Same. I only download single songs for joke songs. like Rick Astely's Never Gonna Give You Up.

On the OP's topic, I have music from 1950-now. Everything from Pop-hiphop-rock-metal-techno. The closest thing I get to country is southern rock though.

I'm with Blueye's 2nd post. Paganini to Pavarotti to Poison to Patsy Cline to Pantera. (Wow, that may be the first time anyone's ever said that.).

Different bands in 1 genre doesn't make a balanced experience.

I'll be frank. You can come across as an *******. But with how much we have in common in music taste it makes me wonder, am I an ******* too? BTW, I am the same way, ALBUMS ONLY! Single songs only promote crap 'artists' who cannot compile enough good songs to put out a decent album.

I can't spend too much time going through them all, but I'll try to hit one or two from most the genres.

Radiohead
Tool
DJ Shadow
Miles Davis
Willie Nelson
Bjork/Sugar Cubes
Decendents
Block Party
Bauhaus
Beck
Black Flag
The Clash
Happy Mondays
Johnny Cash
Leon Russel
Morphine
NOFX
The Doors
The Streets
The Pixies
The Vapors
The Smiths
Pink Floyd
Deftones

OK, I went on longer than I intended. Now I feel like I should mention all the others! Oh well. I like good music. I have found it comes in many different types.

Top 10 or so would be Alice in Chains, Audioslave, Bush, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Norah Jones, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Staind, Stone Temple Pilots. One of those doesn't seem to fit, but that's just how I roll. I don't go back much past the 90s, but not a lot of people would watch Nirvana Unplugged, Alice in Chains Unplugged, and then an hour of Alanis Morissette videos like I did tonight. So in that way I guess my musical taste is a little broad.

yea I listen to both cause there are still some songs on an album i don't like. Most of the time its the songs that don't sound like the band at all. Just cause someone puts out a single dosen't mean its crap.

I like a lot of different genres and artists and can appreciate certian styles of music, but i'm probably on eof the most narrow with music. I only listen to stuff I REALLY like on a consistent basis (i.e a lot of 311)

DesiredFX

oh and btw i'm too pretentious to have single songs for artists. i only d/l ~*~albums~*~

My single-song collection is--in almost every case--a question of an artist being released on a collection of tracks from an era or in a genre for which not many albums have been released on CD. A lot of lounge-type stuff in that regard.

The next largest category is single songs that friends sent me, saying "I really like this song and want you to listen to it."

The third, final, and admittedly smallest category, are the single songs left when I realize the band is a one-hit wonder and the rest of the album is crap that I'm never going to listen to again.

And if, as Eman311 suggests, we keep the discussion to what we listen to the most out of all these large collections, I'll have to admit that it's generally one of about five artists that I'm listening to at any given time.

Manda
12-06-2007, 11:48 PM
I couldn't possibly post every artist I like, I just like way too many, into the thousands and even tens of thousands. Especially in the rock genre, but there was a time when I listened to primarily country. And then when I was 12 or 13 I listened to mostly pop and boy bands. When they started to die out in the new millenium I started into Rap and R&B. After high school I just listened to whatever I knew, or what somebody recommended (unless it's my sister, because she recommends trancy stuff that sounds good if you're on acid). So I'm really into rock right now mainly because my fiance listens to nothing but modern rock (Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.) But I like just about anything. My playlist will go from Flogging Molly to Michael Jackson to Mandy Moore to Rihanna to Korn to Styx to Loreena McKennit to video game tracks and so on.

My wife teases me all the time. I have a little case of cds in my car and they include:

Metallica, Willie Nelson, NWA, Boston, Guns N Roses, Buddy Rich, Rage against Machine, Meatloaf, Buddy Holly, Eagles, Mc Hammer(actually saw him in concert :) ). Bel Biv DeVoe, AC/DC and many others.

If its good music I like it, except country, that sucks(willie is an exception).

I'm sorry for not satisfying your um...needs?
Lmfao. I've only lived a short 15 years and most of them listening to Britney Spears.
I'm really deprived in music. I've been saying that ever since I picked my favorite bands. I only listen to about five of them at a time, and sadly they're around the same genre so I guess you're right about my post. I just don't watch television or listen to the radio much, plus I talk to people in communities with similar tastes in music. Doesn't mean I can't listen to different styles of music though, I just haven't really heard anything that I ultimately liked...except for like Rihanna and Hannah Montana and Family Force 5 (though they remind me of a watered down, Christian MSI). I need more exposure. |:

Here we go! 'The (almost) complete alphabetical order of Artists I like'. The defining factor is that I like/have atleast ONE FULL ALBUM. I have a bunch of random single MP3's but I don't care to list 'em all. I do have 133 gigs of music afterall...

LIST:

-bunch of stuff-

We have a surprising number of bands in common.

Anyway, here's a sample of the variety of my music taste, leaving out those bands that I only enjoy one or two songs of:

3 Doors Down, Ambeon, Anarchy Club, Anna Nalick, the Beatles, Blackmore's Night, Bond, Buckethead, Celine Dion, Chicago, Collective Soul, Collide, the Corrs, Cradle of Filth, Cranes, Creed, Dir en Grey, Disturbed, Dream, Electric Light Orchestra, Elton John, Enya, Epica, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, Fantomas, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park, Mannheim Steamroller, Marilyn Manson, Matchbox 20, Megadeth, Metallica, Michelle Branch, Mindless Self Indulgence, the Moody Blues, Mr. Bungle, NSync, Nelly, Nine Inch Nails, Nobuo Uematsu, Opeth, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Rascal Flatts, Rush, Sarah McLachlan, Savage Garden, Sheryl Crow, Simon & Garfunkel, Skillet, Skinny Puppy, Snake River Conspiracy, Something Corporate, Stevie Wonder, Suicidal Tendencies, Supertramp, Tangerine Dream, Tool, Train, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Tsunami Bomb, Weird Al Yankovic, and Yasunori Mitsuda.

That enough variety for ya? :D (And yes, I know some of those bands suck...but shh. I have my guilty pleasures just like anyone else. :p)

then why would you post in this thread? if you don't listen to music from before you wher born 15. hell im only 17 and i listen to everthing.

Because I'm bored. lolololololololololol

It's just a forum on the internet.

Congratulations.

Besides, I didn't know it was the name all the bands you know thread.
I thought it was how many different styles of music you listen to...and I put from Every Time I do to Nightmare of You. It's not old, it's contemporary. And I could probably list a lot of bands from the time I started listening to music up until now. Wouldn't make a difference if it were older or newer. Also, I buy my music.* I don't pretend to be cool by saying OMGGZZZ KERTT KOBAIINN WE MISS JOOH, because honestly, I wasn't old enough to understand the movement and his death at that point. The music is awesome, but I'm just trying to be realistic here. Anyway, this argument shouldn't be really taking place.

What do the kids say nowadays?

My bad?

*never said you didn't, just said i did. ;)

Pink Floyd. Mellow but with a hint of citrus.

EDIT: ^^Sorry, I'm a bit dyslexic. I thought the topic was "How music does your broad taste"

everyone here is...wow... very broad, i can honestly say these are the only bands i bother listening to.

Behemoth, The Police, Freedom Call, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Belphegor, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Dimmu Borgir, Van Halen, Korpiklaani, Finntroll (yes, i can understand Finnish, speaking not so much), and some Weird Al, though i'm extremely selective of what songs i listen to by him.
