View Full Version : U2 for Rock Band

I'd love to see some U2 for rock band. They're one of the most influencial rock band's of all time and deserve to be in this game. The Edge has some great guitar riffs and Bono is an incredible vocalist. Some of my suggestions for songs would be:
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Where the Streets Have No Name
Bad
Beautiful Day
Vertigo
Elevation
Here's to hoping!

U2 the MOST overrated band EVER.
Mastodon.
Anti-Flag.
The Who.
Dropkick Murphys.
The Pouges.
Wolfmother.
403 Forbiddena.
Some GOOD music for you.
You're right. Now I've seen the light. Great post, thanks for correcting my ways, and the ways of a few million others. Not sure what we would've done without you.

Was that necessary? U2 are a popular band whether you like it or not. I'd take U2 over any of the bands you've mentioned including The Who. That doesn't mean I'm going to disrespect your music taste though. Grow up a little, eh?

I can understand if U2 is not your thing. especially if you are younger and discovered them post Achtung Baby. But hating U2 is like kicking your grandmother in the head and then pushing her down a flight of stairs.
U2 would be my number 1 choice for DLC.

I will buy every U2 DLC. New Years Day is my favorite.
How about HMX put in some popular bands on this game instead of little known bands that like 1% of the population really likes. Variety is cool, but when you're only bringing out 3 DLC songs a week, the popular ones should come first I think.

I love U2. Love them. However, I also enjoy 'discovering' bands via games like this. It's good to get the balance right.
I'd take any single or album from U2. If Under a Blood Red Sky was feasible, that'd be my no1 choice. Might be hard being a live album though.

I second this emotion whole-heartedly. I know lots of people that hate U2, but NONE of them will deny their influence on popular music. You can't have a game about the rock experience without bands like U2.
Personally, I'm not a Black Sabbath fan. I think they kind of suck. But I'm fully aware of their influence and don't deny it in the least. I just simply don't download the content. It's pretty much as simple as that.

U2 would work because everyone kinda likes them. They arent everyones favorite but not nearly as polarizing as a heavy metal band.

Thus, we pretty much end up playing Radiohead, Weezer, or Bon Jovi atleast 3-4 times every time we play because that's the only ones they know. Also, the DLC songs that are currently available are quite difficult. Yea, the hard ones should be in there, but there should a couple easier ones, such as U2, that people new to the game can still rock on to. I've also "discovered" a couple songs that I've grown to like that I normally wouldn't be exposed to. The song "Highway Star" is stuck in my head from every time I turn on my xbox to play Rockband.

How about nothing but early U2? Think of playing these songs:
The Fly
Acrobat
Even Better Than the Real Thing
I Will Follow
Bad
Desire
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
New Year's Day
Basically, anything Achtung Baby or before. No Pop, Atomic Bomb, or any of that other crap (although Discotheque might be fun).
Dangs... Playing those songs in Rock Band really would be better than the real thing! :)

All of those would be good scottzee, but don't forget:
Until The End of The World (great guitar solo)
Where the Streets Have No Name
Bullet The Blue Sky
All I Want is You (great guitar ending)
Love is Blindness
God Part II
Zoo Station
Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
etc.
And yes these are all better than most of their recent stuff, but I'll take post-Achtung Baby too if it gets U2 in the game.

Amen, brother (especially on Until the End of the World). I've only been here one day, but hey, you're my favorite user here! Love the name. I'm an Achtung Baby fanatic (and of course U2 in general). Out of curiosity, what other bands do you like?

I'd love some of U2's older stuff (the albums that invariably get overlooked by everyone who says they dislike U2)-- the songs "I Will Follow," "Out of Control," "New Year's Day," "A Sort of Homecoming," and "Pride" would be pretty phenomenal in RB.

Love the new name. It seems U2 fans run generally 50-50 on Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree as their best (with a few oddballs picking something else) - I'm definitely on the Achtung Baby side.
Dying to have some Spoon on Rock Band as well. I like most everything in RB except the metal - just not much of a fan of metal (although I like Enter Sandman). Would like to see some Def Lepard, Cure, more REM, Green Day, and more in that ilk. Will be getting the Punk pack this week, and can't wait for My Iron Lung - more Radiohead would be good.
What else do you want to see added to the game?

