If half of the NFL wasn't total crap right now the Patriots wouldn't even be in consideration for this.

You should have made this a bigger poll :D
Added a 60's Packers team ex. '67 Packers
Added a 70's Steelers team ex. '75 Steelers
Added a 80's 49ers team ex. '89 49ers
Added a 90's Cowboys team ex. '92 or '93 Cowboys
Maybe the 99 or 01 Rams based on pure offense or the 00 Ravens for pure defense.
Ok, I'm done babbling.
I'd pick the '07 Pats or '93 Cowboys.

Yeah i was thinking about the steel curtain and each decades "dynasty" but i didn't want to make it too complex so i thought other was good enough...

The Pats aren't doing anything the late 90's broncos haven't done... They certainly arent doing anything the Cowboys haven't already done... From Wiki:
The Cowboys are the most successful team of the modern era (since 1960). They have won 5 Super Bowls and 8 Conference Championships. The Cowboys have more victories (40) on Monday Night Football than any other NFL team; the Miami Dolphins are 2nd with 39 and the San Francisco 49ers are 3rd with 38. They hold NFL records for the most consecutive winning seasons (20, from 1966 to 1985) and most seasons with at least 10 wins (24). The team has earned the most postseason appearances (28, which includes another league record of 55 postseason games, winning 32 of them), the most appearances in the NFC Championship Game (14), and the most Super Bowl appearances (8), two more than any other NFL team. The Cowboys also played in 2 NFL championship games before the NFL's 1970 merger with the American Football League. The Cowboys became the first team in NFL history to win 3 Super Bowls in just 4 years (a feat that has been matched only once since, by the New England Patriots). They are also tied with the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers for having the most Super Bowl wins (5). The Cowboys' success and popularity has earned them the nickname "America's Team."

You can eliminate the 05 Colts off the bat. No championship. The '06 Colts will never be considered up that high because they didn't dominate the regular season like some of those other teams. Towards the last 1/3 of the season their run defense was horrendous and got hot during the playoffs and played a terrible Bears team.
In terms of history they were a very good team, not great though.

I'll say the '84 49ers...for now.

My pick would be the 1989/90 '49ers. Back to back Super Bowls... including highest margin of victory in a SB at the time.
Montana, Rice, Young, Taylor, Craig, Lott.... all HoF caliber players. Lead by coaching guru Bill Walsh... with understudies like Mike Holmgren.
Watching that team dismantle people was just a joy to behold... they were on a totally other level from everyone else in the league. It reminds me very much of this year's Patriots. (provided the Patriots can continue to win--especially in the post-season.)

I'm going to abstain for now because I think the Pats have a chance but its too early to crown them.
Next would be the Bears followed closely by the '84 Niners who belong on this poll.
I was born 2 years too late to see the '72 Fins but I think they are a product of a different era and beneficiaries of a joke schedule.

QFT.
Of the teams listed I felt the pats were the best so I voted for them.
Tom Brady is one of the best to ever play the game...as far as I'm concerned, they are the best on that list.
I would have voted for a 70s Steelers team though...the curtain was the best, even though I wasn't alive for it :)
I ****ing hate Dallas...whole "America's Team" bull****.
Steelers have just as many fans, and Steelers have BETTER fans. When Dallas is having some off years, you don't see any fans in away stadiums. When Dallas has a good year, they come out of the woodwork. Steeler fans literally take over 75% of the stadiums in the country when they are away. I remember the Dallas game last year they wouldn't stop talking about the fact that 20000 Steeler fans came down. I live in Minnesota and went to the Steelers @ Vikings game 2 years ago...thousands of terrible towels in an away game :D

I think by now everyone knows you have no idea what you are talking about.
I was going to say my '97 Packers, who lead the NFL in scoring offense and scoring defense (although I have no idea how frequently that happens), then I remembered Holmgren ****ed us in the Super Bowl.

Personally, I'm waiting for the conspiracy theories that say the Pats let the Ravens and Eagles get so close in the last two weeks because of the flak they got for beating teams down so hard...
I voted "other," and would lean toward the Steel Curtain dynasty.

