How the heck do I take the top piece off so I can ship this thing back? It's a little too long for the box if I can't get that plastic piece removed. Is it just brute force or do I have to do something special (like promise it acting work?)
Thanks. :o

Well, since you are sending it back, a hammer might do the trick. :)

Disregarding the babble in the last post, I'm not seeing how to take that top piece off the Fender without breaking the plastic piece. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

You don't. The instructions tell you it'll stick out of the box.
So let it :)

well i figured this little dosey out when i got fed up and returned the **** to the store.
if you take the back of the head off, there is a metal plate towards the neck, take that off,
there is finally on tiny screw under that take that of and hold the neck so you dont rip the
front off and slide the head forward off of the clamp holds in the end of the neck.

The headstock will stick out of the smaller box slightly. You just have to place that smaller box inside the larger box with the remaining packing material to secure it. I've attached a picture showing how it looks when the boxes are all packed. You can see that the headstock protrudes out of the inner box but is secure within the outer box.
I hope that helps.
