well even though im glad to see MetallicA is finally on one of these rhythm games, i think there are WAY better songs for this game than Enter Sandman, i love the song, but there are songs such as Master of Puppets, Battery, One, and their other heavy metal and thrash songs from the 80's...who knows, maybe they'll be on it twice, but Sandman just seems to be the OBVIOUS choice, everyone knows it, mostly everyone likes it, but i'd rather see a much more difficult song on it...whoa, my 1st thread and im all ready ranting :o

I understand you are a hardcore Metallica fan, but you know what? Everybody wins.
Casual Metallica fans get a song they all know and love, while hardcore MEtallica fans get to download lots of Metallica songs after.
No one should be complaining.

They promise to dive deeper into metallica's library of songs, so I wouldn't be to upset. It's amazing they even got Metallica after Guitar Hero has been trying to get them for about 3 years, maybe more! I would expect a Metallica album to follow very close behind the Who's Album that comes out right after release as DLC.

No suprise that a game called Guitar Hero can't get the Lars/Hetfield lovefest that is Metallicrap.
They'd have to make it something along the lines of "Guitar/Vocalist and Drummer everyone else is replaceable Hero"
Enter Sandman was one of the first songs I learned on guitar and it is borning as hell to play. Words can't express my disappointment on this song choice.
Anything prior to the black album would have made me giddy.

I have to agree with Sushi here. I'd much rather have a bunch of good downloadable Metallica content than one good Metallica song on disc.
I just listened to Enter Sandman today, and it's got that fun cheesy quality like Wanted: Dead or Alive that works at parties. My wife would get up and sing this song, not Battery.
Top 40 Metallica will help move discs at retail, while good Metallica for download will make the rest of us very happy.

Still, I really hope they've got Battery up for download.

You'd think they could've put a little effort into their choices instead of saying "THIS IS POPULAR SO ITLL BE GD", wouldn't you?

Worst song you've ever heard? Have you never heard the crap produced by all of the country and Emo bands?
The reason Sandman was picked was because its a Metallica song that everyone knows. Everyone ranging from 12 year olds to grandpa's. Everyone who listens to Country to Jazz. Its mainstream, and thus appeals to a bigger audience. Granted there may be better choices for Metallica, but for the first 40 songs that come with the game, its a perfect choice.
Hotel California is an excellent song, I hope they add it and Stairway to Heaven. Along with future downloadable content from Zeppelin.

Enter Sandman will be fine. I've played a custom for it and it surprised me how fun it was. I imagine that Harmonix will do a better job on charting it than some random dude so it should be a great song for the game.

Just because a song is popular does not make it bad. Some poeple like those songs, I would think it is safe to say the majority of people (judging by these songs popularity) really like these songs, including me.
In the future there will be more metallica songs and black sabbath songs released. For now this is what we get, and I for one think they are fine choices, and look like they are really fun to play with 3 friends. Just be happy these bands are in the game!

The point is, it was obviously hard enough to get them to sign. People had been dying for it since GH1, i've been on the boards since the beginning. Finally they get them, they're probably ecstatic about it, and all people do is whine more. You're not ENTITLED to anything. Stop acting like it. The fact that they got Metallica is even worse. Yes, they got them, but they wasted their Metallica choice on the most popular song they could think of, even though the lesser-known ones would be a lot more fun in their game, because they couldn't be bothered to shift out 10$ for a full album.

Sorry I guess I thought that is what you meant as you listed Paranoid and Hotel California with it and talked about the decision to put them in as being based simply on popularity...
If there was one song by the Eagles that would be good for RB it would be Hotel California.
Either way, the songs are good, and they will be fun to play or they wouldn't be in the game, give them a chance, and when you play them you just might change your mind.
Also as I have said before there will be massive amounts of DLC, and I doubt anyone will be able to complain about that. They have already said they will dive deeper into metallica, and hopefully this will please everyone who isn't happy with the metallica that is already on the disc.

How do you know what Metallica allowed them to use? How do you know there won't be downloadable songs in the future? Give me a break, the fact remains that a lot of you are whiners by nature, its been common since the first board started. Whine, whine, whine, never satisfied.

Alright, just an opinion here...but to get things straight before I make my comment, I'd much rather see a song like Orion. So I'm definitely not one of those "only knows Enter Sandman" type of people.
But think about it, I'm going to use the "No Stairway" topic on the "other" forum as an example...there's like 66 or something people that have signed it...and there's what..just over 600,000 people just on the 360 leaderboards alone. Stop thinking just because you don't like a song, no one does. If everything they put on the game is so bad...take a programming course and make your own damn game with whatever YOU think is suitable.
Like really, if you're trying to sell a game, and Metallica is one of your biggest bands in it. Are they going to aim for those 66 "hardcore" music enthusiasts who have definitely heard the older stuff, and get 66 sales...or would they rather put on something just about all 600,000 people know to get them to buy the game...and THEN give the "hardcores" what they want in form of DL. Jesus..be happy or something.