I vote for the Chargers, but the fact that I'm from SD could be clouding my judgement. It bugs me that the air-happy 70's Chargers teams always get overlooked in these types of polls. Gimme a break. Look what the Chargers did back then, when you could basically, molest receivers and not get a penalty. These days you can't sneeze on a WR without a flag.
I would say that ANY of the SB 9'er teams of the 80's or SB Cowboy teams of the 90's are better than the 07 Patriots.

Hell yeah. Emmitt Smith, Michael Irving, Troy Aikman and Co were far more dominant than the current Pats crew. But that also may be due to the fact that the entire Cowboys team were hopped up on cocaine the whole time. Emmitt is still my favorite football player of all time though.

Phff... Another 49ers fan. I think the American media back in the 70's called them that...
The Cowboys suck? Yeah, ya'll do have the catch, but...
The San Francisco 49ers have been another major Cowboy rival. Dallas has played more postseason games against San Francisco (seven) than any other opponent. The Cowboys defeated the 49ers in the 1970 and 1971 NFC Championship games, and again in the 1972 Divisional Playoff Game, when Roger Staubach threw two touchdown passes with less than two minutes remaining for a 30-28 win. The 1981 NFC Championship Game in San Francisco, which saw the 49ers' Joe Montana complete a game-winning pass to Dwight Clark in the final minute (now known as "The Catch"), is one of the most famous games in NFL history. San Francisco subsequently won their first of five Super Bowls. During the 1992-1994 seasons, Dallas and San Francisco faced each other in the NFC Championship Game. Dallas won the first two match-ups, and San Francisco, loaded with star players from other teams in the new era of free-agency, won the third. In each of the three seasons, the game's victor went on to win the Super Bowl.
Looks like we hold the playoff victory edge... So if the Cowboys suck, the the 49ers must really blow!
Edit: Bck in 95' I bought (well, my parents bought) an XL Emmit Smith jersey... I still wear it to this day.

The 05 colts also broke the quarterback reciever touchdown record with harrison and manning, and coach dungy's son committed suicide in week 16, i think it's kind of hard for a coach and team to overcome that right before playoffs.

The Cowboys suck, just on general principle.
But, as an Eagle fan, I'm required to say that.
However, always remember that "America's Team" was first offered to the Steelers, who thought it was silly.
What's compelling about the '07 Pats is that they're the first team to do anything like this in the era of the CBA and salary caps. It is no longer possible to buy championships, as owners like Jerry Jones and Al Davis spent the last 10 years learning.
However, there does seem to be an overcompensation for the cap that's starting to tear up parity--the whole "I'll take less money to play for a winner" mentality. That's what's tilted the country so that so many talented players rolled their way up to New England in the off-season. It's happening elsewhere, as well, but to a smaller degree: players are looking for places where they can finally have a legitimate shot at that ring, or at least make it to a playoff game.
As someone earlier in the thread said, it's not hard for the Patriots to do what they're doing when almost all of the rest of the league is so much worse than they are. More than half the league--20 teams--is at .500 or below this season, and there are Division leaders who are already in the 4- or 5-loss range.
Worse, still, there's not that much good football being played this year. When the most interesting game on offer is the Browns vs. the Cardinals, you know there's a problem.

I'm not so sure about them not being able to buy a championship. How many free agent wide receivers did they pick up in the off-season? They bought nearly their entire offense really over the off-season, which is why its so strong at this point.

But they didn't buy it the same way the teams from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s could (not saying they did, just that they could).
They got great deals on Stallworth and Moss, and Adalius Thomas went to them for a lot less than people expected him to command as a Free Agent. That's what I meant by players giving discounts to play for a winner.
(Also, as an Eagle fan, I know a good bit about the deal that went on with Stallworth, and while Stallworth may come away with a ring, the acquisition of Randy Moss was the worst thing that could happen to him, contract-wise: he has some incentives in his contract that trigger its extension beyond one year, but those incentives are based on the idea that he would be Brady's #1. Look for Stallworth to be back on the market in March.)