Yeah, you're absolutely right about U2 fans either leaning toward Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree.
I don't even have RB yet (getting it for Christmas), but here's some bands I'd like to see some DLC for:
Rage Against the Machine
The Smashing Pumpkins
Audioslave
The Offspring
Bad Religion
Everclear (early Everclear, that is)
The Killers
Rocco DeLuca and the Burden
The Beatles (of course)
The Police (I know there's a pack out, but I don't like those three songs)

I'd have to agree with you guys. Achtung Baby is by far the best U2 album. In fact, I think that Harmonix should make the ENTIRE album available for RB. How freakin' incredible would it be to play "the fly" and "mysterious ways."

Some good ones in their I'd like to see - don't know Rocco DeLuca - I'll have to look them up.
I got the police pack - I like it ok. Roxanne is fun to sing. Which Police songs would you like to see instead?
bricio - The Fly is one of my favorites as well, but listening to it the other day, not so sure how it would work in RB. Most of the lyrics are spoken more than sung, apart from the "shine like a burning star falling from the sky" falsetto part, but even that part has the main Bono spoken parts overlayed (I think the studio version is Bono in both parts, but live The Edge sings the falsetto parts) - they'd probably have to stay with the main part and just put the falsetto in the background. So drums, guitar and bass would be fun, but not a great vocal to sing. I'd take it anyway, of course - C'mon Harmonix - full Achtung Baby, please!
It's interesting, when I listen to music now I find myself thinking "Could this work in Rock Band?"

Nah, The Joshua Tree is by far their best album. Must be an age thing if you pick Achtung Baby!! I'd take them both though. I remember seeing U2 in 92 open with Zoo Station - still send shivers down my spine thinking about it!

Yes! I saw them in DC that year. It was a great opening, and then right into The Fly with the sensory overload flashing messages - ZooTV rocked!

I agree, but I'm afraid that they would be more likely to tie it into newer material, like the Vertigo iPod commercial. I do like and listen to all of their stuff, including the new, but for this game it's gotta be the older stuff.

I saw the them in 1987. They were amazing. I think The Joshua tree is one of the best albums of all time by any band, and Achtung Baby almost as good. The The Fly and Mysterious ways make such a great one two punch I feel like they sort of over shadow the rest of the album. All that said, when It comes to Rock Band I think U2's earlier stuff will work better in the game.

SBS would indeed be great, but as someone else posted, I'd like the Under A Blood Red Sky version or another live version - studio version is great, but the live versions take it all the way to eleven. (speaking of - can we get some cheesey Spinal Tap in the game as well? Cracks me up playing Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight on GH. How about Sex Farm Woman or Big Bottoms? Classic rock is great, but they gotta put the occasional cheesey song in as well!)

I saw the Joshua tree tour in 1987 at Wembley Stadium. It was the night Bono asked a stranger from the audience to come on and play - and the guy rocked.

I also saw them in '92 in AZ. That was one of my all time favorite shows. The Edge is such an amazing guitarist. It amazes me what he can do, the sounds that he can get are so HUGE. I'd have to say that he's the biggest influence in my playing. So much so that my son's middle name is Edge.

I've seen 3 U2 shows, and they all rank among the greatest moments in my life. I bought General admissions tickets on eBay for their 2005 show in Pittsburgh. I stood outside for 6 hours in the cold and the rain, and it paid off, as I got to stand right in front of the tip of the ellipse!
Here are my suggestions:
-I Will Follow
-Electric Co.
-Sunday Bloody Sunday
-Where the Streets Have No Name
-Bullet the Blue Sky
-Red Hill Mining Town
-Even Better Than the Real Thing
-The Fly
-Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
-Beautiful Day
-Elevation (Tomb Raider Mix)
-Vertigo
-City of Blinding Lights
Seriously. You don't know HOW FAST I would snatch up any and all U2 content.

yes yes the plight of africa, blah blah blah. lets throw more money at the problem because the last twenty years of doing so have been SOOOO effective. It's like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. People like BONO go over there and throw some money around and take some photo-ops and act like they are making a huge difference but they are not, and money will not solve the problems on that continent. it takes some serious restructuring at practically every level to get the warlords to quit stomping on the heads of the people they claim to be helping while fattening their own pockets. Bono's heart is in the right place but money cant solve africa's problems...action can. my contribution is knowing that its going to take more than writing a stupid check to fix those issues.
as for the edge, i think hes neither overrated or underrated but marketable. you tell someone to sound like U2 and they know what to do because he has his own style. Thats commendable. Tom Morello has the same kind of thing going for him. speaking of which some audioslave and rage aganst the machine would kick ass as well as more soundgarden, nirvana, red hot chili peppers, etc.

