View Full Version : Please Vote for RockBand.com in the Webby Awards!

Greetings, everyone!
About 7 months ago, I posted on the forums to tell you about the "all-new RockBand.com". Since then, you've seen the introduction of a killer DLC database (now with music videos, full-length streaming previews, and MP3 downloads), over 150 'Zine posts, including over a dozen artist interviews, and how about that Photo Booth? It's awesome to see so many of you using your RockBand.com generated photos as your site avatars.
So, I'm wondering if you'd be willing to do US a little favor...
RockBand.com has been nominated for a Webby Award, for "Best Games-Related Site". I'm extremely proud of this honor, especially as we are the only single-game site in the running. But we're up against some tough competition. While I wrestled with the moral question of whether to mention the nomination on our homepage, a competitor (who shall remain nameless) saw no issue with plastering voting links no less than THREE times on their homepage - AND added a lead-in to all of their site's movies with a video tutorial on how to vote for them!
Incidentally, this nameless competitor beat us last year - when we were also nominated, but with a 56% less amazing website than what we've got now! Now, these guys may have a bigger membership roster than us, but no one out-awesomes the Rock Band community.
Webby voting ends THIS THURSDAY (April 30th). So, if you enjoy Rock Band, and you enjoy RockBand.com, and it isn't too much trouble, everyone here at Harmonix would love for you to visit:

I thought that said Cute Overlord at first (Henry's new title?). It's going to be hard to compete with Escapist, which I have a feeling is the one Jeff mentioned as plastering the promos everywhere. I see them every time I go to that site, and still voted for RB instead. :)

Fix the leaderboards. Be more responsive to issues like the gold stars, shaky vocal arrow and such. A simple message like, we're working on it, or we can't fix something would be nice. Then I'll vote for you.

04-28-2009, 01:22 PM
I'm sorry but as much as I love you HMX, this website is useless without working leaderboards (ie being able to find your scores??). Also why aren't the in-game performances being linked to personal profile pages? I could care less if I can see pictures of my band up on my profile page. I want to see how far I've progressed in the game, what songs I own, what are my most played songs, what songs my friends own, my SCORES, my STARS, my RANKS, a history of my BotB performances.
Just take a look at myrockbandsongs.com or rockbandstats.com for inspiration. Or, as much as I hate to say it, guitar hero's website. Or outside the genre, 2ksports' nba2k9 site, where its practically like an espn.com, Halo 3's site, Forza 2's site, etc. Unfortunately, rb.com has almost nothing relating to actually Playing the game.

I probably would have voted but I think it's num-skull-ish that you guys ban people for calling out the groupie jerk offs, but when those people call "noobs" morons and idiots for not knowing what they know it's ok... your game is incredible, and I'm sure this site has some functionallity beyond bashing "noobs", but on a personal level I think you guys kinda suck.... oh, and a big part of that is for conforming to censor songs and include spongebob, naked bros, etc.... why cant you just make an M rated game? GTA sells, RB wouldnt be hurt by the M rating, todays parents are idiots and dont care. Thanks, I'll have my next ban for having an opinion now!
We don't ban people for having opinions. We ban people for violating the forum rules and the terms of service. I ban plenty of people for picking on "noobs" too. If you see anyone, a forum regular or not, picking on anyone then you should report the post and we'll delete it / issue bans / take care of things.
Complaining about M rated content is something else entirely, and a discussion for a different thread. But for now Rock Band is rated T for Teen and the content we release will reflect that rating.

No one should ever feel this way. None of the HMX devs are giving any kind of special treatment to people with seniority. If you flame you flame and you'll either get a warning via PM or you'll get a ban. If another poster is giving you a hard time, don't hesitate to use the Post Report feature (the little red exclamation point in the upper right hand corner of every post) and we'll take the appropriate action. We want everyone to feel comfortable posting here.
Do you think Major League Gaming is that devoted to the well being on their posters?! Probably, they seem like a really nice bunch of folks. Vote for one of us (preferably us) at the Webbys!

