I was watching a video of And Justice For All being played, and I heard some bass on there... I was pleasantly surprised :D Just wondering, is that really Jason's playing on there or was this added afterwards? For those not familiar with the original album, the bass is practically non-existent.

Haha, I was wondering the same thing. I've been trying to teach my gf how to play bass on RB, she's getting OK at it but she's not great. We're playing on medium and we got to Blackened. I told her not to worry, there's no bass on AJFA anyway, lol. Then she subsequently failed the song.

It's Jason's playing. They've stated numerous times that they pretty much mixed the bass completely out of the album during the original editing process, supposedly because they wanted to try something different and it pretty much mirrored the rhythm guitar part exactly. They've also stated that they would love to re-mix the album much better than it was originally, and the DLC songs from Justice do indeed sound MUCH better than the album.

It's definitely Jason Newkid's playing. I remember hearing some interviews with them about recording with him for the first times. He used a pick (Burton did not) and so his playing was distinctly louder than Burton's had been. I just mean the raw sound of him hitting the strings, not the sound outta the amp. So they ended up having to use one of those plexiglass shields to isolate him from the rest of the room just so his picking sound wouldn't bleed through into other mics in the room. :)
My theory is that everybody in that band has had an album where they were allowed to shine; "their" album, so to speak. This often meant their instrument was most prominent in the final mix, sometimes to the detriment of other instrument tracks.
Kill Em All was Kirk's.
Puppets was Burton's.
Black was Hetfield's.
Justice for All was Ulrich's.

Yeah, I noticed this too and assumed it was really Jason since they used master tracks. It was just turned down so much on the album mix. It's pretty cool to hear Blackened and Justice with the bass line.
I would love for Metallica to re-mix ...And Justice for All for a 20 year anniversary edition....with bass guitar turned up!

That's cool to know... I'm kind of surprised that Metallica allowed them to do it. One on Guitar Hero 3 doesn't have bass in it. I'm looking forward to when One becomes DLC :D

The one thing that so many peeps are missing in this game is the real richness of the tracks.. I have looked into RB dev and its just way way cool.... they hinder over every single note....
so you mentioned Justice for All<<<< lets use that.....
First they have the original master...
So lets say there is at least 6-7 tracks on there..... its a Guess maby there more....
Now they take them and completely seperate them and build there note charts and begin to sync them up.....
So they grab the drums, the bass , the lead and vocals, and do there thing....
then equallize them, and glue them back together......
And in this case, to which on the artist release they washed out jason, now do to big Harm equalizing them out, now you have Justice for All the way it was ment to be heard....
The only time i can think of hearing it just like this, was the least time i saw them live,
Whoot....