I can think of 5 songs off the top of my head that they could have asked for first. Since they are clearly trying to please people based heavily on forums and feedback, I doubt they would have asked for enter sandman before, say, master of puppets. All i'm saying is that people should stop expecting that everything goes 100% the way they want it to. I don't like half the songs in either guitar hero, but **** are they fun to play. And the songs I DO like aren't always difficult, but they're still fun because.. They're good songs. I'd much rather play a good song with friends than play some crappy technical one because it just may be more difficult. Paranoid is still a classic. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath would be my choice, but i'm happy with Paranoid cause.. it's sabbath, and i get to sing in it.

It's just a waste. "We've got Metallica!" "ZOMFG!" "Let's find a fun song for them to be in the game!" "Oh, okay, I'll turn Kerrang! on and we'll put in the first Metallica song we see!" "..." "What's this? This sounds like it could be fun!" "WHERE ARE TEH BASS?" "Okay, second one." "omg vocals" "omg drums" "omg geetar" "omg bass" "lets put it in" "kthxboss".
oh god what did i start...i made this a breeding ground for whiny *****y idiots to bash MetallicA and Harmonix

okay metallica (old) is amazing and enter sandman is a perfect in between song for them to choose but i worry about megadeth. i have a feeling that metallica is going to be to take the place of megadeth and megadeth will stay within guitar hero.
this depresses me because i love megadeth throughout basically their whole span. Anything, even a song off the new album (which is amazing!!!) can be put in the game cause its as amazing as old megadeth.
so as much as i love metallica i would also love to see megadeth make it into the setlist, or at least as dlc.

I think people should stop *****ing. We all realise it's one of Metallica's more musically dull songs but as a few people have said I think it's a good balance between good song/fun to play and popularity/something everybody will be able to get into.
What I'm interested in is this: what does this mean for double kick in the game? They could have chosen this song because it has no double kick which could signify there won't be any double kick songs in the game. But the media release also says songs will span metallica's entire career, and pretty much all of their pre black stuff had double kick in every song. Interesting indeed.

Enter Sandman is the single worst song I've ever heard. Worse than Yes We Can. Worse than Farewell Myth. Worse than Hey. Why? Because it's Metallica in a desperate atttempt to remain mainstream. The Black Album was an embarassment to the name Metallica.

The fact that you're basing your review of the song NOT on the music itself, but on the principles you think are movivating the song to be written means that your opinion is biased and flawed. You can't judge music based on principle. You judge it on sound. Saying its 'the worst song ever' because you think it's too mainstream for metallica is ******ed, its more than obvious that there are thousands of worse songs than that.
You can feel free to not like it, but to say it's the worst song ever and your reason behind it is dumb man. You need to learn that mainstream is not always BAD, regardless of how crappy modern music is, you shouldn't just downright blow everything off just because it's not completely seperated from mainstream music. It destroys your chance to enjoy more music. Listening to the obscure does not automatically mean you have a superior taste in music to everybody else, and it doesn't mean that mainstream automatically sucks.

A desperate attempt to remain mainstream? Um, Enter Sandman was Metallica's extraordinarily successful attempt to sell about 15 million albums to the mainstream. They weren't trying to hold on to the mainstream, they were courting it.

Since when is "repetitive" spelled "fun?"
I don't have blind seething hatred for the song like some people, but just listening to the guitar you can tell that it will be about as repetitive as the intro to Smoke on the Water. Granted, it has a fairly decent solo, but it's still not that great of a song for this game overall.

I have been a fan of Metallica since the beginning yes i'm showing my age here (32) but i dont care.. and i quite like Enter sandman and i'm glad it's on the disc i could think of far worse tracks from the Load-Reload era.. but hey everyone can have their opinion, if you dont like the Song then dont bother with it when RB is released but to put everyone else down who does like it and say it doesn't deserve to be in the game just because you don't think it should makes you look immature and childish.. and as everyone else has said there will be Metallica tracks to download so you will most likely have your favourite there.

