're getting 45 songs ($90 worth of DLC) for only $50 (or $60 if you export)

I'll add to this.
$60 in Canada instead of $50. Export is another $10 and I'm already supposed to pay full price for the game?
The DLC import does not provide much value. Its marketed towards people and families who already own RB2, since you need another set of peripherals to play this game (disc only release). They would have already been playing this DLC.
@MostSpartan15: That argument is flawed when you think of the fact that I only want 10-15 songs off this game to play. So, I'm supposed to pay $70 for 15 songs?

I wasn't really trying to argue anything. I was just saying when you think of the value in terms of songs, it's a very good value. Of course if you don't want all the songs it isn't a good value, but that could be said about any music game.
If you look at the value in terms of features, I'd agree with you that it isn't a good value compared to RB2.

Just because its called an argument doesn't mean we're really arguing. Just discussion.
I'd also say that Rock Band 2's setlist catered more towards an older crowd, which plays into it.

"Literally a skin swap of RB2"....yeah, because we all have skeletons, Frankensteins, cows and penguins as characters in RB2. And, of course, we can build vehicles in RB2. And, of course, we all love the pirate ship and haunted house venues prominently featured in RB2. And the Rock Den. And hiring Roadies and Entourage members. And Super-Easy mode (including Autokicking drums) for the kiddies. And challenges featuring ghostbusting, giant dinosaurs and octopi, and building demolition.
Yeah, all of that stuff is in RB2.

The reason there's no online play for LEGO has been discussed ad infinitum in this very thread.
Quite simple: the game is for kids. Online play is full of jerks who think they're "special" when they drop f-bombs like they're going out of style. Ergo, no parent wants their kids to go online to play with such inbreds.

I agree that Band Hero is more or less a skin-swap of GH5, but considering that GH5 has more features than RB2 AND Lego: Rock Band, it begs the question why almost nothing was done to implement more new features so long between the two Rock Band releases.

I agree; it's really cool how you can customize every aspect of the band, from the hangout area to your staff (including things like interns and your manager)! And studs aren't even that hard to come by.
EDIT: @Cherokeesam: VERY likely. I recreated my entire RB2 band nearly to a T in almost no time at all. The only thing is that at first you won't have any yellow faces to match the default yellow skin on the clothing of the character.

good job (kind of) addressing only two of my points.
The character stuff is aesthetic, i.e. a "skin swap". Super Easy and auto-kick are useless for most, especially because there's already a no-fail option.

Just because random online play is full of nincompoops, it doesn't mean that there needs to be no online play whatsoever. What about only allowing friends? And there's no leaderboards, which is another online feature that adds replay value.
There's no getting around that this game is a step back from both RB2 and TB:RB (especially TB:RB), feature-wise. The only thing it really has "more" of is clothes and backgrounds. Like I said, Band Hero has all the features of GH:5, and 20 more songs. LRB isn't a bad game, but it doesn't do much to establish itself as much more than a track pack.

Okay, call me dense, but I know in RB2 I created my entire band, and could play with a completely custom band by myself. It seems here that I'm given random RB minifigs to fill out the instruments that aren't turned on. How do I go about choosing the characters for band members that aren't human.
Basically, I'm asking how do I change the CPU characters in my band from the default random ones?

It all depends on what clothes your characters were using (if they're wearing something not worn by one of the session musicians you're out of lucky mostly) and if they didn't use makeup or tattoos. Then you should be fine.

I bought the game at gamestop today. It's ok but I'm thinking about returning it. They have a 7 day full refund policy for new opened items.
If I don't change my mind by Friday, it's going back. (I'm keeping the export code though).
If there were a demo for it, I would never have bought it.
sorry for all the negative comments but I was really disappointed. I knew what I was expecting and it was lower than that.

Just out of curiosity, what about it don't you like? If you liked RB2, I don't see how you couldn't like this? The gameplay is exactly the same (At least they seem the same, I don't have the game yet so I don't know what's different).

