View Full Version : Am I playing this thing wrong?

OK, my guitar broke, which apparently EA said would happen, but unlike what seems to be happening to everyone else, my strum bar didn't break, my Whammy bar stopped "bouncing".

Something broke off (could hear it rattling around inside the guitar), and my whammy bar was no more. I figured this had to be a manufacturing defect as I have 2 guitars from first generation Guitar Hero 1, and 2 xbox gibsons, and the whammy bar has been "put through its paces" extensively without fail.

So I got my replacement, and within the first 3 hours of play I notice the following things, in this order:

First, the tilt sensor seems to fire off automatically.
Next, the tilt sensor seems to stop working, or sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't
Finally, snap the whammy bar "breaks", I was actually getting pissed about the tilt sensor, shook the guitar, wasn't even on the whammy bar and it broke again.

I can hear a bigger piece rattling around inside.

Anyone else get this? I don't consider myself a "rough" player, and I have a bunch of other guitars that I've beat to hell a lot more than the Fender, and they all still work great.

Suggestions? Should I just try for another replacement? Is there a limit on how many guitars EA will send out to you?

Hopefully, but still I mean 2 guitars in less than 12 hours. I'm glad I have the Fender to fall back on. I honestly thought the Rock Band guitar would be superior to the Gibson. I think I need to pick up an actual guitar or something.

Could always try not slamming the guitar into the floor when you fail a song

lol yeah, the video on screen is not meant to be mimic'ed!

Just kidding. Send it back. You probably broke the hot glue holding the whammy bar pieces in.

Wait... you can actually "Fail" instead of finish a song? Well who knew.

(Sorry for the obvious response)

Actually I have been rough with my other guitars (no smashing, just violet threats and shaking or neck squeezing), this is the first to have broken two guitars, second time without even having my hands on the whammy. (shake shake, snap) First time I was using my pinky to press down on the whammy and it broke.

Ah well, I ordered one earlier today, if this one fails, the best buy in my area has restocked their rock bands, I'll to a return exchange.

if you open your guitar you will see that there is a spring attached to the wammy and thats what broke off find something to replace it and it should fix it.

good to know it's that easy, but I'm still under warranty, so no point in voiding it. I figured the first time that's what happened, spring came loose, but this time I don't know, the "rattle" inside the fender is much greater, so I "suspect" that something more than a spring broke off. Also if the spring is this easy to break off I hope EAs planning a rev.2 controller soon.

If it breaks on #3, I may just fix it myself, or try. We'll see.
