So, guys!

While reading some old threads (and Afterstasis AOTW mostly) I thought I'd throw together this random discussion topic for whatever songs I decided I want the forum to listen to and comment about. I know I'm no Afterstasis in library, but well anybody who's seen my library knows it's not so small. So YEAH something. I THINK WE ALL SHOULD TALK ABOUT MUSIC ACCORDING TO GOWIENCZYK. But yeah, here's the song of the moment, from power pop / rock group Sextus. Inspired by Jellyfish and Matthew Sweet from what I hear, anyway. Here's the tune:

'You Might Should Know' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Os6CO7f0xZg) by Sextus

Okay, yeah! What do you think?

:p

Mine too. Though Extreme Aggression is also great.

I never really liked Kreator, haha.

I kinda have to be in a thrash mood for them. I can't just turn them on any time and be into it. But if I'm in the mood for thrash, they're great at filling it. Hell, if you look at my last.fm, you can see that I actually was listening to a couple tracks off of Kill 'Em All before them, and that got me in the mood.

But I like a lot of thrash acts... from Gargoyle to Testament to Artillery to Wardog to Stormtroopers of Death and watnot.

But I like a lot of thrash acts... from Gargoyle to Testament to Artillery to Wardog to Stormtroopers of Death and watnot.

My random opinions on these bands are:

Gargoyle: Yuck yuck yuck
Testament: **** yes.
Artillery: Surprised you know this. I love anything Flemming Rasmussen touches.
Wardog: I have 1 album by them and its power metal
SoD: Crossover, not true thrash

So Ill give you 2 out of 5 ;p

Mystlyfe77

Crossover is good enough, cut the man a break. :P

I finally got around to listening to the song Gowie linked. I really enjoyed the intro, but the vocals were a little too "poppy" for me. It wasn't bad, just not my thing.

Yeah, Wardog was mistagged. Also there's a lot of bands called Gargoyle. We talking about the same one who released their self-titled in '88? and crossover is so much 'tr00' than traditional thrash. Takes more from punk and watnot.

Other thrash cuts I like:

Believer
The Crucified
Meltdown
Metal Church
Municipal Waste
Narcotic Greed
Overkill

OCMS: I like the idea of young people doing traditional music and I like the song okay. The risk you run on this forum of course is somebody will say that the older version of this style is better than the newer but I applaud your choice.

Sextus: I listened to some of their other stuff, too. They are a fair representation of power pop. I actually hear some Cheap Trick in there which is I suppose most power pop bands should show that influence. I like Matthew Sweet better.

I don't think that our overall taste and philosophy is that different despite the fact that most of your responses to my posts are less than kind.

Eh, it depends on the mood I've been in. I really do admit I was a douche back in september and october, but I've tried not to be so direct, blunt and quick to attack peoples opinions. Once you get to know me, my opinions don't seem so annoying though I think.

Is it bad that I really don't remember what I've said to you in the past?

Artillery's great, although you seem to not like some thrash. From what I've seen you don't like Megadeth, Sepultura, and Sodom, why? I'm just curious as to why, especially Sodom.

Sodom and Kreator I found boring and Sepultura's grade of thrash is low and meek imo.

I wasn't looking for an apology. I don't mind the bluntness as long as there is a well thought out opinion behind it. I like a good passionate debate.

There are too many of the "regulars" around here who never really share or defend their point of view. They just type quick insults in abbreviations that us old guys don't understand.

Gowienczyk
05-16-2009, 01:40 PM
Well that's the point of 'screamo' (god I hate that term), throw some harsh or the rare melodic vocals on top of that and you have a song usually. But Majority Rule put out this instrumental track and I think its the best gateway for non-screamo fans. :)

I love the Old Crow Medecine Show song, of course I'm a sucker for banjo and fiddle. :)
I like the Sextus song more than I would have thought, I especially like subtle, kind of noisy additions to the arrangement.
The Majority Rule song is just... wow, I almost kind of want to say perfect, I don't think I've ever heard something that's so soothing yet at the same time kept my interest so piqued throughout.
"Sensitive Artist" is just brilliant, no explanation needed.

I haven't contributed to this thread in awhile, shame on me. Though it's not like anybody even pays attention to it anymore, haha. Here's the current tune I've been digging. It's a nice soul tune, very energetic and lively.
