If the date is right then this is coming out July 28th.

That's a month after GH SH.

That seems a little close toghether doesn't it?

Wouldn't they eat into each other's sales by hitting so soon?

EDIT : Yeah I just clicked the original link, and not only does it not work, any reference to Van halen on Gamestop has been purged.

Before it took you to a Wii, PS3, and 360 page with the game and a release date.

Wonder if Gamestop is getting reamed by Activision for spoiling their E3 surprise?

I don't think there is one song I like from that band. How many hits do they have? Three?

Just because Gamestop lists it doesn't mean the date is official. Just like Best Buy and Future Shop, Gamestop has a habit of listing rumoured products, and their respective dates, as place holders for when/if the product comes out. Just like the Mad Catz cymbals were listed since the day it was first mentioned, although they didn't hit the market for how long?

Don't get your hopes up too quick.

Wow. Very odd indeed, but then again, Activision has gotten so much money out of the GH franchise that they're practically allowed to sell something like this. I can't see any other logic to GH:VH other than "to make money", though as noble pointed out, the times are only going to hurt them.

You gotta wonder...

As long as the vocal engine stays broken for the David Lee Roth songs, this game should be accurate.

Normally I'd agree.

A lot of times when they have rumored or possible release dates for a game they'll put it up on the first of that month.(or the first tuesday of that month).

If that month comes and goes then they'll move it to the next first tuesday of the next rumored month.

However this has a very specific date on it, and E3 is a little over five weeks away.

So I'm thinking at E3 we'll get an announcement of this game and confirmation that it's coming out on this date.

If it was just 7/1 or 8/1 as the release date I'd be right there with you.

I agree that it wouldn't be nearly enough time between product releases and would contribute greatly to oversaturating the market.

I don't see them eating into each other... one's called "Smash Hits" and Van Halen, well... didn't have many. :)

That being said, this one was the worst-kept secret of all time. My only guess is that we should probably be expecting GH games for The Eagles and possibly Ozzy as well in the not-too-distant future.

Actually the rumored next one is GH Motley Crue.

Outside of the Band hero, dj hero, guitar hero 5 nonsense that is.

This is pretty much what I meant. It's like we got a lot of rain, but now the ground is so supersaturated any more would be like trying to clean up a wet floor with a soaked sponge. The next GH game will break the dam.

I will be getting this. Not a fan of Metallica, so that GH did nothing for me. GH: Aerosmith would have been better if it had come later and been full band. But I'm a huge VH fan, so as long as it's more skewed to the Roth days and not the Hagar era, I'll be happy.

What boggles me is how so many people seem to think Van Halen is not in the same league as Aerosmith when it comes to deserving a standalone GH game. Maybe because Aerosmith is still churning out the same crappy rock songs they've been plopping in the bowl since they stopped doing drugs, while VH hasn't really done anything of significance since Sammy left the band?

Roth era VH is every bit as strong as drug era Aerosmith (and I'm a huge fan of both), and Hagar era VH (which I'm less a fan of) is better than post drug era Aerosmith (which makes me sad when I think of how awesome Aerosmith used to be).

Laughable at best. Van Halen are irrelevant, their music is terrible and boring. This will be the Kmart version of the AC/DC track pack, which was pretty bad to start with.

Not even Elvis Presley? He's not really a band and most of his master tracks probably wouldn't work in the game, but still...

I'd say the three bands deserving are Elvis, Zep, and Beatles.

No disrespect to any other musical act that have predated them or since followed, but those three right there are the foundation of everything Rock and Roll.

The band does have possibly the greatest guitarist of all time. The fact that you would equate them to AC/DC is what is laughable. All AC/DC songs sound the same.

I just looked over a few of their albums and then their greatest hits. Basically, what it boils down to is this: if VH came out with a 6-10 pack of songs, this would rock my world. But as a standalone game with 20+ VH songs? I literally cannot think of what songs they are going to go with. There just aren't enough songs in their catalog that people would recognize outside of hardcore fans. And when it comes down to it, are there really THAT many hardcore VH fans that would be willing to shell out the money for a standalone game based on them?

I just don't see this as being worthwhile, and I DO enjoy the band.

If having a fantastic guitarist makes for the grounds for having a band-specific game...

a) Why did Aerosmith get their own game? and
b) Where's RB: Dream Theater? :D

The only VH songs I can think of off the top of my head that NEED to be included in this game are:

Ain't Talking Bout Love
Eruption
Hot For Teacher (though already in GHWT...so I doubt they re-use it.)
Jamie's Crying
Jump
Panama
Running With The Devil
You Really Got Me

I've been wanting "Panama" in a music rhythm game since I played the first GH...so while I wouldn't purchase GH:VH for full price, I'd probably get it when it dropped to the $9.99 bin that GH: Aerosmith is at now.

What a stupid idea in an age of hard drive capable console to have to swap disc just to play a couple of songs.

As of now they're exclusive to GH, aren't they? Which saddens me, because I personally like RB much more than GH. And because exclusives are dumb. Why restrict yourself to only part of the music game market?

I'm also a big Van Halen fan, so I'm most likely getting the game as well. I don't really understand how people can say they are not deserving of their own game, they have a bunch of great songs and they were a solid band for a number of years. I think they were better with Roth era than with Sammy b/c I liked Van Halen better with Roth but they had some good stuff with Sammy.

The fact that somebody doesn't like a band doesn't justify them saying they have no good material That would be the same thing as me bashing a band that a lot of people probably like that I don't like and saying they don't have any good songs when in actuality they probably have some good songs that I just don't prefer. I also think they are well deserving of their own game, and I believe more than Aerosmith did but that's b/c I think Van Halen is better than Aerosmith and one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time. Aerosmith's stuff is awesome and I bought GH:A when it came out. I'm not saying my opinions here are right, I'm just writing what I believe. I think GH:VH will be a great game when it comes out and there are others who will agree and disagree, whoever wants to buy it will and whoever doesn't want to buy it won't.

I completely agree, to me, Van Halen is the quintessential band for Rock Band, like they were made for this game. I'm pretty sure they are exclusive for now since GH:VH is coming out and I too am saddened by this since I would love to see them in Rock Band. I too like Rock Band more than Guitar Hero now, I feel World Tour ruined Guitar Hero for me, I haven't played the game in months. The only Guitar Hero I play now is Metallica once in a while and custom songs I play on GH2 for PS2(which I actually have some Van Halen songs for, so I play those a lot). I only hope when their contract with Activision ends that HMX will somehow be able to get them in Rock Band.

VH hasn't really done anything of significance since Sammy Joined the band?

Fixed that for ya.
Sorry - Nothing VH did with Hagar was worth the time or energy. They will never be remembered the way the real deal has been. Sammy on his own, great. Sammy with VH? Just killing time.

But I agree with you, If Aerosmith can keep churning out it's cookie cutter songs, VH could have a great run with a game.

I really can't believe how people are saying Van Halen doesn't fit into this game and doesn't have enough good songs. There were super-popular and Eddie helped define the term "Guitar Hero" and they're one of the quintessential Rock bands. They're a perfect fit. They just didn't have the MTV crowd like Aerosmith did in later years. Sure, Aerosmith has more well-known songs, but they in no way are any more viable for this game than VH. Personally, I think VH is equally or more deserving.
