Hey all, quick hypothetical question regarding the code for these two games which allows you to transfer their track listings to your HD for play on RB2. Recently picked up the AC/DC pack so I just want some clarification on this.

The code specifically states it can only be used once - I'm assuming this means once I input the code it will be linked to my Xbox Live account. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My question is, if in the chance my hard drive messes up, and stuff gets erased or I have to replace the HD, will I still be able to put the tracks from RB1 and the AC/DC pack onto the new HD, having already used the codes for play on RB2, or am I outta luck here? I'd be using the same Xbox Live Account of course.

Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

If your hard drive ends up dying and you have to get it replaced, Microsoft allows you to do a license transfer (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/) to your new 360, so you don't have to worry about losing your export data.

That's correct. One-time-use only.

The AC/DC pack is actually a ~750MB download. When you input the code on the XBL Marketplace, the download starts. If your stuff gets erased or whatever, you can re-download it through your Download History on XBL anytime.

The code on the back of the RB2 manual for the 20-Free-Song download works the same way, except you don't enter it directly in XBL. You enter it on the RB website here, http://register.rockband.com/, and it emails you a code to enter on XBL. The Download History thing mentioned above applies to that too.

The RB1 export is different. There is no code for that. You purchase a $5 export license key from XBL, and then the songs are actually ripped from the RB1 disc itself. If you ever lose that HDD, you'll have to have the RB1 disc again to re-export them.

You don't have to migrate licenses if you replace your HDD, only if you replace the Xbox itself.

He made it sound as though that was going to happen... my bad.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

So it sounds like as long as I use the same XBL account even if I swap HDD I should be ok to download my stuff again. And I'd only need to do that transfer thing if the entire Xbox dies.
