This is a seriously legitimate question. The only song I have failed repeatedly across the hard campaign. I have yet to see anyone who hasn't complained about this dudes' "harmonized mumbling" which is very low or high in pitch the whole song.

I 5* it on medium, not that that's saying much.

I love singing this song. I haven't graduated from Medium on vocals (been spending too much time drumming), but it's one of my favorites thus far.

Ive managed to muscle my way through it on hard. Its quite a pain when the higher notes come.

I can't do it on Hard. It's like... wow. The mumbling starts low, so I mumble low. Then the singer starts to yell, and I yell. Then he goes high without yelling, and I'm still yelling. And off key. Seconds later, I'm out.

I second that. Reptilia made me crazy in Expert, and although I did finally squeak past it, I certainly didn't pick up a lot of stars in the process.
The first part is the hardest, IMO. The chorus is doable, if you can get to it. I ended up actually listening to the first part of the song a few time outside of Rock Band in order to figure out what was being sung, but the pitches that guy goes with are just plain weird and difficult remember, even with the visual cue.
Reptilia = pain and suffering. I guess that's what I'm trying to say here.

You guys know that you can drop your voice an octave, right? As long as you're in pitch, it doesn't matter if you're singing a ridiculous falsetto C or a booming bass C.
Baxter
12-05-2007, 03:28 PM
The only thing, i find, is that is its a little easier to manage your pitch when your on the same octave as the actual vocals. Maybe its just me, i stand next to the drummer so sometimes theres a little too much noise. :P

If you guys listen to The Strokes, then you know that Julian Casablancas ALWAYS sings in a mumbling harmonic voice. Gives the song nice sound, but uber difficult to emmulate. I did alright on, hard, but then again Ive been singing that song in my car for years and know it front and back! lol

I 5* it on Expert (Highest score on the PSN, I do believe). I definitely didn't do it in the same octave as Julian Casablancas. So, drop it down an octave for this one! Also, it helped that I was very familiar with the song...
IMO, "I Get By" is exponentially more difficult. Now, that has some wacky pitch changes towards the middle!

Fixed. :)
Haven't tried much of the bonus content in vocals yet. Suppose I have that to look forward to. Or dread. One of those things.

I actually love this song, and 5*d it on Expert. I'm not as good as Kirk, though, since he's right above me on the boards *sighs dejectedly*

Hey, MandaCookie! I wasn't sure if you visited the forums or not. Neato. Alot of your scores are really up there, though! I mean, you are immediately behind me...and that's just for now. You'll probably pass me in no time.

Lol, I downloaded a torrent with all the songs on it so I could listen to them repeatedly and burn them into my brain. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I can't play rock band right now because of a cold that came out of nowhere yesterday. I plan on passing you one day, lol. Actually, when I first saw your name on the boards (around #10 or so) I said to myself "That guy's going to pass me, just wait." And you did! *tear* Oh well, having a challenge present only makes me work harder.

Haha, I'm going to push you into becoming the best singer in the world. I didn t even look at the Leaderboards till I was at #4. Then I decided "Hey, first isn't that far off, I'll give it a go." I've pretty much come to a complete stop though. Not going to be moving much for a while. So, here's your chance. In fact, I probably won't have broadband access for the next month. Perfect opportunity to destroy me.

I got 3 or 4 stars on Hard. Listen to it in practice mode a few times and you'll hear that there IS actually a set "melody" to follow for the verses and chorus. Spend time listening to it and experimenting in practice mode to find the best octave for you to sing it in. Once I listened to it and found it, it was much easier.

Excellent~ I haven't been trying much to really obliterate the board, just to stay in first. There's a difference between being #1 and just showing off. And I didn't look at the board until I was #3, and decided to shoot for top spot. I figured give it a month and I'd be #5 or lower, you know, once the game is released in Canada and more people have bought the game. But I'm going to fight for that spot until it kills me.

This is probably the hardest "easy" song for me so far (i.e., it's below tier 7...). I get through Hard with 4+ stars, but can't quite get 5... it's really frustrating because I *like* the song.. XD It's the song I like the most yet have the most trouble with. It's on my "To Do" list right now.
The thing is, it doesn't even sound like it should be that difficult... :|
P.S. drop an octave?! I have to go up an octave for the first phrase of each verse... ;)

I made a HUGE mistake one day. I noticed I was at 79 and spent the entire day bringing myself up to 8th. Can you guess what happened???? My voice was shot for the next 4-5 days. It's just now coming back.
It's doubtful I'll ever catch Kirk or Manda considering you two are at the 8 and 7 mil mark!!!!!! How the heck did you guys do that??????
One last thing: It appears that downloadable content does not increase your score??? Am I correct?

