Hey folks,

I am going nuts trying to decide which system to get along with RB2. I won't be playing too many other games other than RB2, except if I got the Wii I'd play the new Tiger Woods 10 with Motion plus (which I really want) or if I got the 360 I'd play Guitar Hero Metallica (which I also really want).

Here's my list of pros for each system. Can you think of think of anything else (or if I'm wrong on any of these point that out)?

Wii:
I can get Tiger Woods 10 With Motion Plus
$50 cheaper
Smaller and more quiet

Xbox:
Better graphics (I have an 40" 1080p TV)
Better sound (I have a 5.1 system)
Can import RB1 songs
Can play Guitar Hero Metallica, but drums have some limitations
Netflix and other media center options

Anything else?

If you want nice and fun people to play with, go with Wii.

The wii version will have you in pain from its lack of storage capacity. Trust me I have the wii.

I second the option for the Xbox 360. I started out with RB for Wii, but decided to buy it for the 360 and haven't looked back. Sold everything RB related for the Wii. The graphics are so much better, the sound is awesome, and you have plenty of storage space for DLC even with the '20' gig hard drive. Not only that, but the wireless drums are a good thing.

Xbox 360.

I sold my Wii a few weeks back and got a 360. Best decision I've made of late.
And if you check eBay or elsewhere online, the 360 is actually cheaper than the Wii (I got a refurbished one for $218, and since then, the price from that seller has actually gone down).

Everyone is going to tell you 360 and your own points seem to already indicate a leaning towards the 360. Myself, I am adamantly sticking to my Wii because it is right for my gaming needs.

I have the wii, and will be buying a 360 next week.. I'm just tired of waiting on the DLC to catch up. Also I want the ion, and it is not currently available for the wii. So I'm getting the 360 Elite off of ebay for cheap, and purchasing an ion from gamestop for 250. Then I just need to buy the game. :D

Also I really want to be able to port over the rockband 1 games.. That is another plus for the 360...

Also in b4 lock.. :D

I will add this... I've been following your posts and have even responded to a couple of them. I'm glad to see that you are actually researching this thoroughly to choose the route that is best for you. It's refreshing to see someone use a little more objectivity than these forums are generally known for.

Much luck, nullqwerty! :)

Well thanks for the help everyone! (and thanks Finnulf and everey one else for the help with the other threads as well)

This should not have been that hard of a decision :) but I finally made one.

I actually bought the Wii. I agree with you guys here that the experience for Rock Band will be a better one on 360, but I chose the Wii mainly for one reason...my girlfriend (who lives with me) would probably never play any of the 360 games. I'm such a casual gamer that I probably wouldn't play many either. But I know she would play a bunch of the Wii games, so I chose the Wii with that in mind.

Plus Tiger Woods 10 with Motionplus had me highly interested...and the new Tennis game with Motionplus looks cool too. Then I saw Punch Out and got kind of psyched.

So...I just went for the Wii. Again...not an easy decision by any means...and this comes from a 29 year old home owner ;) Too bad 360 never came out with a Motion control as of yet.

As far as GH Met is concerned...I figure worst case scenario is I buy it and a GH drum set. Not ideal...but not the worst thing in the world either.

But again I appreciate everyone's help!

nullqwerty, that is exactly why we own a Wii. It is the right console for us because (for the most part) I am not a thumb-buster. Even the few thumb-buster games we have are relatively "light" (SSBB, Mario Strikers Charged, Lego Star Wars). I consider myself a fan of Wii motion control games that actually get the motion right... I'm also rather ga-ga about Tiger Woods 10 after watching the vid on the Nintendo Channel. :D

GHM is a good game... but it is not US$50/C$60 good. I would have originally buckled for C$30-40 before I tried it... now that I've played it, I'm thinking C$20-25. If you do end up getting the GHWT drums, they store just as easily as the RB drums. I think the orange cymbal = blue pad feature is a selling point for the RB2/Wii, albeit a minor one.

