Anyway, if anybody can give me a little more info about how Rock Band judges the singer, I'd really appreciate it. Here are my theories, which require more testing:
- Pitch matters. A lot. The higher the difficulty, the more precise you must hold the pitch.
- Correct lyrics do not matter. At all. You can sing the right words, or you can sing "la la la", or you can sing Weird Al's lyrics. The game cannot detect what words you sing.
- Rhythm is important, but how important? There seems to be some penalty for making a sound when there is a pause in the lyrics, but I can't figure out exactly how it works. My current theory is that if you sing early, there will be a moment where you don't earn points. This is devastating on higher difficulties. That's the only explanation I can come up with for repeatedly failing "Sabotage", which is all rhythm without pitch.
- Consistency becomes more important as the difficulty increases. You get points slower, so you must have the pitch and rhythm correct for a higher percentage of the phrase. For example, if you are absolutely perfect, you can hit an Awesome rating after about 75% of a phrase on Easy. In Hard, you have to be perfect for about 90% of the phrase.
- The system is quirky about what it picks up from the mic. I haven't figured out how to get it to recognize my pitch quickly. It always seems a little behind.
If anybody can add more info or has good reason to disagree with my analysis, please let me know. Also, please post a link if somebody else has details about singing for Rock Band.
Thanks!
