Band Troubles.

Okay, so recently the lead guitarist/lead singer of my band Tachycardia got a girlfriend [his 1st, if that helps any], no harm in that riiiight? No. Now he misses and cancels practices, so he could hang out with his gf.... now this is extremely annoying, and wasting me and the other band members' time... the only problem is, he's the only singer/guitarist we know so we don't wanna quit/kick him out.... so what should we do? we have tried talking to him, and it just went through one ear and came out of the other... we have no idea what to do...

But he shouldn't be shirking his responsibilities like that for love. I say just tell him, if he doesn't stop, he's getting kicked out. Then he'll either organize his priorities a bit more, or quit... Just hope the former happens.

Maybe he can bring her to practice and try and get her to be a cheerleader or something. So he'd get to practice/do band things, as well as spend time with his gf. You'll get to meet her and maybe figure out what's up.

i seriously doubt they are in love, well at least i doubt she loves him, but yeah... we have threatened to kick him out before, and he just says the same thing every time "Do It." and we never do... i'm just tired of all of his bs, i mean the gf thing isn't the only thing that pisses me and the rest of the band members off, but it's the straw that broke the camel's back. :mad:

lol, that was originally the thread title, Yoko Ono, but anyways, we can try that, though i think it won't go well... and i have met her, we go to the same school... and i was the one to introduce them to each other... now i really regret doing that.

well, no... he's actually not that amazing of a singer, but he's an amazing guitarist, and he knows what genre the band is looking for, it's hard to explain why we don't kick him out...

Chill out, it's no big deal.

From the sounds of it, you're all in high school (maybe even middle school), probably in 9th-10th grade.
No offense, but you're probably not the next Mr. Bungle, you're high school band isn't going to make it big. And even if it was, right now it's not your top priority.
The average HS relationship lasts ~6 weeks. It's not that long. Don't go burning any bridges with friends because they have a girlfriend.

Talk with his girlfriend, get her involved. She can make fliers, posters, and be a street teamer/roadie/groupie.
Let him write a sappy ballad for her, and play it until they break up (also often turns out to be a fan favorite, from my experience).

It's not worth making a big fuss over, trust me.
What IS worth it, is making fun of him for being whipped! :)

It happens, don't kick him out, just tell him he has to schedule things with both. Thats what I do.. its difficult since sometimes it forces myself and my lady to not see each other for 3 days, but we both understand (also since its a half hour drive). Let him have his fun with her for the time and then say "Yo." and continue from there.

heh, a very common cause of bands breaking up. I'd say keep practicing with or without him, don't kick him out unless you find a good replacement. Either his relationship won't last too long and he'll be back to jamming regularly after the emotional scars heal and maybe even some good inspiration for some new songs, or things could go well for them but they will get tired of seeing each other ALL the time so the band will be a good escape for that, or things will just fall apart b/c the band loses faith and patience. Try to come up with some new material, you still got your rythem section, all he'll have to do is come in and add a guitar track and some lyrics.
