View Full Version : Not trying to step on Harmonix/EA but seems IMPOSSIBLE to get a 100% working set!!

First off let me say that I have been a fan of Harmonix forever and I totally love Rock Band. However as a consumer it is very frustrating to not get equipment that works! So I got Rock band on day 1. Everything was great until my bass pedal cracked on day 2! So I called of to EA and expressed how I felt about giving them a credit card to hold $125.00 when it is not my fault that they sold me faulty equipment. So the guy said that he would send me the pedal and just to send it back in the box and he would not take a credit card number. This was on Tuesday November 22. So I taped it up so I could still play and discovered that my red and yellow pad is not responding on fast rolls or fast 16th notes. Also realizing that the pedal is now cracking in a different spot. So by this time it is Monday after Thanksgiving and I still have no pedal and it still says on UPS.com that payment info has been sent. So I call EA back and ask about the pedal and the they story they gave was I should be getting it by the end of the week as they were behind due to thanksgiving. So then I put in my request for a new drum kit with pedal since it seemed the one I had already ordered was not going to make it. They wanted a credit card again and I expressed the problem I had with that. No matter how you look at it my friends, EA is charging us to replace equipment that they sent out that had problems and they knew it (i will explain that later) So they gave me a manager of EA warranty. He explained that he was sorry but they had people calling in saying they were missing Fenders and Kits and they were not and was getting them for free. He then told me that he would give me a couple of EA games of my choice for free for all the trouble. So although I do not think I should have to give them a credit card number I did and he processed my replacement kit. That was placed on Friday and I received my kit on Wednesday due to the weekend. To this day by the way I still have not received the first pedal I ordered the week of Thanksgiving!! So I unwrapped my new kit to discover there is no pedal! So I called EA back and after a whole lot of problems and finally a transfer to the Warranty Manager again, my pedal was ordered without giving them a credit card again. So I hooked up the new kit and old pedal as I just wanted to see if it was different or the same. The drums looked exactly the same as the old ones I have. I know some people was notiicng some difference but I did not in these. So I start to play BallRoom blitz as it has alot of red drum strikes in it. Low and behold I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!! The red drum does not register when rolling or hit hard. Then I noticed my yellow and blue pad was doing the same thing. So now fed up today (december 6) I went a bought a new Rock Band to see if it would be different and decided I would return the old stuff if it work. Well for one the sticker on the bottoms was newer as it said November 10, 2007. I do not know about the fender as I did not open it since I am having no problem with mine, but let me tell you that the drums was amazing!! The all the pads worked great even the red one!! Just when I was getting excited in my solo drum tour on hard it was time to play Seven by Vagiant, then that is when I noticed!! The kick pedal is now not registering on fast hits! So because of this I do not think Harmonix/EA can come up with a perfect kit!! I will say this setup is better than what I had and I am keeping it. Also I stated that EA knew it was coming, well that is what the manager told me!! He said they knew when they boxed them up they were going to come back because they knew it was not up to par, so they started working on it right away. He also told me that they are on the 4th generation of instruments now! My son really wants me to keep the other Rock Band and if I do that means I have spent the most money on this one video game then I have any other all year. HarmonixSean or John if you are listening, I think something should be done about having to give EA a credit card to hold $125.00 for a month. All this faulty equipment is the only let down for me in this game, and I should not have had to go out and buy a new system because the replacement did not even work right!!! THe new drums look different around the rings, the buttons are tighter and the rubber seems thicker and feel a little different to play. I welcome any comments and thanks for reading my journey!

I, for some weird reason, have experienced no faulty intruments. My fender is fine and works perfectly (I play on expert) and my drums are also working perfectly. I have had friends come over and play and I also play the drums on hard. I guess I should consider myself lucky?

Not to diminish what you've gone through at all but all of my Rockband equipment has worked perfectly straight out of the box. As I peruse these forums, however, it seems I got lucky. I hope they get things straightened out.

I RMA'd my guitar once, and my entire set works flawlessly now.

There was a manufacturing defect with the drums and Guitar on release, but HMX has quashed most of them respectfully... Although the bass pedal might need to be redesigned yet.

LOL - they haven't 'quashed' anything. Funny, isn't it, that the minute people started getting the new magnetic strum version there were threads on how to FIX THE UPSTRUM, complete with pictures showing the equally shoddy work leaving a HUGE gap between the upstrum and connector piece? That doesn't sound quashed to me, it sounds like trading one problem for another.
The guitars still have piss poor tactile response and I haven't met very many people who have what they'd consider 'perfect' (or even 'good') overdrive sensors. Either they're too sensitive or not sensitive enough - this problem continues to persist even with the strum redesign.
..And let's not even get into the fact that some people are getting refurbished guitars that still use the microswitches which will eventually fail just as their original did.

really there is nothing wrong with the micro switch method only the pad behind it isnt close enough or is too small (you be the judge) point is there is a space behind it so when you down strum enough like lets say 2 hours worth that metal contact gets bent out and it makes it impossable for the 2 to touch thats why they are breaking, once you open it up and place tape or something behind it to close up that gap boom working guitar, my friend sold me his strat really cheep plus I gave him my x-plorer opened it up fixed it havent had a problem with it so now I have too working strats.

Haha, so true. Thanks for the post though, that confirmed my suspicions. I have a Rock Band box under my tree that I believe is from the first batch. I'll be returning that and making sure I get a newer one.