Bono certainly does a lot more than write checks. There are a lot of celebrities who are in it for the photo-op. Bono is not on that list.
But you know what would be a really worthy cause?
What we need now is a Concert for the Patch. All the the bands in both Rock band and Guitar hero should get together and hold a concert to raise awareness about the plight of PS3 owners who have no way to play bass guitar.
U2 should headline and announce that all U2 tracks will be available in both games for free.

It's so hopeless we shouldn't even bother at?? You make it sound like helping others in need is a bad thing. Lets go ahead and close all homeless shelters in America while we're at it. They're all hopeless druggies and drunks right? Screws others. Lets just think about ourselves. I mean, would you rather have Bono spend all his time and money doing drugs and getting high like other rockstars? You don't like what he's doing, just ignore it. Some people actually care for others. Anyways, I don't think this type of discussion is proper for this forum so I'll leave it at that.

I'm really surprised to see all the U2 hate. I can understand if you don't like certain albums or if you generally dislike them, but have an honest listen to the first three tracks on The Joshua Tree and find me a better trio of songs to EVER open an album.
Track 1: Where the Streets Have No Name
Track 2: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Track 3: With or Without You

Like 'em or not you cannot argue U2's influence in Rock history. There are so many guiatists that have been influenced by Edge's sound. In fact, the first time I heard Coldplay's X & Y it sounded like Edge did some playing on the album. And as far as Bono goes, the guy could be sitting on his ass doing absolutely nothing, like most musicians, but the guy has some convictions and is actually doing domething about it. He is a person of influence and is using his position as a platform to try and get people educated and involved in those who who are less fortunate than we are. I appreciate and respect all that he has done for the people of Africa and the fact that there's some people that think he's a pompous ***** for caring about someone other than himself just shows the sad state that humanity is in.
But back on track with the thread, I want to play some U2 on RB, now!

The albums Boy, War, and October would be sweet for Rock Band. Current U2 is good and all, but they really had fires in the belly back in the day when they actually stood for something. Retro U2 would rock on Rock Band.

Great job on the list BoyWonder - you picked some great ones without straying into a strictly "best of" list. However, I don't think you can't have a 3-song pack from Joshua Tree without Streets.

You have no idea how pleased I am to wander into this forum and see an 11 page thread for U2 to be in Rock Band. Of all the major classic bands that were left out, I want U2 the most (then Guns N Roses, but probably will be disappointed on that score).
I think anything less than a full album DLC would be sacrilege. As for me, there's just one song I need to see:
With Or Without You
My personal favorite song ever.
Others I'd play the hell out of:

Most new music sucks though, when you compare it against some of the stuff that has stood the test of time. Honestly, does the 2000 music in Rock Band even compare to the 1970 music in Rock Band?
I think we'll see U2 eventually. They've been very open in recent years about licensing their music (iTunes advertisements, special edition iPods, advertisements for 2006 World Cup, songs played during sports events on NBC/ABC/etc). It's only a matter of time.

Um, I'm 26 and I like music that came out well before I was born more than what comes out today. Some exceptions to that, certainly, but the 60s and 70s produced some effing good music. Kind of closeminded to write it off just because it was produced a few decades ago...

I agree, I'm 30 and yet one of my most favorite bands is the Beatles. There's a lot of good music now adays, however, you've got to give props to the forerunners of rock. Without them, a lot of bands today wouldn't have the influence and inspiration that is found in their music. So bring on the Irish rockers, I need to crank up some Edge riffs!

