Look I used to be a huge gh fan until rockband came out. Gh:WT was very disappointing so almost instantly I bought rb2. I know it's early but with the huge new modes and features, forwards dlc compatibality, and iron maiden will you buy gh5?

Iron Maiden, hell yeah it's a sure thing buy and those folks comparing it to GHWT you folks are so 1980 it isn't even funny. GH:M's gameplay is perfect and the future titles can only get better GH5 already has awesome bands announced that have never been in other games and there is 5 suprise bands coming and all 5 are major bands so yeah why wouldn't you buy it.

After reading about some of the interesting features such as the ability to play multiple instruments in the same band, and since there is no rock band 3 this year, i probably will pick up a copy of Guitar Hero 5 along with the Beatles: Rockband.

I actually thought GH:M's gameplay was as good as rockband's but it just had too few songs compared to rockband. GH:5 is almost a sure thing for me to buy if the rest of the setlist is half as good as the songs we know so far.

Well, I just rented GH; Metallica, and while they've started to get their **** together, no, I won't. RB has become an investment, and with none of the individual game tracks able to be ripped, and none of the stand alone games supporting DLC except GH Tunes, it's just not as worth it to me. Call it personal preference if you will, but I still find RB's interface cleaner, I hate the squeaky note and fretboard shake in GH, and I've really become accustomed to the cleaner note reading in RB.

That said, I won't be buying every RB game either. Beetles, sure, but Lego? Not for me. Also, with (now) Pearl Jam, it seems they're taking the GH route, and burning the house down grabbing all the money they can before people get sick of the music game genre all together. As long as they keep putting out quality products, I'll probably keep buying them, but I feel like I can be more choosy now since the landscape has widened.

all the bands announced so far sucks and i've never really liked GH's gameplay since GH3, it's been a huge drop in gameplay since GH2 & rock the 80's, at least rock band keeps up with that gameplay

i could care less about these new modes, joining in in the middle of a song and switching instruments? why would you want to do that? playing the whole song is what playing is all about right? and up to 4 people all playing guitar? whats the point of that? sounds stupid to me, the point of being in a band is playing 4 different instruments, not 4 people playing 1, the only way i'd want 4 people playing 1 instrument is a 4 player score duel all for themselves, that'd be interesting

only thing i'm interested in is a full 4 person band vs another full 4 person band, just no idea how'd that work at all

so other than that all these new modes are stupid additions, and all these bands they announced so far besides kings of leon all really suck, i don't really care for an iron maiden master, got my iron maiden covers unless harmonix releases their own iron maiden masters which may not be a possibility anytime soon so i'm not completely bothered

i can easily do without the other bands, boring!

Ditto. If the only "new" feature is to have four of anything or to switch players on the fly, that's not a good sell. And the soundtrack would have to kick some serious ass, but after hearing that 25% of the songs are from the last 18 months, and 50% from this decade, it's gonna be a tough sell for me.

Really? I rented GH:M and it seemed like a cheap ass PS2 port compared to Rock band

Also, for most vocalists, ghwt was a very bad experience and the drums were awful. Guitar and bass were fine.

If the Wii version is crippled like GH:WT, or disemboweled like GH3 (no DLC), it's a no-buy.

If it imports WT on Wii, and supports SDHC, that's almost good enough for me.

If Wii gets full character customization I'm sold.

The bit about the heavily modern (read: possibly whiny indie crap I could probably play on real instruments better than said whiny indie bands) setlist worries me. Indie is the only music worse than Visions.

I honestly voted "need to know more..." though that's leaning more toward highly unlikely anyway. Depends mostly on the setlist ofcourse, but I can't imagine it being something that much more desirebale than RB's DLC or the future it holds. Besides, GH 6 will be out soon enough after that and 5 will be obsolete. Last GH I got was 3 and that was bought used and returned shortly after. That franchise is dead to me as it stands right now. IF they had a clue, they would rework the note mapping, graphics, general UI, end it with 5 and build their DLC library. We know that's not going to happen.

The song list would have to be pretty damned incredible to get me to buy it brand new, and would have to support other stuff like export from the earlier games to get me interested in that franchise again.

After being as thoroughly disappointed as I was with GH:WT, I don't think I'd buy another GH game on the first day of release.

Very early. I'll admit I blurted an "aw ****" when reading the first released tracks though. Seemed to of change their style for the better shown in the two screenshots too. I'll even admit the any kind of instrument combo idea (particularly 4 drummers) sounds purely badass.

But again, too early to tell. All about song choices, something Rock Band and Harmonix already know all about.

I'll have to see more of the setlist to make a final decision if I'm going to buy it or not. Iron Maiden and The Rolling Stones being in the game is a big plus, so it's looking pretty good so far, I'm leaning towards getting it right now but can't say if I will just yet.

I prefer RB, but I still love all the GH games. I'm sure I'll pick it up. Even "disappointments" like GH:WT and Rocks the 80's were perfectly playable for me, and I didn't regret buying those. However, they were a little bit overpriced for what they were worth (though I picked up 80's after the priced dropped to $20), so I may wait for the price to drop, or I may pick up a used copy.