The "old" boards would have definitely got my vote, I loved visiting the site daily and contributing. However, ever since the big site overhaul, I've gotten on less-and-less. I can't remember the last time I've read the forums, let alone post.
I understand the site now offers an incredible amount of stuff to do, but the message board (my favorite part, and the most essential IMO) still feels... wonky... to me. It may just be a personal issue, but you'll definitely not be getting my vote based on website alone...
However, you are getting my vote based on the quality of your game. It's given me enough hours of entertainment that I'll vote for it any day.

Definitely let us know what you think needs work. The Web Support forum is a great place to post suggestions for new features on the site, or alert us to things that aren't working for you. In addition to the usual devs, there's a few members of the Web Team lurking that forum, so we'll be on the lookout for your suggestions. Thanks for the vote!

I would vote, but when attempting to make use of some of the features highlighted in the original post, such as song previews and videos, was disappointed to come across yet another example of 'regionalizing' the internet. Put simply - "not in the US, so can't be bothered to secure the rights to view our content - enjoy the watered down version of our site"
Sorry, but nothing annoys me more!

My moral code won't allow me to vote for a website that censors certain combinations of letters. Also, IMO, too many threads are locked. I don't need to hear the "they violate our TOS, etc" explanation. The TOS are part of the site, and IMO, they are bad.

well we're a T for Teen rated game and keep our forums as such. Also, given that we're a community site - with community message boards - we (the mods and devs) do our best to make sure that everyone who visits feels welcome - so yes, that means cutting out offensive language or posts that violate the TOU - terms that are written with the full audience of who visits and uses this site in mind - and not just you specifically.

Yeah, I know this. I just disagree with it. If someone feels unwelcome because other people write words that somehow hurt their eyes or mind to read (even though other words that mean the same thing apparently don't hurt them), I'd prefer that the site forces them to deal with it or leave instead of forcing people like myself, who are, IMO, slightly better humans (remember -- I said IMO on that one) to deal with censorship or leave.
And I know that the game's rated a T, but this thread is about the site. Don't get me started on the game...

Sure, I'm making a big deal out of **** that really doesn't bother me, but it's the relativity of the situation that makes this topic important. It's simple math, really. I'll give the inconvenience and annoyance of dealing with censorship an importance factor of 0.01. Then I'll give the pain and suffering that someone goes through who doesn't like to read certain words when they read them an importance factor of 0.0001. 0.01 and 0.0001. Both small numbers in the big scheme of things, right? But now take the ratio, 0.01/0.0001, and you get 100. ONE HUNDRED! That's huge! A Benji! If you had to say how full a glass is when it's completely full, you'd say it's 100% full. That's the FULLEST IT CAN GET.
Basically, I'm saying that censoring words on a website is, IMO, really, really ******ed, even though it doesn't really negatively affect me very much.
Plus, I've found all sorts of little tricks to get the words that I need to properly express myself to make it through. That plays a big part in my high post count.

A friendly reminder - it's totally ok to disagree with our profanity filter in principle. It won't make it go away or anything but its certainly ok. What isn't ok is using special characters to bypass the profanity filters. That will result in bannings that can't really be disagreed with.

While your enthusiasm for one specific genre of music is appreciated, the Webby Awards aren't for voting on your favorite game, or your favorite set list, or favorite game with the most hair bands. It is solely devoted to the website. Just Rockband.com. Not Rock Band, or Rock Band 2, or the DLC. Just this website that you are on right now.

The only problem I had was my confirmation e-mail being classed as Junk. I thought the site was just incredibly slow, turned out to be my error.
I'm not voting! The leaderboards are crappy compared to the Guitar Hero website. I want to easily see the score, rank, % hit and note streak for the songs I've played...

Gamespot and GameFAQ's are really the same site GameFAQ's are the forums of GameSpot.. And GameFAQ's help alot too in some cases.

Simple: EVERYONE knows about GameSpot. Everyone. And those who don't know GameFaqs, which really is the same thing.

Damnit, that must have been our downfall.
How about this: right now I will ask everyone to vote for us next year. Try to get our foot in the door early.
Thanks to everyone who voted for us! Your support is very much appreciated.