I've been a U2 fan since I was a toddler, and I'd love to see some U2 in RB.
Personally, I think War would work best in the context of rock Band because it's nature is very much a four-man band record. the only instances I can think of where instruments that aren't normal rock instruments are used are the violin in Sunday Blooday Sunday and Drowning man(which I would ADORE singing. I defy you to get more emotion in your voice than that song!) and the horn in Red Light.
Also on a personal note, I'd love seeing 'The Unforgettable Fire' record as DLC. Such incredible songs on that record, though the experimental nature makes it a very improbable release. Same goes with Zooropa...though I'd love to play that record, especially the title track, there are too many synths.
I totally agree with the previous sentiments, however, and would love to see Achtung and Joshua on the DLC list. Imagine adding your echo switch to Edge's already present delay in 'The Fly'...mmm, i'm shuddering at the thought of it. The cascade of sound would be incredible. And the bass groove in 'Mysterious Ways'...that'd be a breath of fresh air to the somewhat repetitive life of the bassist. not to mention, all these songs present a fair challenge to all the band members to play.
On a side note, I've been known to sing snatches of 'Bad' during big rock endings. =]

Maybe U2 will make their up coming album available for Rock Band. I think that I read that it's coming out sometime this year. Bono said that it's going to be one of their most unique sounding albums ever. In fact, he claims that there may not even be a band out there right now that is currently emulating this type of "sound." I hope it's not too weird, but the boys from Ireland have yet to let me down (except maybe for "Pop" but there's still some gems in there.)

The idea of a completely different U2 album is both intriguing and scary to me. Let's just hope it's not like Pop.
Anyway, I'd pay $2.99 (260 MSP) for each U2 track, if they released them as DLC in Rock Band. Especially if the song was "Bullet the Blue Sky". That song would be great for RB. Great band. I have no idea why they've gone untouched in GH and RB. Maybe it's licensing reasons or something.

They usually release albums in November, so we have some time to wait. At least we have the U2:3D movie being released to theaters this month.
As far as their "new" sound - I gave up believing Bono's hype a long time ago. I like all of their stuff, but he said Atomic Bomb was supposed to be Punk Rock from Venus and their best ever. I'd say no on both accounts. I'll take any U2 in Rock Band, but I'd rather have Achtung Baby and earlier.

not really, more of a 'Live Aid' type bit-"And so not FAAAADE, NOT FADE AWAY!" i don't recall what songs have BRE's, but it sounds killer on 'Don't Fear The Reaper' when you can sing it and 'When you were Young'.
And personally, I loved Pop. I just watched the Popmart DVD I got for the holidays, and it was pure win. I know a lot of people aren't into the Pop, but personally I'd love to see 'Mofo', 'Last night on Earth' and 'If God will Send His Angels' as DLC. POPPACK...kinda has a ring to it, no?

[EDIT: Forgot to mention, 40 would have a BRE so we could sing "How looonng to sing this song" for about 5 minutes!]

I will never admit how much I would pay for that.
Nice list, I would make some minor tweaks (I'd like to see Lemon as a bonus song just for the vocals) but you pretty much covered all the bases.
Oh wait. there should be a sweepstakes where the winning band is flown to Bolder to play Rock Band on stage at red rocks.

Oh Hell Yeah! As the opening act for U2!
I had Lemon on the list originally, but ended up taking it off because it was too keyboard centric. But I won't argue with putting it in the bonus section for the vocals! However, you won't catch me trying to sing in that falsetto! That would be too painful for anyone in a 50 mile radius of my house.

By what instrument did you organize those tiers to? because there is no WAY that Mofo is less challenging than The Fly when it comes to Vocals, Bass and Drums. Jesus, Mofo is The Fly of bass parts. And A Sort of Homecoming would be higher than apprentice if organized by vocal difficulty. I've been singing that song for years and still can't have enough breath for that vocal freestyle between 'Scream' and 'Tonight'
I do like the 40 BRE idea, though. do it like it used to happen in the old days, like have the BRE end first for Vocals, second for guitar, third for bass and just have the drums churning along until that climactic KSSSH! and yeah, have the crowd singing the chorus, too.
While we're on the topic of intruments, we need the Popmart instruments. We need that mirrorball Les Paul and what I affectionately call 'The Crabclaw' Bass. You know the one, that big, yellow number used during all of 3 songs. It looked and sounded awesome, though.
Also, two words-

Good points on difficulty levels - I tend to think of difficulty levels from point of view of the guitar since I play that the most in the game (even though I'm just mediocre on Hard). Even saying that though, I'm not a great judge of how difficult a guitar part is just from listening - I have no musical talent whatsoever, just love playing this game! So there may be some in there that should be tweaked.
Miss Sarajevo would be sick for vocals! Nice call - should be in Bonus section.