It's kind of RBU on a DS.
Sort of, there's a few differences though. The largest being that all four tracks are running at all times (unlike RBU, where you would play a track for a few seconds and move on to the next). Another being that you can over strum without ending your multiplier. However, if you don't play a track for a while, the musician will stop "smiling", and you will break your multiplier.
All of the musicians from the console game seem to be in, I played as Blur, Bowie, and Queen. But on the DS you can make them play songs that are not their own (so you can fulfill your dreams of Queen playing "So What").
I noticied that there is a lot of outfits in the store, with the same options as the console (hair, hats, pants, shirts, ect.)
The sound quality is great for a DS title, but even a top, the volume is really low, even for a DS game.
Challenges play somewhat different than regular gameplay, in the song Ghostbusters, a ghost flew in and was flying around some LEGO guy. Also, you can only play one track during a challenge, but it switches between all four instruments.
Also, I forgot to mention that solos are handled the same way they were in Rock Band Unplugged.
I know that you can play the game on the touch screen too. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll get around to it.

A significant portion of the clothes are recognizeable, though the ability to mainpulate colors is a bit lacking (most stuff that had two changeable colors only have one)
The names arent' the same, but if you have your band's look you can get a feel for what is replacing what.
Of course, some of the more suggestive outfits aren't around anymore. But as you unlock more characters you get their gear added to the store as well.
The only other drawback is the pale face vs. yellowish face parts that REALLY stand out when you pair them together.

WAIT WAIT WAIT, the game is allowed to do this?
It just picked a locked DLC song (Under Pressure) in a random setlist...
I knew they would do DLC songs (it's happened to me more often than not so far) but I'm surprised it picked a Queen song. Did Queen play it, or your band?
Also, so far whenever I've played a Bowie song, Bowie sings, but the rest of my band is replaced by a the same "session musician" minifigs that were in the Bowie trailer. Can't understand why I can't keep playing as my own guitarist there.

They are going to sell it used anyway. And I have to pay a restocking fee.
Just out of curiosity, what about it don't you like? If you liked RB2, I don't see how you couldn't like this? The gameplay is exactly the same (At least they seem the same, I don't have the game yet so I don't know what's different).
I don't know exactly. It feels like something is missing in the game. The songs are great but I don't know how to describe it.
Not disappointed enough to steal the export code though.
I'm pretty sure they are aware of the export code and will not let you return it without it.
Fine everyone, IF I return the game, I will also return the code.
I could always trade it in used and get around $20. Then they won't care about the export code.

No clue. Had a mad crazy fit of nostalgia when I saw it unlock though, that was probably my favorite Lego piece when I was a kid! I have no idea what happened to it, but that shark ate more terrified swimmers than Jaws.
My latest theory is that it might be a microphone for the vocalist, but I haven't checked yet.

Yeah, whatever guidelines they used to pick what made it seem weird. Who Are You and Magic Bus were dropped, but Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley made it in.
I guess fighting for a cause is better than fighting in a bar, and that an entire thinly veiled song about drug use is better than blatantly shouting "THEY'RE ALL WASTED!"

I'm definitely excited as well, although the 45 songs thing is probably one of my only cons.
TB:RB can get away with 45 because it's a band specific game targeted at just Beatles fans. People who get the game will probably love all or most of the songs. However, with something like LEGO there's variety which means less songs leads to people saying "eh, I only like 10-15 songs", etc as seen here on the forums.

Yeah possibly. Although you could argue that 45 songs from the one artist is boring no? I mean, if 45 is not much, why only 45 from one artist? I dont know, im sure any setlist is hit or miss (See what i did there? C,mon HMX NFG!) but i personally love the setlist and think that the 45 on disc is better than the 83 or so on GH5. More songs do not equal better quality. Although music is very opinionated so were all different. Personally i love it and think that 45 is fine. Dont forget it is actually cheaper as well.

