If you have an extra drumstick or don't have a drummer and want some silly fun times, fire up vocals on don't Fear the Reaper. Then, during the cowbell sections hold the mic sideways and tap it with the drumstick. Then pretend you're Will Farrell, it's a blast.
Ok, so when I'm by myself in my Apt. playing rock band I do strange things...

no thanks, dont want to dent my mic.
on a related note, how do the cowbell/tambourine parts for vocals get scored or whatever? cause its fun to play an instrument and sing at the same time, but you cant hit those notes. and no, im not going to vocalize or click my tongue to the cowbell parts.

erm...I wouldn't recommend this unless you don't care about shortening the lifespan of your microphone.

Dude, you tap it lightly, it's no different than tapping it with your finger. And it's fun.

they only count as a bonus and aren't a detriment, but I suppose the few points you get for it could make or break an extra star rating.
if you use a mic stand, you could just bop your head into it. you might dent your head (or the mic!), but other than vocalizing it, I don't know. if you're using a headset, I think you're screwed.

hmm...combining the mic and a drumstick seems to be the prescription for more cowbell...

I really doubt you can do much damage to the mic with a drumstick if you don't go postal on it.
Even then - that's part of the reason for the metal casing over the head. Not to mention you wouldn't even have to hit the head. Hitting the casing would be quite sufficient.
And to the OP.... That's some of the funniest crap I've seen on the forums today!

I totally went out and got a cowbell just for don't fear the reaper. Well actually it was a real bell off a cow, but it should do the trick.

When I sing and play at the same time I just make a pop noise with my mouth. I try to do it on every drum beat until I have to take a breath since the percussion parts are during solos and I can't sightread both at the same time during a complex solo.

I cannot possibly do both of those things at the same time. :p

i wouldn't tempt fate, as they say with a drum stick hitting the microphone, as were not sure how sensitive the mic is which is the most reliable of the three instruments at the moment

When I'm playing Guitar / Mic at the same time, I wind up just puffing air into the mic every beat I can manage. I would bang my head, but unfortunately, I don't use a mic stand. Below, you will see my amazing Ikea lamp that, without a bulb, functions as an awesome mic stand if you don't move it too much:

That will most likely be a bad idea to do, even if it looks fun I wouldn't do it.
However I was already thinking of buying a cowbell and attaching it to my drums and playing it during solos and crap, might sound cool I don't know but that's better than banging on your mic and breaking it, then explaining it to EA and trying to get them to replace it lol.

I can confirm the "If you're using a headset you're screwed" comment. No Ikea lamp handy, so if I play and sing at the same time I use a headset. I've tried tapping the mic with my finger, clicking my tongue, popping my lips, nothing seems to work. I had suspected that there was a shock sensor in the RB mic. But hearing that making noises works with it, I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't work with the headset.
BTW: could somebody shrink that pic so the text frame doesn't go 6 miles off the screen?