I like South Park but it is not exactly where I go to back up my arguments.
I was just thinking about how many bands that I though sucked when I was young that I later grew to appreciate (and music I loved that I am now embarrassed by). Music is such a personal thing and people feel so strongly about it. I wonder why that is?
I remember in High school I had a tight group of six friends. We were totally inseparable, all six of us used to go everywhere in my friends ford Mavrick. We used to always listen to the Police because it was the only band all six of us liked. On girl hated U2 and we used to drop her off first and then immediately switch over to U2. ahh good times.

Oh my g.... just found this on a U2 site I frequent:
I just got my copy of Electronic Gaming Monthly. In addition to mentioning a game based on Aerosmith is on the way, they also added:
"I'm hearing two more Guitar Hero titles are also in the works, bringing GH3's sequel count to four. And one may star a group that rocks in mysterious ways."
Can anyone confirm this? Can't find the article online. Does it sound to you guys that they are saying the whole game would be U2 or just U2 would be the most prevelant aspect (maybe a boss battle with Edge for instance)?
After the whole patch thing, I said I'd never buy another GH title, but my allegiance is to U2 more than to Rock Band.
OK, Harmonix, I'd much rather get a Rock Band U2 set - the gauntlet is about to be thrown down! Get some U2 quick!!! We gave you the set list a few posts ago, so no excuses!

If this is true, it may not be good for RB U2 fans. There's a big possibility that they'll save all the material for a standalone game.
I'm being pessimistic about it because I think of it a particular way: Why would U2 want to be an "addition" to something preexisting? They might want the entire cake and eat it...i.e. They're own GH game.
It's sad to the dedicated fans.
Wil-San...
I didn't learn to appreciate U2's music until October 05 at the tender age of 25. I knew of them, heard the songs, thought they were OK, etc... Instead, I was in that kick of NIN/hard rock for the decade previous. It took a long time to appreciate good music.
Point being...
Let some of the youngins' come into their own by reintroducing their genre in this format.

IN fact, imo the only thing that GH3 has on RB is the wireless Les Paul (but that's only because the RB Strat is wired and doesn't work). While I'd enjoy playing Edge's guitar riffs, I want to sing all of my favorite songs and lay down some of Larry's drum beats. Oh man, that would suck. U2 belongs in Rock Band, not a GH game. I honestly don't know why GH is continuing as a franchise. Everythign it can ever attain to being is eclipsed by Rock Band. Why would you want to be pigeonholed into one instrument (okay, two if we're VERY lenient and count bass as a second instrument) when you could have all three (or four, see bass guitar)?
I want to SING U2 the most, so this would really bum me out. And drums are No. 2, so screwed there as well.
Crossing my fingers we hear this is just speculation, and very soon.
EDIT: According to Wiki (so in other words, complete speculation most likely) Neversoft is working closely with Aerosmith and Boston for GH4. Which sucks, because that means DLC from those bands will now be minimal at best if this is true. No mention of U2.
Man, this pisses me off. I wanted to see a healthy dose of Boston, Guns N Roses, and Aerosmith in Rock Band, now there will probably be none. ****ing publishers. Apparently GH4 will have more instruments, and will be a second Rock Band under Activision's auspices. Apparently they see the limits of the GH franchise as well...

There's probably going to be a big announcement about it becoming DLC months before download availability. I seriously doubt we're going to open our browsers one Monday morning and see it available.
The smart thing for U2 and RB to do is to pick 3 from each album: 1 mainstream, 1 fan request, 1 obscure(to the non-fan).
We also have to be able to accept the criticism from the opposition when and if any tracks are released.

I know that repeating a rumor doesn't make it true, but now joystiq as picked up the Guitar Hero U2 rumor (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/14/rumor-guitar-hero-sequel-to-star-u2/). Man I hope that is not true. Or at least it doesn't preclude U2 from being in both games. GH has a total ego appeal to the star in question (a friend knows Steven Tyler and said he was totally giddy about going in to have motion capture done) hopefully Edge is too cool for that sort of sillyness and U2 will opt for the game that is all about the music. Being digitized for a game is right up there with having your own saturday morning cartoon (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail126.html).

