So I'm getting a new bass for my birthday in June and I have been thinking what kind I'm going to get. Right now I have an Epiphone SG bass which I like but I want a new one. I was thinking of getting a Fender P Bass just for the fact that Paul Simonon and Dee Dee Ramone both use Fender Ps and since I want to be in a punk band, this is what I think I should pick. Should I get the Fender P or do you guys think I should get something else?
Thank you

What's your price limit?
A Fender Jazz bass is my personal fave (used by Geddy Lee) but is quite pricey. I also love the iconic Hofner bass, which you can pick up an Icon Series version of on Musician's Friend for under 400 bucks.

The thing about going from an SG bass (even an Epi one) to a fender of any description is that you will notice the difference in sound in a HUGE way. SG basses are super, super growly dirty things. Fenders are generally bright and trebley. It depends on the sound you're going for.
If you're keen to stick with Epiphones and want a more Fendery sound then I'd recommend an Epiphone Ripper:

My price limit is probably 600-700 dollars

i have a love of blue p-basses. i would highly recommend that, although if you can somehow manage to pay a bit more, Ernie Ball Stingrays are the sexiest basses on the planet.

I never even thought of the stingray. Good shout Mudster. Stingrays are good middleground between the epi style and fender style.
I mean if you had a bit more cash I'd suggest going for a gibson ripper or G3 but due to their vintageyness they cost a bit of a fortune. I'm currently doing one up for the wife that I got off ebay for a steal cos it's a bit beat up. Sounds awesome though. It's punchy like a pbass but beefy like a gibson les paul or SG. Best of both worlds!

back in my "playing" days i ALWAYS wanted a stingray. they look and sound perfect. the p-bass is a close second, followed by the jazz bass.