I don't see what the problem with the song is. Sure, it's not their best nor my favorite from them, but this song has one of the most recognizable riffs in history. It's a great song. It's definitely a departure from what most of us consider Metallica's best, but it's still Metallica.
Everyone wanted Metallica in Guitar Hero, we finally get it in Rock Band and people still find something to pick at it about. There are going to be songs added later on, I have to imagine we'll see a good bit of 80's 'Tallica. Either way, I'm just psyched that Metallica is in the game and that the songs are master tracks.

So basically you are saying that you know intrinsically what people consider fun? No, you're literally just thinking for everybody else based on your own opinions. You have no leg to stand on here, and it's obvious that you're not thinking about what would be best for the general public, but what would satisfy YOU.
Enter Sandman is really boring, though. There are far more fun Metallica songs that are almost as well known.

First off Jakeycakes.... What exactly do you mean by "Remain Mainstream". To me, This would imply that they "WERE" mainstream prior to the Black album. Were you even born yet? Let me clue you in... Enter Sandman was the song that broke them into the mainstream. You like to post all over these forums about music that was recorded before you were even born, So weren't around to know what the whole scene was. The proper Metallica bashing would be that they "Sold Out" with that album. They were light years away from being mainstream. One was a fluke hit due mostly to an incredible video hat was played a Kazillion times on MTV. Personally I don't like the Black Album or anything they have done since, But then I listened to and owned all their albums up to that point. The Black Album sounded the way that it did largely due to the producer they hired. And whether we like it or not, people including artists and musicians DO change over the years. It does not necessarily mean a conscious effort to change to reach a new audience. It just happens..
Where was I going with all this? OH! STFU about how Enter Sandman sucks and either not play it or at least stop talking about it. Because your three years of watching VH1 hardly makes you the authority on music that you think you are.

I know I wasn't dissing the black album directly. Although I think that it's not thier best album. There was a time before I was into metal and it was Metallica and largely the black album that got me looking into the genre. It's accessible and therefore it gets old after a while, especially Enter Sandman...
I just wonder why they decided on that particular song considering the popularity of the entire album. There are a lot of other songs on that album that I would have liked more.
Oh well, I guess they needed SOME songs for the easiest level.

I love all Metallica albums up to the Black Album, which for me marks the decline of their music with some noteworthy exceptions (such as No Leaf Clover and Until it Sleeps). That does not mean however that their last albums were terrible, to me it mostly signifies that their previous albums were that good.
The reason why Enter Sandman has been chosen seems very simple to me: easy marketing. Most people will have heard of Metallica and Enter Sandman is one of their best known songs. Normally I would also have complained a lot for this particular choice of song, Enter Sandman is not even in my top 25 of Metallica songs, however the promise that we will get to experience songs spanning their whole career has reassured me enough. With the release of complete albums it is easy to see that one of them will be a Metallica album, hopefully Master of Puppets or ...And Justice For All.

I don't think I came across quite right on that.. I wasn't saying they did sell out.. Just that most people said they did. I don't think they sold out ever.. Just grew in a different direction is all. How boring would a group be if their 20th album was nearly identical to their first.. I just don't have to listen to them past a certain point is all.
I have always maintained that any group has a certain amount of awesomeness in them and one day the well runs dry... So we move on.

Because the song they got was a piece of ****.
God, pull your tampon out of your ass and quit *****ing.
They got Metallica. They can't choose which songs they get, they get which songs the band gives them. And they got METALLICA. They were touched by the hand of god that Lars quit being a douche and actually licensed them a song.
There's a reason in GH1 it says "Don't let the drummer handle the money"
People need to quit *****ing and accept the fact they'll get the good, yet popular songs from many of the BIG named bands such as Sabbath, Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and various other big old bands.
Walk up to/e-mail Lars from Metallica and ask him to license Master Of Puppets for a game he's never heard of, and see what he says. It's about what the bands will give you. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you have to bear with what they give you.

True, and i don't mean to stereotype age. It's just more likely that a younger audience won't have been exposed to as much music, and won't be able to appreciate it.
I was younger once too.. Hated rap, hated hip hop, techno was crap. Nirvana was THE best band ever and AC/DC was the greatest too. As you grow up.. you learn to give new stuff a chance. You don't hear just the music, but you appreciate the effort put in to making it. You realize that these people deeply believe in the music they're putting out too, otherwise they wouldn't be making music.
The first time you learn to accept something you would never give a chance before, that opens up so many doors and lets you listen to and enjoy a lot more music. That's why I dropped my stagnant opinions on different genres, and I'm glad I did.. Theres a lot of stuff out there you're missing out on by writing off a whole genre based on one or two artists.

Exactly! People don't know and don't care what it takes to get to that point. They just want the shiny finished product that is a song or album. Artist put their heart and soul into their work.