I love that RB is doing lots of DLC but I am getting the feeling that they don't really care what people are asking for in these forums. I did a search and I was unable to find a single request for "Last Train to Clarksville". I'm not sure how much they look at the ultimate setlist thread either but I do know that there's a request a song link at the bottom of the page. I have a hard time believing that they don't at least peruse those requests. So maybe a better way to get their attention is to flood the request a song daily with U2 requests. The U2 3D movie comes out in a week (1/23) to IMAX theaters (getting great reviews). The reported set list is:
Vertigo
New Year's Day
Beautiful Day
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
Love and Peace or Else
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet the Blue Sky
Miss Sarajevo
Pride (In The Name of Love)
Where The Streets Have No Name
One
The Fly
With or WIthout You
Yahweh
Needs more Achtung Baby, but it sounds to me like a pretty good place for Rock Band to start with U2 - how about a movie tie-in Harmonix?

sheesh, this is getting me down. No UK release date and no U2. In a way the no U2 part stops me going insane.

Well, I don't think flooding the request box will do much good myself. I mean, we don't exactly want to annoy them out of it. O the other hand, though, it IS designed for request purposes...
In any case, patience is key! You have ninety odd songs out there that all provide a great expierience in thier own ways, and while I'm not saying that you shouldn't clamor for U2 (because I know I am) there are other songs to tide you over.
As for a U23D tie-in, it is possible. I know they have plans to release songs from...I think it was Metallica's upsoming album. While Metallica is not my thing, it does show Harmonix is willing to do tie-ins.

Seems like a short set list though.

That is a major bummer dude. Not sure how long it will play, but the release is staggered in two stages. First stage is IMAX only on 1/23. Second stage is select 3D capable regular theaters sometime in mid-February. So hopefully you'll be back in time to catch it on the regular screens at least. IMAX will be better (huge screens!) but regular theater will be good too.
The movie is only 85 minutes long - speculation is that they felt the average fan wouldn't be too interested in a two hour 3D movie. The rabid U2 fans are disappointed that "City of Blinding Lights" opener was cut, as well as some Achtung Baby songs that were played during the filming which was on the South American leg of the tour (Until the End of the World, Zoo Station, Love is Blindness). But early reviews indicate that the 3D special effects during "The Fly" are off the charts awesome.

Just read an IGN article that stated they're looking at releasing 200+ DLC in '08. Here's to hoping that the Irish Rockers appear in RB. The article also made mention to "several" albums that will available for DLC! (Fingers Crossed) Achtung Baby!

Vertigo
That would be my fav 3 pack.
But I'd take anything from them.

There is a poll up on page one for which band you'd most like to see in the game, and U2 is one of the choices. Currently 3rd behind Zeppelin and Guns and Roses.

I just read a thread that "leaked" both this week's Oasis DLC and next week's DLC prior to Marmonix confirmation that said that Vertigo is one of the songs that they're planning on releasing this year. Let's hope that this is a reliable source and that Vertigo is just the start of a bunch of U2 DLC.

If you are talking about the one that links to a Gamespot thread, it is unfortunately a hoax. The author on the Gamespot thread admits to making it up on page 5.
Still holding out hope though.

I don't think this has been said, but 'Rattle and Hum' would be a good album pack. Since so much of it IS live material, it'd really have an authentic feel.

I will definitely add my support to U2 DLC. A great album DLC would be The Joshua Tree. And here is a 3 song pack I would love:
Sunday Bloody Sunday

wow it's cool that this thread is long enough that people aren't even reading it to see if what they are posting has already been covered.
(I am not bashing you - it happens all the time who has time to go back and read 230 odd posts) I just hope Harmonix takes notice. I am sure that U2 tracks won't be cheep to license and they need to know that there is significant interest out there.
Just for the record my pics for a three pack would be:
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullit the Blue sky
The Fly
carry on then

I have tickets for U2 3D in 6 and a half hours! Can't wait. Only thing better would be U2 in Rock Band.
I can't pick just three, but The Fly would be in any list of mine.