Concur w/ those using the Wii, although I do know the 360 is no slouch! :D If one owns both systems (or a Wii & PS3) then I would make the "more powerful" console the RB home. But if Wii is all you have, RB2 is rather awesome.

At least w/ RB2 Wii, you are getting essentially the same feature-loaded game & will be equally "community connected" (RB2 is the best apology for Wii RB1 anyone could have come up with). Less DLC ATM, but that is changing & Wii still sees Tuesday updates just like 360. No full album DLs on Wii - everything is a single. So if you want a full album (Wii store currently has Ten, Nothing's Shocking, Chinese Democracy, Moving Pictures, The Cars, Texas Flood albums available with the other existing ones on the way as well as a ton of singles found on the other consoles), there is no album discount. Each track will run you 200 Points/$2 each.

I believe it was Finnulf who determined that the infamous 4GB Transcend card (non-SDHC) could hold around 200 or so tracks. My 4GB card has 60 ATM & I have around 22,000 Wii "Blocks" left to fill.

At E3 next month, when the motion control is revealed for the 360(and all signs point to that being the case), you are so going to be kicking yourself for choosing the wii.(If motion control was your main reason for going with Wii).

Wii is not a wise choice (over 360 or PS3), when you're talking RB.

I'll add this since you mentioned a drum set.

I'm a wii player and I didn't want to get multiples of instruments. I play RB with my GH3 les paul, WT guitar, the GH mic and the GH drums. No extra controllers laying around, plus I've always preferred the feel of the GH guitars over RB ones.

The nice thing about the WT drums on Wii is that the 2nd cymbal (orange) doubles as the blue pad, so it's almost like having a cymbal expansion pack.

The downside is there's no double for the yellow pad (always a cymbal) so when you get songs that are heavy on the toms, or you have expert drums with the snare/hi-hat reversed (i.e. everlong) it's damn near impossible. Other than that they're just fine for RB.

I didn't want RB drums cuz I didn't want the downgraded charts in GH. The WT drums definitely kick ass for GH:M since they're charted properly. If you have no desire to play GH:WT or don't mind the dropped charting in GH:M then either set would probably be fine with you.

Since I've found myself playing pretty much only RB since it released though, it kind of makes me want a RB set that's proper for the game, although I don't see myself spending that money when my WT set is working as it's sposed to.

I googled for over an hour just on this topic alone. I couldn't find anything pointing to the likelihood of MS releasing a Motion Control. Instead I found rumors of an MS Motion Control being released imminently starting back in 2007. No official responses from Microsoft though except one stating that Motion Control rumors are not true. I also found a 3rd party releasing a motion control for 360 and PS3 this fall, but no games have been announced that use it and it looks dead before it's even released.

If you think about it anyways...why would MS do it? They've had all this time and all this opportunity to release one and they haven't. They've got a highly successful system with a devoted following and the only market share they're primarily losing to Nintendo in is the one for children under 12. That never really seemed to be their target market anyways. The 360 is already half way through it's lifecycle. Now is no time to confuse consumers, alienate owners, or anger publishers. They're doing fine without the motion control and I think they'll stick that way. Especially since a big argument against the Wii is that most games don't translate well with the Motion Control. I'm sure they've discussed it at MS and had plenty of meetings concerning it. But if they haven't released it yet, it probably means they chose not to and would only break it out in an emergency situation.

Of course that's just my opinion/theory and I could be wrong. And so if they do release one...Ca Sera Sera. You buy a new system every 5 years anyway. Then in that case I didn't get the absolute best one this time, but I made the best judgment call I could make with the information I had at the time. Oh well...I still get Zelda, Super Mario, Punch Out, Smash Brothers, and other cool exclusives. All that I really miss out on is extras and better graphics/sound. Oh well...the next gen system will be better than all the current ones anyway...

November we got the Mii like Avatar's.

There have been rumors for quite some time about 360 motion control.

Microsoft has stated that at this year's E3 they are going to announce something earth shattering, or game changing(not exact quotes but that was what they were meaning).