"Who Are You?" says "who the hell." (In the original version, of course, something MUCH harder.) Four-letter words = you lose the E/E10 rating. (Yes, even "hell", unless it's used contextually as a place -- i.e., "put me through Hell").
As for the other Who songs:
Baba was included because there's no four-letter words and no overt drug references. Yes, "wasted/wasteland" can be/has been interpreted as wasted on drugs, but Pete himself has often said that he was talking about wasted potential....i.e., they've all wasted their lives away.
I'm not entirely sure about Magic Bus getting cut, except that RB has a live version that changes/adds lyrics....I'll have to give it a re-listen to see if there was something Pete or Roger dropped in there that shocked the censors.

Good thought (ah, the Microbus), but it's actually about a run-of-the-mill city bus that the rider takes every day to get to his girlfriend's house. He tries to talk the driver into selling it to him.
"Magic Bus" was also a type of LSD, but the history is still murky as to which title came first -- the drug nickname seems to have come about after the song, instead of vice versa.

Maybe with the install option available, devs aren't going through drive reading optimizations as much as they used to. Halo 3 is worse when installed to the HD, and Bungie specifically advised against doing so.

good job (kind of) addressing only two of my points.
Just a quick retort. If one already owns GH5 then BH is just a $65 track pack. Sure, it has 20 more songs than LRB but it's not like they're anything to write home about. The features and unlockables appear to be carbon copied from GH5. Unless you're really infatuated with digital Taylor Swift and Gwen Stefani, there's not going to be much incentive to play the game.
LRB is a bit lean when it comes to new features but it's a game that looks like it should appeal to younger players and it's a slightly cheaper track pack ($50 vs $65). Of course you get 20 more songs in BH, but it's a matter of taste as to which sets are better. I'm not sure why people are still complaining about online play. It's a feature that was intentionally left out as this is a kiddie version of RB. Export the songs and play online with RB2 and be done with it. Those auto-kick and super easy modes make it so that kids and non-gamers can enjoy the game. The no fail cheats disable saving on RB2 so basically they are not the same (haven't tested in LRB-do the kid friendly modes also disable saving?). GH5 and BH have these features too, so it's no wonder LRB added them.
In the end, LRB and BH are just glorified track packs, but there's enough features in each that might make some justify it as a full on game.

One thing I like about the LEGO Engine. Even if the drum animations are terrible, I like how they handled hand placement on the guitar animations. The guitars in game are Rock Band controllers, with 5 massive fret buttons. It animates it so (other than chords), the character's hand rests on the fret button that matches what you have to play. I think that's pretty neat.

Yep. You can only use one of your created characters at a time. So you got to re-create the others as your NPC bandmembers :) or Road crew so they show up. Its a pain, but at least you can make them all how you want them to look.

Gotta say, the character customization is not looking so hot at the moment.
It would have been much easier if I could pick the color of my Lego dude, THEN the clothes/character section he wore. My ideal combination has me with a yellow head and black chest/hands.
That and the "DUDDAAOOWW!" noise in the menu screens can be very, very annoying. I got booted off before I could see if this could be turned down, so that may not be much of an issue.

This probably has been covered, but I don't want to sort through over 300 pages to get my answer: when you transfer the LEGO Rock Band songs to RB2, do the LEGO songs retain the LEGO graphics, or do they transfer just the song notations and still use the RB2 graphics, characters and venues?

i haven't even tried yet but i'm pretty sure it would be the latter , there's no way they would have 45 seemingly random songs in rock band 2 where suddenly playing with lego characters amidst hundreds of songs with normal rock band 2 graphics

The songs play with RB2 graphic style. Just like RB DLC plays in LEGO with the lego format.

Hey I have a quick suggestion... Just as you have linked to the two posts in your Song section with Genre and in game Tier listings... here is the link to the post with the RB exported tiers:

Got that added to the OP along with the fact that the songs show up as DLC and do not have a LEGO logo on them...