Please post a review!
Wow! The 3D effects were fantastic. This is a must see for U2 fans for sure (STOP HERE if you don't want spoilers).
I was curious to see what the audience reaction would be. I followed discussion on the Interference fan forum indicating some die-hard fans were going to the show my group attended. They seemed to indicate they intended to treat it more like a concert than a movie (ie, standing, singing, etc.). However, in the end, movie theater decorum prevailed (perhaps partly due to the steep pitch to the IMAX theater - I could see losing your balance with the 3D glasses on). Anyway, while you could tell everyone was into it, it wasn't the community concert experience I thought it might become. Lots of leg tapping, head nodding, and smattering of applause after songs, but no full on singing, dancing, carrying on like you were at a concert.
Regardless, the show was superb. Right from the opening credits the 3D was used in very cool ways. Show opens with some stylized shots of the crowd entering the stadium. Other than that, the show is pure concert footage, no interviews or behind the scenes shots like Rattle and Hum.
Vertigo leads off with Bono's spanish-challenged countdown, "Uno, Dos, Tres, CATORCE", and we are off. We quickly get some cool overhead shots of Larry's drumset, and some slightly panned back views of Bono and Edge. Then suddenly there is Bono 40-feet tall and seemingly 5-feet in front of you, reaching out his hand and you can't help but duck to avoid getting poked in the eye. It was hilarious - couldn't help but laugh the first few times. Eventually you get used to it, but at first it is very disconcerting.
I won't go into too much further detail, but hit on the highlights for me:
First I'd say that the emotional impact of Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own was staggering. While I think it's not their best ballad, the obvious catharsis it provides Bono with is really brought home in this setting. The camera work and 3D effects were extremely well done to enhance the song's emotional impact.
The trilogy of Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and Bullet The Blue Sky is fantastic. It's the awesomeness of the Chicago Vertigo DVD, but with the added 3D IMAX experience.
Miss Sarajevo - Bono's opera voice was spot on - amazing vocal performance.
Streets - crowd shots were very cool - difficult to describe, but the wave-like effect of seeing the crowd bouncing up and down in 3D was phenomenal.
The Fly - slightly disappointed with it - they went a little too far with the 3D effects in my opinion. Lot's of overlapping text zooming in at you - needed to be cut back about 25%. Still great song, and great concept for the 3D.
Other than that I'd say you just can't believe how cool it is to see the band members right in your face playing their instruments. The jump cuts weren't as frequent or severe as some of the band's previous concert DVDs, but I could still just watch The Edge play for far longer stretches than what they showed us. Still, very cool.
And to bring it all back to topic, several times during the film I thought to myself, we HAVE to have these songs in ROCK BAND! Please, Harmonix, do whatever it takes - these songs are too good not to be in the game!
I'd love to hear others reactions.

Dude, I can't wait to go see it. I'm hoping that a theater closer to me picks it up. Right now there's only 1 imax in phx that has it and it's about 45 min. from me. But if that's the only place it's going to be then I'll have to make the trek.
Here's for U2 in rockband.

It is DEFINITELY worth a 45 minute drive. I work in DC (10 minutes from IMAX), but live an hour away in the Maryland suburbs. Already planning to see it again some time this weekend.
It will be coming to regular theaters next month, but IMAX is better. You may want to check how long it is playing at your IMAX though - Hannah Montana 3D comes out soon and may push U2 out quickly.
And to bring it back on topic again, seeing the movie makes me really want to play the guitar solos in Bullet, The Fly, One, With or Without You, etc. in Rock Band! The Edge is the best!

Only U2 content I'd ever D/L is Vertigo, so I can make a total ass out of myself and get my friends rolling around on the ground as I do my best "Bono is an assclown" impression. :D

U2 in Rock Band = Epic Fail
Could you even really call U2 rock? Don't they have their genre that is in between overrated and crap?
That just my opinion though.
Yeah Yeah Yeah is just something funny to yell randomly in the mic not seriously for a lyric for the game. So i'm going to have to say "NO NO NO NO".

Like it or not, U2 is one of the most successful and most influencial bands in history. Sorry if you don't like them, but they have sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide and were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame the first year they were eligible for it.
U2 deserves to be in Rock Band
With or Without You
Sunday Bloody Sundady
Beautiful Day
Would be a sweet 3-pack.