So it just seems like now is the time for them to go "Look it has Wii controls just like the Wii but it's on a next gen system with HD graphics! Also the 360 arcade pack is cheaper than the Wii!"

So you can see where this is going. ;)

I for one hope they don't.

The motion control is a gimmick at best(to me anyway), and a hinderance to gameplay at worst.

For the most part motion controls was an unmitigated disaster on the PS3, and I don't see it faring much better on the 360.

So I can do with out it on my 360.

I could be wrong(it won't be the first or last time that happened), but I'll be really surprised if they don't announce some kind of waggle controller for the 360 at E3.

Yeah...I mean, who knows? For all we know they could announce a new version of the 360 and had I bought the 360 I would have kicked myself then. Their official statement is:

"Microsoft is gearing up for a big presence at E3 which will completely transform how people think about home entertainment. We're excited about the momentum that is building in the industry in anticipation of our June 1st media briefing, which will kick off E3 in blockbuster style."

If that's a motion control, that's pretty "Me too" style and not really as transformational as they're promising, so I think that would be a disappointment. It could be a motion control with 5 other announcements...again, who knows?

Truth be told, had I realized that E3 was right around the corner, I may have waited...but oh well.

In the end...360 is a more powerful system with better graphics and sound. There's no disputing that. Wii is arguably better for the casual gamer (i.e. me), the inexperienced gamer (i.e. my girlfriend) and the type of gamer that is looking for something new and different from video games (i.e. me again). Long term, 360 could win in this area as well...but so long as I enjoy what I got, then all money is not lost.

Besides...theirs always selling on eBay for those times where you wish you had taken a different route ;)

As a Wii owner and Rocker, I say the 360.

The Wii version is good, it's fun, has all the features you'll need to have fun, and the Wii is a great little system for what it does and games that take advantage of it. (Wii supports 5.1 surround sound btw, so that's not a difference)

But the 360/PS3 versions have better graphics (least of your concerns though with RB), more to the engine (the crowd is there, more animations, more clothing), better storage solutions, songs are cheaper due to bundles (if you want the bundles offered), and there are more peripherals out for it.

What pushed me over to getting a PS3 for RB after already owning the Wii stuff was this: The ability to import RB1 and the track packs. RB1 has an awesome setlist, and the Wii version is feature bare and non-exportable (though still fun).

I went PS3 over 360 for the free online, PS2 library (I got a backwards compatible one), and the built in Wifi, which made it initially and long term a cheaper solution for me.

PhreaK,

If you want a "proper" Wii RB drum experience in terms of pads relating to RB charts, and can live w/o cymbals & wireless connectivity (positive flipside - no batteries for drums), GameStop will sell you a brand new standalone RB1 Wii drum kit in it's box for $29.99.

Much noiser than either WT or RB2 drums, but cheap & functional.

360 all the way. I can explain in one acronym:

DLC

I know that Wii has DLC too, but not a lot of it. Get the 360 if you want access to the full library of DLC songs, which you definitely do. Rock Band's DLC is amazing.

Last tally done on this forum (a different thread) claimed the Wii Store is currently upwards of 40% "complete" after 3.5 months of service. With Wii getting weeks of only back catalog updates, other weeks the same new stuff as 360/PS3 (which burns the completion candle @ both ends) and in some cases New Releases ALONG WITH catalog (see last weeks Jane's + catalog stuff Tuesday Wii update), the Wii Store could in fact have every track that 360/PS3 have available by years end.

If you have to have them all available RIGHT NOW, you need 360 or PS3. If you want 40+% available RIGHT NOW & are patient enough to wait on the other <60%-which gets doled out every Tuesday-you'll do just fine w/ the Wii DLC.

Eh, that goes against my having 2 drum sets in house, and also, for me a proper experience definitely involves the add on cymbals!

I also like having the wii-mote used as the power/wireless connector for the drums (I use a recharge station) so batteries aren't a concern there.