I'm pretty sure that's correct, based on something else I read on the forums here; since not everyone will (or can) buy the DLCs, it's not fair to include them in the leaderboard rankings... :o

That's too bad as I can do the Police songs pretty well. It would also encourage more people to buy the DLC so they can increase their scores. Granted, I would be screwed with the Metallica songs but that's a risk I'd be willing to take.
If they included the DLC in the Career leaderboard scoring the scores could only increase! It's going to get a bit boring in a few months doing the same 58 songs over and over.

I 100% this song on medium once. I really liked the first 2 Strokes albums a lot and I was really familiar with Reptilia before playing it in Rock Band. Hearing girls try and sing shows the difficulty in the low note phrases.

I can clear this song with 85-95% on Hard. The only line that gives me trouble is "You're in a strange part of our town". I've tried all sorts of variations and can't figure out what tones it actually wants from me.

That actually sounds pretty awful. Buying your way to victory hasn't been cool since EA's Battlefield games started selling gamers software addons with better guns to beat people who didn't shell out.
While singing an octave lower is supposed to be viable, I even have a low-medium voice, I find that low pitch is about 10x more picky than singing high. Singing up with the girls makes the game a lot easier.

I'm glad this topic is still around. I remember reading it earlier and thinking "oh, come now, it can't be that bad."
Well, I just failed out of song 6 on a 7 song set to, you guessed it: Reptillia. It was hard enough that I didn't know the words to Detroit Rock City / Mississippi Queen (or the pitches to go along with them), but I managed to sight read them on Hard while playing Hard guitar at the same time... then Reptillia comes and BAM. Fail. Overdrive. Fail. Wait on the over drive until just about finished draining. Fail. Watch helplessly as my third overdrive does diddly.
You have lost 12000 fans.
Great, thanks.

100% on hard. 90-something% on expert. No practice. If I actually practiced, I'm sure I could easily 100% it on expert. To be fair I do love me some Strokes.

I agree, I don't like it when companies do that. Buying your way to victory sounds like a good marketing plan, but it's definitely got some ethical issues. Like Magic the Gathering... the more money you pour into it, the better-off you are--which wouldn't be too terrible except that every expansion basically renders the previous one obsolete. And it's just not fair to give an advantage to people with deeper pockets.

My band is number one on the leaderboards for Reptillia currently, it took our singer quite a bit to get down the vocals but once you get his correct mumbling pitch it gets easier

I find this song to be much easier than Gimme Shelter or Mississippi Queen. I've five-starred it on expert. Of course, I've now five-starred the entire main setlist on expert, so I guess that's not saying much.

Meh, that's really only if you play Standard/Type II, and only at a highly competitive level. If you play Extended there are a few gems that come along but there's no immediate need to upgrade.
I used to play Standard up until a few months ago, and I don't exactly have a huge income. I made creative decks using garbage rares or cheap cards and outplayed people with $400 stacks of cards. Hell, I went to Regionals last year with a combo deck with no rares (well, I sideboarded $6 uncommons (Remand), but I borrowed those from friends) and placed 9th, missing out on the playoff round due to bad tiebreakers.
A good player with a lot of income and a tried, tested and true net deck will generally beat out most people, but a lot of the people that you'll meet in tournaments are not exactly good players. :)

On-topic, Gimme Shelter causes me more problems than Reptilia.

Yeh, Gimme Shelter can be quite a pain, a lot of it due to you can bearly hear Mick Jager over the gospel singer and the rest of the instruments in the song half the time.

Sing every other day for the expert mode as your voice will get shot after the first set. Then you'll have more luck.

squeeked by in Hard - EEEEEEKED by on Expert. I hate that song. It wont get outta my head I had to do it and re-do it soooo many damn times.
This game needs a feature to at least replace 2 songs per solo career. Some of these songs would get you booed off the stage even if you sung it right!

I'm 5th place on this song on expert on the leaderboards... I didn't read every post but I heard some people talking about mumbling and then yelling. In case no one else said it, don't do either one... the game doesn't know the difference. If anything, yelling is going to make you fluctuate off keys or add noise that will break your steady line.
Oh, and the guy above me about unlocking it... it's available in quickplay, or at different places as you play through solo tours. Depends on what instrument how long it will take you to get to it. You play the first 5 songs and get 5 new ones, then 5 more and so on after each group of 5 is finished.

Agreed 100% on I Get By. It's the only song I didn't get 4 stars the first time through. And it's the only song I failed on Expert. I like the song, but singing it is ridiculous. It seems like he's just randomly changing pitch up and down and I don't want to do the smart thing and just listen to the song a few times, ha ha. Hate, hate, hate, hate! I had to struggle to even pass the stupid thing, I don't want to ever sing it again.
I got 5 stars on Reptilia on expert the first time through, I wish I had some advice to give. :x
The songs I had the most trouble with were I Get By, Gimme Shelter, Detroit Rock City, and Mississippi Queen. Also, I'm obviously missing something on the "talky parts". Any advice would be appreciated, they seem very hit or miss with me and it's probably something I don't understand. Like there's one song where the whole phrase is "Ow" and I can't get better than "Okay" rating.
