1 Judas Priest vs 1 Iron Maiden

anyway, you don't realize how difficult this is for me... I love both bands to death equally, and ill have to think about this for a long time...be back later.

Tough call - Love both. But as InstantDeath stated, Priest was an influence certainly on bands like Maiden. For the years they have been in the game, and what they have contributed, me and my lucky 8-Ball vote

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are both roughly the same caliber in my eyes, but Judas Priest has one thing Maiden doesn't: Riding on the Wind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csu_hURHNhk)

I don't agree with this...
I don't know any band that has had more music and riffs used in other music than Maiden . Metallica has even stated that Maiden was their idol when starting out. Maiden's music is constantly recycled in newer bands...Papa Roach(last resort),crooked X(nightmare)..just a couple of instances on rock band that Maidens riffs were DIRECTLY stolen . Also modern bands like avenged sevenfold , dream thearter , trivium , coheed and cambria have stated how influenced they were by Maiden. Now music is subjective so if you want to say Priest(whom I aklso like ) is beter that's your opinion but Maiden is more influencial and I don't even think its close...to me, Maiden is the Beethoven of metal ..

Ah, but would Maiden have been around without Priest? That's the question. Judas Priest was perhaps the biggest influence on Iron Maiden and their sound (the guitar duelling in metal was really developed by Judas Priest).

So, would IM have been nearly as influential without Judas Priest? I don't know for sure (I'll get my scientists working on that time machine), but something niggling tells me things would have played out very differently.

I see your point and agree that Maiden were influenced by Priest(as well as Jethro tull, Dio and the Who among others) by I also think much of the contemporary metal today was more heavily and DIRECTLY influenced by Iron maiden...but you can say, in a linked domino effect sort of way ,it started with Judas Priest

If you read the top of my post, you'll actually see that I actually like Maiden better :mad:

Just going by the logic that Judas Priest were a huge influence to Maiden.
