View Full Version : *sigh* PS3 Guitar

So many problems for such a wonderful game. Well, I'll give the good news first. I received my guitar from EA the other day from their warrenty and, so far, it is working beautifully. Hopefully it stays that way.
The bad news: I just recieved an email from Red Octane about helping create a patch for the PS3:
"Please tell me that RedOctane is willing to work on a patch to have
the guitar on PS3 work on Rock Band. I think it is rediculous that the
only system that the Les Paul doesn't work on Rock Band is the PS3.
What happened? If there is not going to be a patch, I would like to know
so that I can get a third party (or a Harmonix/MTV/EA) guitar in the
future . . ."
And here is their reply:
"Dear Customer,
Unfortunatley we do not test our products for third party
compatibility. We apologize for your inconvenience.
Thank You
RedOctane Cusotmer Support
service@redoctane.com"
Not quite a true answer to my question about helping to create a patch, but it sounds like they don't care. Makes me hate big businesses. GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT!!!

erm, you have seen all of the threads about the PS3 Controller Compatibility patch haven't you?

I saw the one, that didn't state for certain that it will be the Les Paul guitar (which I hope it is though), and that also HASN'T come out yet, with no set date to do so. Not to mention I still don't really know what the first patch did . . ..
Anyways, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think it is fair to assume that the patch addresses Les Paul compatibility since it is the only 3rd party guitar periferal for the PS3. Whether it ever comes out is another matter.

so instead of logically posting in teh current topic you decided to make your own. Both your questions ahve been answered in that one topic. to sva eyou a bit yes the patch pretty much refers to the les paul since that's the only other ps3 compatible guitar controller and yes the patch is still planned and as far as HMX is concerned it's done. However there have been "complications" which haven't been elaborated on by certian non-HMX parties.

I also contacted Red Octane via email. So far I have not heard back. For those who care, here was my letter...
I have been told that while the company Harmonix has released a patch to enable the Guitar Hero 3 guitar to work with Rockband on the PS3 Activision/Red Octane is blocking Sony from releasing that patch to the consumers. As an enthusiastic customer of yours (owning every guitar hero installment) I would like to know if this is true and if it is, what your company expects for resolution. Thank you.
After reading the response they gave you I don't have much hope for getting any information from them but perhaps if they are contacted by a large number of customers they will release some sort of statement.

Now I didn't know that the Les Paul was the only guitar for the PS3 . . .. I would have thought another company would have come out with one by now. If that is the case, then I would have to assume as well that the patch would be for that guitar. But as we've both mentioned, who knows when/if the patch will ever come.

Why did I start my own? Because I was posting more or less that Red Octane has nothing to do with this, or that they want nothing to do with it, take it as you will.

If that's the reply you're getting from them now, they have definitely changed their tune. Contrast with what they were saying just a week ago:
Hello,
Thank you for writing us.
We are aware of the issue at hand and are looking into it. It was not something purposely designed for, but a situation that has arisen since the release of RockBand. Please have patience.

I remember reading that! Hooray for companies not giving it straight! LOL
Seriously though, I don't have a clue. Maybe I just got a customer service rep that was tired of all the emails? LOL

Activision just sent me this response:
Hello and thank you for contacting Activision Customer Support,
Please describe where you heard information stating that Activision was
blocking the patch for Rock Band. Here in technical support, we have
heard about no such information.
Thank you for contacting Activision Customer Support, if you have any
other questions, we will be happy to address them.
I assume I'm not being straight out lied to by this service tech in which case I asked him who I could contact at Activision who would know one way or the other.

I read something about someone 'blocking' the patch, but I didn't get all the details. WTH is going on there?

SilentSnowman, check out the thread entitled "Activision behind patch delay?" The first post links to the site where the rumor was reported. The rest are people's reactions. I wouldn't recommend reading past the first page for basic time considerations and because there aren't many break-throughs after that.
(EDIT) Oops... MF-PO'd beat me to it.

You may also want to read hmxsean's few replies in that big thread too and interpret for yourself what they may imply.

Thanks for the link. Does sound like a lot of rumor, and still no direct facts.
*sigh* I think all any of us wants is a friggin' patch, but all companies worry about is money. Not saying that that is wrong, but it is annoying.
And I didn't even realize it since I didn't try it, but since the Strat doesn't work on GH, does that mean that GH needs a patch as well? And if so, perhaps that is more what Red Octane was telling me; that they aren't going to test the Strat to make a patch for GH.
Just a thought.
