1) Pick up your PS3.
2) Carry it to your computer.
3) Plug in the ethernet cable.
4) ???

Better yet, how do online PS3 owners get this now infamous patch? :p
Seriously, offline users may be screwed unless they can somehow send it to you. I have my doubts about that though.

Aside from Xanthous' practical solution, if you are against plugging your ethernet cord that you're using on your computer (if you posted on the forums...unless you're at a library), you can hope that they just release the patch online on the website, and then you copy it over to your PS3 using some sort of media card or USB jump-drive thingymabobber.
How can you post to this forum but not just d/l the patch (when it's available) and throw it onto a usb drive?

You could always take it to a friends house if you cant use the internet you're using right now.

Hell you could wardrive at a friend's house and find someone dumb enough to have unencrypted wireless...
Just saying, where there's a will, there's a downloadable online patch.

I think this is a valid question. Not everyone has broadband (in fact, penetration in the US market is abysmal compared to a lot of the rest of the civilized world).
The PS3 supports system (OS) updates from removeable media (USB thumb drives, memory cards, etc), but I don't think it currently supports game updates from removeable media, so even if Harmonix wanted to release a patch through some other channel, users wouldn't be able to apply it.
So, currently, you have to be able to connect to broadband to get updates to games. It's unfortunate, but not really surprising.

If he's on dial-up, he can just share his internet connection (the one on dial-up) with the ethernet adapter (the network). Then use a crossover cable, if those are even used these days, config some IP's, and get the PS3 online that way. This worked back in the olden days (before PS3's) of dial-up and my own house network... times change though. But really, Google would have the answer for this.
