There's a BIG difference between influence and stealing. These riffs are taken directly from the Swedes, not somewhat like them. If they had original material, they'd be listenable.

I listen to a number of bands, including ones that you would call better. I still like AILD for their riffs. I will admit that without those riffs they would suck (see Chimaira and Norma Jean).

Anyway, my last 2 cents on this... I think it's ultimately pointless to attempt to change what someone likes, because it almost always fails. And if you do want to open them up to something new, there is definitely a wrong way of doing it. An example would be "____ sucks... listen to ___, much better". That already gives the listener a biased point of view, and they will attempt to find ways that it is not better.

Though I think it's perfectly fine if someone wants to voice their dislike of a band/artist, which is where the OP is at fault... don't just explode on everyone with a negative opinion.

I feel like I should chip in, offering a somewhat objective opinion of the drumming and vocals that were praised/bashed earlier.
I can see why someone just getting exposed to "extreme music" would be impressed with their drumming, and especially their double bass. But ultimately, it isn't very special in any regard when compared against some of the standards in the extreme music world. Hell, he isn't even the best drummer on AILD's current tour.
The same applies for their live vocals. I've seen quite a few bands live, including AILD twice (they opened for bands I enjoyed). They aren't bad live, but they aren't anything really special either. They're more authentic than some other vocalists (Anders Friden, Laura Pleasents, Trevor Strnad come to mind), but don't have the same energy, stage presence, and power as some others (Angela Gossow, Russell Allen, Randy Blythe).

My faovurite bits were 'The excellent music is accompanied by lyrics that are just as good: “94 hours of regret for me to realize what I held / Unfading beauty, not just a face / I held its innocence within my heart, now I won’t let go / The torment of your eyes has awakened my soul.” The lyrics are extremely emotional for a song that is so heavy.'

Also, 'For the remainder of the CD, the songs sound very similar to the first three, which is quite common in the metalcore genre.'

I think assuming it's a joke band is a subconscious response to help people avoid coming to terms with the supreme depths of studpidity American kids in the myspace generation are capable of.

In a way it's kind of admirable, they've created something almost Lovecraftian in in incomprehensibility, a lot of death metal bands would kill for that.
