The sequel to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is coming out pretty darn soon, Fall 09!


Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, previously known as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion will be the sequel to the 2006 action role-playing video game Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. The game is being developed by Vicarious Visions and will be published by Activision. The game features characters from the Marvel Comics universe and centers around the Marvel's Civil War storyline.



Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 follows the same basic gameplay patterns as its predecessor. The game allows to players to choose four heroes from a roster at any given time to play through the game. Players will also have the ability to level up characters and earn new abilities and powers. Vicarious Visions have made changes in the game and camera controls for greater fluidity during gameplay. The Comic-Con 2008 trailer shows an improvement in the power combo system; instead of merely doing some extra damage, two combined powers will yield a new attack altogether, such as Invisible Woman creating a force field and Iron Man overloading it with energy, effectively creating a bomb, or even the classic fastball special maneuver.



The Alchemy engine has been upgraded in several ways, including Havok physics technology, a new 3D sound system and syncing character's lips to dialogue.

Having read the main story to Civil War recently, I was kind of disappointed with the way it ended, but I did like the concept of choosing a side (and the fact that Iron Man was against Captain America, that's just a good fight!)

I'm very happy to see my all-time favorite Marvel duo of Power Man (Luke Cage) and Iron Fist make an apperance, as well as the Juggernaut! :D

Black Panther was in the first game. Can't remember if he was big in the Civil War story, though

I'm trying to think of more characters that appeared in the book.

banky was right about Speedball; he was at the start of the whole thing.

Punisher and Ms. Marvel were in the main arc. Blade, Black Panther, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight all had their own spinoffs.

I could also see Taskmaster making a villain apperance

I have to say, it's not as great as I expected. It's almost identical to the first game with a few tweaks.

Some things I liked:
-being able to upgrade your characters and moves without pausing the game via a Quick Menu. this is great in multiplayer since you don't have to pause for each person to upgrade
-having health packs to heal anytime really helps
-LUKE CAGE

Some things I disliked:
-it's really, REALLY difficult to tell what's going on when you're playing with friends. the screen is an enormous cluster**** during fights and I often lost my character
-the story isn't based on Civil War at all so far. the events in the Civil War comic aren't even touched on; it's just a generic plot involving Latveria and some random super villains. haven't gotten to the Pro- or Anti-Reg decision yet, but saying this game is based on the events of Civil War is very untrue.
-the voice clips repeat a lot. especially Spider-man's
-not nearly as many characters as the first game, and much fewer attacks per character
-the Fusion moves are neat, but it's difficult to co-ordinate them in multiplayer

So yeah, I don't think I'll be picking this up on the first day as expected. It's not worth 60 bucks to me, when it feels like Ultimate Alliance 1 with slightly sharper graphics and less characters.

On a side note, did anyone else see that the Juggernaut was on the PlayStation store earlier this week for two bucks? Heard that DLC was taken down that day, but so much for the Gamestop exclusive content.

Ah okay, that makes more sense. I never read Secret War (just Secret Wars, silly similar titles), but the game representation seems like a really glib interpretation of whatever happened in the book. There have been like two cutscenes with Nick Fury that haven't explained much, just that we're supposed to attack Latveria, and that's it.

Okay, the game got into the Civil War stuff now. They actually played the Namorita/Nitro fight as a movie. Also, Stan Lee is a senator.

So far, the extra costumes are LAME. No classic Luke Cage, no classic Iron Fist. BOOO

But in the game, you can collect tokens to unlock Phoenix, Hulk and Thor. So Juggernaut is the only one you can't get by actually get (to my knowledge) by just exploring the game. The three I mentioned are all on the character select screen as well (you can see their silouettes), but Juggs is definitely not

Yeah, it was more fun after getting to pick a side. Still overly chaotic in multiplayer, but it's an entertaining beat-em-up

I do hope they release some more characters as DLC though. I can't help but feel disappointed comparing the roster to Ultimate Alliance 1

Way too many glitches in this game, often freezing or just not allowing progress.

We've seen some weird things while playing. Iron Man just froze in place during one mission. Everyone else could move but him, so had to switch him out.

Game got stuck in the room before Bishop and had to load an older save to try it again.

Now, I'm stuck in the room with Black Panther and the game keeps spawning unlimited enemies. There's no objective, and I've been killing enemies for about a half hour.

And that's not even counting the times the game has frozen on us just during a Fusion Move or when a lot of enemies appear on-screen. Sigh

That sucks, man. My friend and I haven't run into any glitches. It's just awful that they changed the setup from last time and only the lead profile has everything saved, whereas, in the first game, everyone's stats were saved in local co-op. Still a good game though. May not be a ton of variety in the fusions but, those are still really cool.

I Used to rock out with Deadpool in M:UA1 back when i got it (for $20).
I do plan to do the same when the price for M:UA2 does goes down just as well. I love the game(s), it's just not all the much worth buying a slightly improved version of the same game, but maybe i'll wait til it's $40 aha.
