Knew it was too good to be true.

Just when I was starting to get excited for this one too.

Activision is screwing up once again it seems.

Guitar Hero 5 Excludes Some World Tour DLC

A limited number of World Tour tracks will have to wait outside.

by Daemon Hatfield (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/email.html)

US, May 18, 2009 - Last week Activision (http://uk.games.ign.com/objects/025/025004.html) accidentally let loose a press release with a bunch of details on Guitar Hero 5 (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/objects/143/14303811.html). The release was retracted, but not before we could learn some fun facts (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/983/983286p1.html) about the next iteration of the music game that just won't stop. One of those details is that your previously downloaded tracks from Guitar Hero World Tour will be compatible with part five, and they will be retrofitted with all of five's new features.

Today Activision sent the same press release out again, but we noticed one caveat: a limited number of downloadable songs from Guitar Hero World Tour will not be compatible with Guitar Hero 5 or receive the upgrades. When contacted by IGN, Activision could not clarify exactly which songs will be excluded.

We'll have more on Guitar Hero 5 leading up to E3.

Well it's news when one of Activision's big selling points for the game(and potentially taking consumers away from the RB franchise) was that the GHWT DLC will work with GH5.

Now that seems to come with a caveat.

Meh. The GH series is dead to me. Its not earth shattering news as it does not affect me personally.

Well, Daes, you are right to feel that way after GH4. However, I would say that GH3 had the best setlist (IMO) of any rhythm game.

Someone didn't license right and this was never in the master plan tell rock band announced they would... I'm guessing alot of the artists on GHWT that have dlc and mainly Wings.

nah, GH1 had the best setlist

Symphony of Destruction, Cowboys from Hell, Godzilla, Bark at the Moon, Fat Lip, Spanish Castle Magic, Crossroads.... that cross section alone kills every other rhythm game in existence

GH2 > GH3

I enjoyed both, but the 7th tier of GH3 won it for me.

Before I Forget - Slipknot
3's and 7's - QotSA
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Cult of Personality - Living Colour
Stricken - Disturbed

I love GH, with Stellar, Bark at the Moon, and INFECTED, which is my all time rhythm game favorite, other than the Ten album.

My GH3 served my coffee table as a lovely coaster :)

Right now I equate this to those 3 songs off rock band that didn't transfer (I know it's different cause it's dlc). Have they mentioned if we will be able to export ghwt into 5? If not metallica will be the last gh game I will have bought.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

And Daes, did you buy GH4 after you used GH3 as a coaster?

ThatAuthoringGroup
05-18-2009, 03:27 PM
Yeah if it's just 3 or 4 songs it's not that big a deal.

But if it's 15-20? Or more?

Yeah it says a small percentage, but there are over 100 songs as GHWT DLC.

What constitutes a small percentage? 5%? 10%?

Eh... it was a bit too metal heavy for my tastes. I like metal but it's not even the kind of metal I really listen to. I think it'll always be my least favorite GH game for that reason.

I just loved the setlist. I got 3 out of the 4 tracks I really wanted.

This was my wishlist for GH3:

Even Flow or Alive - Pearl Jam
Lay Down - Priestess
Stricken or Guarded - Disturbed
I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness
(HOW IS THAT NOT IN ANY CONSOLE RHYTHM GAME?)

I do give GH3 credit for one huge thing. I'd never heard of Muse before Knights of Cydonia. Neversoft made me into a Muse fan by putting that into that game. After that song I bought some of Muse's albums. I'd love to see them live but AFAIK they haven't toured the US in a while. :(

New In Flames > All Slipknot

I won't argue with that since Slipknot is ****. Still, I can't express how disappointed I was with Colony since Jester Race and Whoracle were easily amongst my favourite melodeath albums of the 90s.

Jecca - they came to the US about a year ago :/ Just very select locations. closest to me was in Denver at Redrocks which is an 8 hour drive from me.

Well you said new in flames deserves to be bonus. Slipknot is in the main setlist. Therefore you think slipknot is better than in flames! HA! I'd make it my sig but my sig is too epic to change.

Granted a couple of my favorite songs are off Jester Race and Lunar Strain. Colony is my favorite album though, Ordinary Story is my favourite In Flames Song.

There aren't many bands that have been around as long as they have where every single album I like. It's like a story, and each album is a chapter. Each chapter is so very different. I still play Soundtrack and Reroute on repeat so much I annoy my gf with it. I know a lot people got angry that Come Clarity was too soft and radio friendly but like I said, it's an evolution, a story. I'm enjoying it.

However, I would say that GH3 had the best setlist (IMO) of any rhythm game.

What a crock!

The bottom 4 tiers were totally forgettable and the bonus songs were largely inferior to GH1 and 2.

You caveated it with IMO, which I respect, but wow that boggled me to read. It's like the rare person who liked Star Wars Episode 1 better than the original trilogy.

I'll hold fire on judgment until we know how many songs. If it's around the 3 (or 4, if you had the Euro/UK/Aus version) that got lost between RB1 and RB2, then it's not a huge issue. Certainly once it starts getting up to 10 or more, then it becomes an issue.

If ALL the on disc songs transfer... and even more to the point.. there isn't a charge to do it... then it's STILL a better deal.

If ALL the on disc songs transfer... and even more to the point.. there isn't a charge to do it... then it's STILL a better deal.

That logic is still flawed. If you want to make a FAIR comparison, then compare GHWT's DLC transfering to GH5 with RB1's DLC transfering to RB2.

In that case… RB wins. Because, as far as I know, ALL the DLC that Harmonix put out before RB2 came out, was compatible with RB2. ALL, no exceptions. And ALL the DLC that they kept releasing after RB2's launch is still compatible with RB1.

Under that light, RB did it better than GH. Plain and simple.

If you want to talk about the 3 songs that didn't make the cut of the 58 songs to be transferred from RB1 to RB2, then compare that with… errrr… as far as I know, they haven't said anything about transferring GHWT's songs to GH5, right?

So. I WON'T be making ANY judgment in favor or against GH5 in that regard until we get some official word from Neversoft on the matter, confirming how many songs from the DLC won't be playable on GH5 and wether we will be able to export GHWT's songs to GH5 or not.

Anyway, I'm still getting it. Lol. Yeah, I love me some GH. (And Neversoft certainly gave me more than "some", lol).
