Well I did not think I'd be unveiling this information, but since it relates to rock band I'll share.
For the past two years, I never use my fingers or thumb to strum with the X-plorer or les paul.
I see many posts about new guitars not registering alternative strumming.
I tested it out for about two hours, and yes the guitar registers 1/16 note's flawlessly , but comes up a little short on 1/32 notes * example near the ending of creep* I can strum regular also.
When I used my method of strumming I use personally, I found that it registers the 1/32 notes perfectly within no problem, this makes me feel much better.
I'll be posting a pic of 100% creep soon.
I place the palm of my hand, over the strum bar.
* Make sure its pressed in tight against your skin, should be able to move it extremely fast while keeping your balance & it feels natural*
I can move my wrist / hand way faster than just up and down with my thumb.
Try it out and tell me what you think.

I place the palm of my hand, over the strum bar , with my thumb and pointer finger; I leave the strum bar between them.

Just noticed I did not pick up the Strat fender... lol I'm so use to this Xplorer.
if its going to bother someone that much, I'll grab the fender and take another pic.

How do you know that you have 4th gen guitar? Did you open it to check for induction loops?

I think I can move my wrist much faster then using my hand like that. I play real guitar for about 4 years+, and I am used to regular strumming. Just seems kinda weird, i'll try it out, but I like playing the RB guitar like a real guitar, just feels more realistic and fun.

I can't do crap with the Rock Band guitar, so I went back to the GH2 guitar. There was a 100% Creep thread that just got closed that I wanted in on. Dont know why it closed. But anyway, I just turned the game on and did Creep on Expert at 98%. Sure I could do better if I cared to practice but it's too slow and boring to keep on playiing. But with someone offering 5000 Microsoft points to do Creep at 99% + 100% vocals on Expert at the same time, I figured I would try.
Don't see what the issue with 1/32 notes is. You just don't need to panic and get the timing right. Just a hair too fast or too slow and you'll miss a crap load of notes. Creep is kind of slow, you you need to strum kind of slow...you know...slow for a 1/32 anyway.
I play the guitar for real, so it would be completely unnatural to strum with the cup of my hand. Finger and thumb work for me. What's funny is, when I play Bass on Rock Band, I slap it as if I were playing an actual bass. Works.
